Miranda Devine: Bravest Woman in America

The other day I had a long talk with the bravest columnist in America: Miranda Devine

We had a conversation on the latest Chicago Way podcast to mark the first month in office of President Donald Trump. We talked politics, yes, and about the team of terriers and Deep State rat catchers that the president has put together. We talked about journalism.

I leave the link here so you may listen to the Chicago Way. I hope you do. She’s special. And there’s a hint of a third blockbuster book in there, critically important to all Americans of all parties.

Oh, yes, and we talked about dogs.

Since we lost our Zeus the Wonder Dog months ago, I’ve been toying with the idea of getting an English bulldog pup, but my wife Betty says they just lie there and snore and break wind. Sadly, Miranda who loves dogs–agreed with Betty. Ouch.

These days the news generated by the left is all about the panic of the left. We conservatives can take a deep breath as the Trump administration finds billions in government waste of our tax dollars going to subsidize the left-wing screamers and fearful DOGE protesters.

Yet the shrieking of the left-wing continues, the weeping news anchors of MSNBC and the falling ratings of CNN, all of them screaming of chaos because their boss treats them as we’re treated, as employees. And news of the terror that Trump and Elon Musk have inspired in the vast, powerful, and unelected federal bureaucracy by simply asking them to state five things they did at work for the millions of tax dollars paid to them.

They don’t want to show up to work like the rest of us. It’s always about them and their drama, isn’t it?

For all the leftist tears, I wonder if Americans truly comprehend the bravery of Miranda Devine.

She’s the author of important best-selling books, “The Big Guy: How a President and His Son Sold Out America” and “Laptop From Hell: Hunter Biden. Big Tech, and the Dirty Secrets the President Tried to Hide.

Former President Biden tried to hide them. He failed. In the process, he perverted American institutions. He and the Biden Family took in tens of millions of dollars from Ukraine, from Communist China and other nations. She was alone. She was merciless in presenting true facts, and she didn’t back down. This bear wasn’t alone. This one was backed by federal criminal intent, by the FBI and CIA and the weight of the Biden Justice Department that used the law to break Americans and break the Constitution left wing corporate media pretend to care so much about, even as they stomp on it.

Devine stood against monstrous Biden corruption. She stood up for herself and her newspaper, the New York Post, and the American people. And for most of that time, she was alone. That’s what I call bravery.

Put yourself in her place, accusing the crooked Biden Crime Family, sitting out on that limb, alone. With the combined Democrat party, the whisperers and media gossips taking their cues from the same political suits who falsely insisted that Biden was a victim of Russia Disinformation, with Hillary and her witches cackling, passing the all seeing eye between them, cursing Miranda, plotting her doom and recruiting demons.

But Devine stood tall without complaint. Her children and family won’t often hear it, but they should hear her praises sung every day.

Newspaper editors don’t always stand by their columnists, something I unfortunately know to be true. Most of them talk a good game of speaking truth to power, but most of them–given the death of newspapers–don’t dare speak truth to power even in their own leftist newsrooms.  When they’re given the chance they’re often craven and they kneel. Even the editors of the New York Time caved to the Soros mob that runs their newsroom.

But Miranda Devine would not bend the knee.

“We saw a lot of ugly truths about the world that, you know, even the most-hard bitten and cynical among us may not have believed were true,” said Devine on The Chicago Way. “And one of those was how well the media itself– I guess we knew that they would ignore anything that was going to be detrimental to Donald Trump’s opponent and inflate everything that was detrimental to him (Trump), but also that social media was so controlled by the deep state, let’s call it by the FBI, and the CIA.

“We found out later from the Twitter Files when Elon Musk bought it, that it was absolutely rolling with FBI and CIA former agents and analysts and, then of course, you know, because it was such an existential threat to their power if Donald Trump won reelection. They just sort of came out of the woodwork, they came out of the darkness, they showed their claws, they showed their faces. And that was most obvious when the 51 former CIA, mostly CIA and intelligence shows  they wrote that dishonest letter saying the laptop was Russian disinformation when they knew full well it wasn’t and using weasel words. And that was the letter that was actually given the green light by the then sitting CIA director Gina Haspel. And so top to bottom, that was a CIA domestic election interference program.”

Her late father was a newspaperman. Frank Devine was editor at the Chicago Sun Times. He had a great mischievous sense of humor. Years ago, when I was a columnist at “the other paper,” the Sun Times put out an ad, with photos, extolling the awesome reach of their columnists under  the headline “Our Columnists.” The facing page under “Their Columnists” was blank, save for a teeny-tiny headshot of me smaller than half of a postage stamp. Those were the good days. We’d write stories, knock each others’ stories down in print, fight it out, then have a drink or six at the Goat. It was fun. Then the Chicago Democrat left and news unions were bought by Soros and newspapering wasn’t fun anymore.

Miranda and I worked at newspapers as they began dying. The lies told by corporate media finally caught up to them. The White House Correspondent’s Association and the Pulitzer Prize became jokes. But Devine never wanted a Pulitzer.

But she’s proud to have been awarded the anti-Pulitzers–the Bulldog award from the conservative Media Research Center and in 2025 she was awarded the Samizdat prize by the Real Clear Foundation.

Why is the Samizdat Prize important?

Because Samizdat was a form of dissident activity across the old Eastern Bloc when dissidents were imprisoned in the gulag for speaking their minds. People reproduced censored and underground makeshift publications, often by hand, and passed these subversive documents of freedom from reader to reader. The practice of manual reproduction was widespread because printed texts could be traced back to the source. This was a grassroots effort to avoid the censorship of the Soviet Union.

“I’m very honored to have got those and very honored not to have got a Pulitzer,” she told us.

And co-host Jeff Carlin asked about the possibility of another book, to complete her trilogy.

“I am pondering, I mean, I hate to say it, but it’s almost like a trilogy there between ‘Laptop From Hell,’ and ‘The Big Guy,’ and you know, just watching Donald Trump lay waste to the Deep State, I  mean, we haven’t seen how the story comes out, but I think you know the third part of the story, you know, the ‘Vanquishing the Deep State’ I hope now the story turns out because that will make a true horror tale into a happy fairy tale.”

There is a trilogy there: Vanquishing the Deep State.

I’d be happy to read that one. It would make a great movie. I’ll have my brother Nicholas– the former American diplomat and CIA officer–my family’s own honest Deep State expert review it for johnkassnews.com.

And if the melon headed Deep State liar Sen. Adam Schiff writes a blurb for the book cover (from federal prison),  I’d like that even more.
