Miranda Devine: Bravest Woman in America

By John Kass

Wednesday February 26, 2025

The other day I had a long talk with the bravest columnist in America: Miranda Devine

We had a conversation on the latest Chicago Way podcast to mark the first month in office of President Donald Trump. We talked politics, yes, and about the team of terriers and Deep State rat catchers that the president has put together. We talked about journalism.

I leave the link here so you may listen to the Chicago Way. I hope you do. She’s special. And there’s a hint of a third blockbuster book in there, critically important to all Americans of all parties.

Oh, yes, and we talked about dogs.

Since we lost our Zeus the Wonder Dog months ago, I’ve been toying with the idea of getting an English bulldog pup, but my wife Betty says they just lie there and snore and break wind. Sadly, Miranda who loves dogs–agreed with Betty. Ouch.

These days the news generated by the left is all about the panic of the left. We conservatives can take a deep breath as the Trump administration finds billions in government waste of our tax dollars going to subsidize the left-wing screamers and fearful DOGE protesters.

Yet the shrieking of the left-wing continues, the weeping news anchors of MSNBC and the falling ratings of CNN, all of them screaming of chaos because their boss treats them as we’re treated, as employees. And news of the terror that Trump and Elon Musk have inspired in the vast, powerful, and unelected federal bureaucracy by simply asking them to state five things they did at work for the millions of tax dollars paid to them.

They don’t want to show up to work like the rest of us. It’s always about them and their drama, isn’t it?

For all the leftist tears, I wonder if Americans truly comprehend the bravery of Miranda Devine.

She’s the author of important best-selling books, “The Big Guy: How a President and His Son Sold Out America” and “Laptop From Hell: Hunter Biden. Big Tech, and the Dirty Secrets the President Tried to Hide.

Former President Biden tried to hide them. He failed. In the process, he perverted American institutions. He and the Biden Family took in tens of millions of dollars from Ukraine, from Communist China and other nations. She was alone. She was merciless in presenting true facts, and she didn’t back down. This bear wasn’t alone. This one was backed by federal criminal intent, by the FBI and CIA and the weight of the Biden Justice Department that used the law to break Americans and break the Constitution left wing corporate media pretend to care so much about, even as they stomp on it.

Devine stood against monstrous Biden corruption. She stood up for herself and her newspaper, the New York Post, and the American people. And for most of that time, she was alone. That’s what I call bravery.

Put yourself in her place, accusing the crooked Biden Crime Family, sitting out on that limb, alone. With the combined Democrat party, the whisperers and media gossips taking their cues from the same political suits who falsely insisted that Biden was a victim of Russia Disinformation, with Hillary and her witches cackling, passing the all seeing eye between them, cursing Miranda, plotting her doom and recruiting demons.

But Devine stood tall without complaint. Her children and family won’t often hear it, but they should hear her praises sung every day.

Newspaper editors don’t always stand by their columnists, something I unfortunately know to be true. Most of them talk a good game of speaking truth to power, but most of them–given the death of newspapers–don’t dare speak truth to power even in their own leftist newsrooms.  When they’re given the chance they’re often craven and they kneel. Even the editors of the New York Time caved to the Soros mob that runs their newsroom.

But Miranda Devine would not bend the knee.

“We saw a lot of ugly truths about the world that, you know, even the most-hard bitten and cynical among us may not have believed were true,” said Devine on The Chicago Way. “And one of those was how well the media itself– I guess we knew that they would ignore anything that was going to be detrimental to Donald Trump’s opponent and inflate everything that was detrimental to him (Trump), but also that social media was so controlled by the deep state, let’s call it by the FBI, and the CIA.

“We found out later from the Twitter Files when Elon Musk bought it, that it was absolutely rolling with FBI and CIA former agents and analysts and, then of course, you know, because it was such an existential threat to their power if Donald Trump won reelection. They just sort of came out of the woodwork, they came out of the darkness, they showed their claws, they showed their faces. And that was most obvious when the 51 former CIA, mostly CIA and intelligence shows  they wrote that dishonest letter saying the laptop was Russian disinformation when they knew full well it wasn’t and using weasel words. And that was the letter that was actually given the green light by the then sitting CIA director Gina Haspel. And so top to bottom, that was a CIA domestic election interference program.”

