Miranda Devine and The Big Guy
By John Kass
Sunday October 6, 2024
I want you to get yourself a book. It is an important, special book written for those of you who love your country, pay your taxes and play by the rules. It has a great title, written by a fearless reporter, Miranda Devine of the New York Post:
“The Big Guy: How a President and His Son Sold Out America”
It’s all about the cover-up, backed up by hard facts and on-the-record testimony about the liars who abused you, me, our nation, all of us. It has been written cleanly, clearly. So if you care about America, you’ll rush and order this great book now.
And while you’re ordering, how about I tell you a story?
A few years ago after she came out with her first book on Joe Biden’s oily corruption, “Laptop From Hell” (another great read) I was at “the paper.” And sometimes I’d hear the wailing and sighs of agony when I’d tell my editors I planned on writing a column in support of Miranda Devine of The New York Post.
You ever take children to the dentist for a tooth-pull? It sounded like that.
Their sighs, tiny screams and complaints meant I was over the target. No doubt journalistic curiosity had been squeezed out of them by the Shameless 51, the liars of the so-called “Intelligence Community” who’d been wrangled to protect the corrupt China Joe Biden and elect him president over the objections of people with common sense.
The best editors, the most respected, such as John McCormick and Bruce Dold were already gone. And my dear friend Kristen McQueary was either gone or on the way out the door. She, like Devine was a tough reporter who deserved more than she received from the Trib. One thing she’d never do–she’d never whine about a good column coming her way, one that readers would read because it had all the elements of a good story: The use of raw political power and money and sex.
But this new breed of woke editors terrified of angering the rabid left wing (I took to thinking of them as news suppressors) weren’t enthused by Miranda Devine’s great stories.
The once-great paper was repeating a pattern of self-destruction becoming woke, before it went broke.
I was about to go, too, but I didn’t know it yet then.
Miranda Devine was and is the lead columnist at the New York Post, a tabloid that understood a good story. She loves tabloids. She’s unpretentious and curious. She’s a tough, seasoned pro who came from a newspaper family. I knew of her father, the late Frank Devine when he was editor of the Chicago Sun Times.
Miranda had written that famous book, “The Laptop from Hell” that establishment media was desperate to suppress before the 2020 election.
I loved “Laptop From Hell.” Here’s my review and interview with Devine from that amazing important book.
And I love her new book too, “The Big Guy: How a President and His Son Sold Out America”
The other day I invited her on the Chicago Way podcast to talk about “The Big Guy.” I’m including the link here, in this column, if you’d like to listen to her. I really hope you do. In that most recent interview Devine talked about the extreme snobbishness of the American legacy media that so often prides itself publicly as the guardians of decency and democracy, but in reality they pound the life out of the Democratic process.
I wanted to know how she’s feeling these days after taking on the Deep State and the Biden regime in two riveting books. Because it isn’t easy. Many of you who read my column know about my brother Nick, who has spent his life studying the Deep State. In Nick’s life and Miranda’s life, they can’t afford mistakes when it comes to confronting the Deep State. It takes serious nerve and careful thought.
And remember, if Big Tech and the Deep State and the corrupt corporate media of which I was once a part had not suppressed the Hunter Biden laptop story, the corrupt Biden would NOT have been elected in 2020. But they did. Hence all that whining whenever I’d want to write a column in support of Miranda.
Polls showed that eight out of 10 Americans think that the Biden laptop cover-up changed the election. The Washington Post, the newspaper that unctuously cries “Democracy Dies in Darkness”– yet also took the lead in suppressing Miranda Devine’s work– issued perhaps the most laughable headline of the decade:
“No, limiting the Hunter Biden laptop story didn’t cost Trump the election.”
Really? You fools. That’s a lie. The corporate media can’t resist beclowning itself even as they whimper that Americans no longer read them.
Devine said that she feels relief at finishing the book.
“I guess relief is the word because now, just by being able to get the information for the record, for history.
“I guess there might be incuriosity and deliberate contempt for this story in the mainstream media, for nefarious political reasons, because it is an absolute bull tearer of a story, and unbelievable good story. It has every element that you would want.
“The fact that you know, The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Chicago Tribune and National Public Radio, just completely ignored it and pretended that it didn’t exist and that it was fake. It just goes to show how corrupt they are, um I’m just glad it’s out and you know, all I’ve really done in this book is about the cover up of the Biden corruption and which I think is the worst story.
“And it only became evident to me after we published the first stories from The New York Post and got immediately censored by Big Tech and then down the line and found out that it really wasn’t Twitter and Facebook that decided they didn’t like our story. They’d been sort of groomed by the FBI in meetings beforehand, who had prebunked our story told Facebook and Twitter to expect a Russian hack and leak dump of information, likely in October, likely about Hunter Biden.
“So that when they saw our story on October 14th, 2020, three weeks before the election, they recognized it for the aligned disinformation the FBI had warned them about. I kinda understand although they were too willing to do it, but I understand why they censored us. But they did censor us successfully and then you know they had the dirty 51 letter from the 51 former intelligence officials saying it was Russian disinformation.”
This was a masterful intelligence operation, used by the Deep State in support of Joe Biden, to keep his politics alive. It was evil. It hurt our country and installed a corrupt soft-headed fool into the White House.