Her late father was a newspaperman. Frank Devine was editor at the Chicago Sun Times. He had a great mischievous sense of humor. Years ago, when I was a columnist at “the other paper,” the Sun Times put out an ad, with photos, extolling the awesome reach of their columnists under  the headline “Our Columnists.” The facing page under “Their Columnists” was blank, save for a teeny-tiny headshot of me smaller than half of a postage stamp. Those were the good days. We’d write stories, knock each others’ stories down in print, fight it out, then have a drink or six at the Goat. It was fun. Then the Chicago Democrat left and news unions were bought by Soros and newspapering wasn’t fun anymore.

Miranda and I worked at newspapers as they began dying. The lies told by corporate media finally caught up to them. The White House Correspondent’s Association and the Pulitzer Prize became jokes. But Devine never wanted a Pulitzer.

But she’s proud to have been awarded the anti-Pulitzers–the Bulldog award from the conservative Media Research Center and in 2025 she was awarded the Samizdat prize by the Real Clear Foundation.

Why is the Samizdat Prize important?

Because Samizdat was a form of dissident activity across the old Eastern Bloc when dissidents were imprisoned in the gulag for speaking their minds. People reproduced censored and underground makeshift publications, often by hand, and passed these subversive documents of freedom from reader to reader. The practice of manual reproduction was widespread because printed texts could be traced back to the source. This was a grassroots effort to avoid the censorship of the Soviet Union.

“I’m very honored to have got those and very honored not to have got a Pulitzer,” she told us.

And co-host Jeff Carlin asked about the possibility of another book, to complete her trilogy.

“I am pondering, I mean, I hate to say it, but it’s almost like a trilogy there between ‘Laptop From Hell,’ and ‘The Big Guy,’ and you know, just watching Donald Trump lay waste to the Deep State, I  mean, we haven’t seen how the story comes out, but I think you know the third part of the story, you know, the ‘Vanquishing the Deep State’ I hope now the story turns out because that will make a true horror tale into a happy fairy tale.”

There is a trilogy there: Vanquishing the Deep State.

I’d be happy to read that one. It would make a great movie. I’ll have my brother Nicholas– the former American diplomat and CIA officer–my family’s own honest Deep State expert review it for johnkassnews.com.

And if the melon headed Deep State liar Sen. Adam Schiff writes a blurb for the book cover (from federal prison),  I’d like that even more.

  1. Knock, knock
    Who’s there?
    FBI
    FBI who?
    Dan and Kash
    Can I see your badges?
Badges, we don’t need no stinking badges !!
It’s time to ‘ding dong ditch’ some of the usual suspects. Maybe April Fools Day at 5am.

  2. In grade school during civics we learned of the importance of a free press as a check on our government. Thanks for being one of the brave ones John. And thanks to Miranda.

  3. I bought her book a few months ago, unbelievable how dirty and corrupt these people are. She must’ve needed 3 showers after going through everything on that laptop.
In regards to getting a bulldog, please research the breed thoroughly before getting one, and please consider adopting. We have adopted 2 of them, and they were both a handful to start off, but both of them turned out to be great companions and members of our family.Belching, snoring, drooling, farting is definitely common as is daily face, feet, ears, rear end and wrinkle cleanings. Chicago English Bulldog Rescue is a great place to start.
Remember, you don’t train a bulldog, a bulldog trains you. Good luck, and hopefully Betty will reconsider. We lost our last one 2 years ago, and we will definitely rescue another in the near future.

  4. Read “laptop” before the election. Now want to read her latest. My sister and some co-workers think the sky is falling because of the number of aviation issues and the laying off of federal probationary workers. On the FAA, the DC accident is on them plus pilot error. The rest on the pilots owners operators who did not maintain their aircraft. Prelim reports will be out and tell the tale. A colleague has several friends who were probationary “but doing important work”. Well in business those are the first to go. As long as it’s across the board and not pick and choose. Years ago you could walk into da hall or the county building and see the Times across everyone’s desk till ten or so. Then some real work might be done.
It’s time. Ya gotta break a few eggs to make an omelette and BTW avian flu did not get its solid foothold under DJT but the previous admin.

  5. Outstanding! My favorite columnist writing about my second most favorite columnist. Congrats to Miranda on the Samizdat Prize. She not only exposed censorship in recent years, she demolished it with a wrecking ball and obliterated it into smithereens! Never knew her dad was editor at the The Chicago Cumulus Cloud Times. But I’m sure it was during its time as The Sun Times! Can’t wait to listen to this episode of the Chicago Way. If only there was a way to force the saboteurs into some kind of forced contrition. Oh wait! Her initials are PB and she works at 400 6th Street NW in the capital! 🙏🇺🇸💪

  6. Bravo to Miranda Devine for her guts and determination.
I read Laptop from Hell a year or so ago and was blown away.

Please consider adopting an older mutt.
Even a few years old, there are so many out there.
Our Family has adopted several older mutts and they are the best.
Everyone wants a puppy but grown up dogs have lots of love and loyalty to give.

Your next dog is out there waiting to choose you, go find him or her!

  7. Exposing not only the corrupt but inept Biden is worthy of some kind of major award. Easily one of the top 5 worse presidents in our country’s history.

As for the dog, instead of paying huge $$$ for a pure-bred pup, do a rescue. Nearly 6 years ago, I rescued a dog that had been dumped at the Highland, IN town pound. Paid, $0, simply signed a form that he’d be neutered. Through DNA Testing discovered he’s an Australian Cattle Dog mix. The most loyal, intelligent, athletic dog I’ve ever seen!

  8. She’s a very sweet, genuine and committed lady. Not to be taken for granted. Compare Ms Devine to the consumate coastal Schiff.

How anyone in their right mind could be a Democrat right now.

  9. John,…yes, a rescue pup for sure. My sister-in-law has had two Labbies that are a mix of some sort. Wonderful pups,…that have brought much laughter and merriment to the house. And are totally devoted.

  10. Γιάννη,
Miranda is a true journalist, seeking truth in a sea of lies and innuendo. Yes, she has her own take on “the news of the day,” but her opinions don’t cloud the actual storyline. She’s forthright in her approach, and unapologetic. A real keeper! Thanks for the fresh air, and μπράβο to Miranda!

  11. I will repeat my comment from your prior pod cast with Miranda, I could listen all day to Miranda’s lovely, lilted voice. However, but more important she was a brave succinic voice from the get-go out of the NY Post, as well as Howie Carr out of Boston, Mark Steyn out of Canada/Britain, Victor Davis Hanson out of America, and yours truly John Kass out of Chicagoland—all voices from the wilderness in the last few years.

  12. Miranda Devine is one of the heroes of the dismal Biden years. Her two books were Jeddi light sabers deployed against the Biden crime family, the Obama syndicate, and the Deep State. I’ll eagerly look forward to the third book in the trilogy, though sadly Biden’s final act of venomous betrayal of our country, his flood of preemptive pardons, included one for Adam Schiff, so unless Schiff perjures himself going forward, he’ll never see the inside of a federal prison.

  13. I have devoured both of Miranda’s books. I feel so much more informed by NOT getting my news from the Chicago dailies. I will say though that I do take a quick daily perusal through the Sun-Times and the other paper (though I don’t pay for them) just to see which one is telling the biggest whopping lies of the day.

When you have finished reading both “Laptop from Hell” and “The Big Guy”, I highly recommend you pick up a copy of “All the President’s Money”, the new book by James Comer. You’ll learn even more about not only the incredible graft, corruption, dishonesty and moral bankruptcy of the Biden Crime Family, but also about how the Democrats and the Deep State have so efficiently clogged the wheels of justice in promoting their vision of “the threat to democracy”. Can’t wait for a follow-up from Pam Bondi.

  14. Yes, John Kass, Miranda Devine has never bent her knee and I hope that her children will be able to read all the rhetorical medals she gets and deserves so much. God bless her and her family.
I always was able to read more of her on X as well as you John, but my laptop died and took my X profile with passwords to that dark place that I will never see again.
God bless you John Kass…..be sure to give us an insight as to when you go fishing again…

  15. I’m a little late with my comments but your site does not fully load under Firefox and I have to go to Microsoft. I have read both of Ms. Devine’s books – the second one is better. The first one felt scattered. There are a few other books that I’ve read and found very disconcerting. I recommend taking a look at the two books by Bill Browder. The first one Red Notice deals with sales of Russian assets and Putin’s response to American investment. It’s a true story and the numbers are huge but his second book Freezing Order continues the story and there the numbers are 10X -100X larger. It shows just how evil Putin is and his methods of revenge.
Lastly, I have had labs all my life but I now have a West Highland Terrier aka a Westie. It is a 24lb energetic white dog with a personality and everybody loves them. I recommend taking a look at a Westie. I tske mine to the beach at Pebble Beach and we (both of us) look for golf balls.

  16. John, I’m sorry I just got to this. I live in New York and believe Miranda Divine is New York’s John Kass. I love you both and appreciate both your journalistic talents. That’s why I subscribe to John Kass News!