“It was only months or years later that I discovered that this wasn’t just retired CIA, mostly I think 42 of the 51 were CIA officials,” said Devine. “They are not just retired intelligence officials as August they are, like we had 5 former CIA directors or acting directors. No. this letter (from the shameless 51) was cleared at the very top of the CIA by Gina Haspel, Donald Trump’s CIA director. It was such a political letter that the people in the agency that are supposed to clear these kind of publications they thought well this is above our pay grade so they sent it up the line and it was walked across the corridor by the Chief operating officer, he’s testified to this to Gina Haspel’s office and she gave it the green light. So, this was a CIA operation, a domestic election interference operation.”
Yes, it was a domestic election interference operation.
And Miranda Devine’s book, “The Big Guy” reveals it to the American people, if they’re interested that Big Tech, corrupt corporate media, the Democrat Party and the Obama regime worked together to elect Joe Biden even though he was lost in a growing fog of senility.
To learn about it, all they have to do is turn the page.
But those who corrupted our American intelligence services to serve the corrupt Biden family don’t want you to read the book.
Those who enriched the Bidens at your expense as the Deep State protected the Bidens, as all the dirty foreign cash rolled in from China, Ukraine, and elsewhere, hope you don’t read it. But I do.
Get “The Big Guy.” Don’t just keep it on a shelf for show. You must read it.
As we approach the November elections, your nation needs you to read it, so that you remain clear-eyed about what’s out there waiting for us. And who waits in the shadows.
This is not a game. It is our survival.

John, this is hard to hear. Really hard to hear, I just want to put my fingers in my ears and say repeatedly, “ I hear Nothing”with a German accent , just like Sargent Schultz on Hogan Heroes. Keep up the good work, maybe I should slip a copy of Devine’s book in my local suburban Free Library!
John, I sincerely hope you follow through on this. Those of us on the Right should engage in a bit of subversion too (although we’ll never be as good at it, since it doesn’t come naturally).
I fervently pray for Trump and victory in November. The deep state has no conscience. They care little for America or it’s people.
Trump appointee’s keep stabbing him in the back. Chris Wray, Gina Haspel, Mad dog and Bolton are typical.
I hope that his transition team does a better job of screening the new appointments in the next Trump administration.
Above all, he needs to find an Attorney General with guts. The people who foisted Biden on us through deception and outright lies need to be held accountable.
The last 31/2 years have been a terrible time for the country and it’s people.
Inflation, Afghanistan, the border invasion and rampant crime seem to be the norm.
The media protects the malfeasance of the administration and we suffer.
God please save us. Vote Trump.
Those who choose not to read pieces by folks like John Kass and Miranda Devine choose to play into the hands of the Deep State and corporate/corrupt media.

The American media pooped the bed, like the grifting BS-er-in-Chief that they have long covered for. Americans do not trust the media, much less respect their opinions. People trust Miranda Devine and John Kass.
I’d like to hear how the old colleagues at the Trib are panicking over this. That p@#%y Eric Zorn must be wetting his panties.
Great article. Miranda Devine has what we used to call grit. Her eyes are wide open. She knew the shit storm that would come after she released the truth. Good for her for doing so anyway.
I’ll be buying the book and reading it.
I can’t go back to not seeing, not knowing what they have done.
Now I live with the fear of what next. Power once gained nefariously will not be given up easily.
Thanks again.
Back when we lived in the NW burbs and got home delivery of “the paper” your column was the first thing I looked for. But when the price nearly tripled and got so left leaning we stopped it. I now “skim” thru the New York Post only because of Miranda Divine. Sadly of late, it had become a gossip rag of sorts. At least it still had some good editorials but not like the good reportage of the past. I look forward to your emails and podcasts. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for this John. And, I appreciate the way you discussed “curiosity “ on the Miranda podcast.
All I can say is WOW!!
I’m happy someone had the Stones to write this book.
Keep it going John!
I think Americans are owed the remedy of seeing consequences meted out for the actions of the Dirty 51 and the FBI pre-bunk artists.
So many of the Deep State abuses of the past 3 1/2 years are unprosecuted, and given the 2020 bulk mail ballot fraud, a deep despairing cynicism has enveloped many of us I fear.
JK. Excellent column as always, great pod cast. Just downloaded Miranda s new book.
How soon we forget her first book, that exposed the length the government went too, to influence the last presidential election. Russian collusion hoax, the once great FBI is nothing more than a bunch of wayward chicago precinct captains from the old days, who would do anything to ensure the election for the Democratic Party. Same can be said from the CIA employees who lied to the American people.
In my lifetime I respected the institutions of the FBI and the CIA. I believed the falsehood that those men and women in the shadows made it possible for the American way of life we all loved.
I lost all faith in the FBI after 9/11. (May those lost souls nationwide rest in peace.)
Then I lost my trust of the CIA after Joe Wilson and Valeri Plame, were thrown under the bus, the CIA didn’t give a “hoot” about protecting her operatives.
I can’t trust either political party, as an old man now I remember delivering my news papers as a kid, and reading each Chicago paper for the truth and facts. The Trib leaned republican, the Times democratic, Daily News democrat.
One thing though is we got the truth, journalistic integrity all the bases were covered. The facts were reported.
How times have changed, journalism has gone from looking out for the little guy, to trying to influence our lives by manipulating the news coverage we receive from the political elite..Pravda lives on.
We need more JKs, and Miranda Devines.
.
Thank you, John, for amplifying Miranda Divine’s outstanding reportage! The nation owes both of you a debt of gratitude.
Yianni,
You and Miranda are my heroes! Should be everyones’ heroes for not getting bulldozed by the infamous “powers that be” that are seeking to muzzle any truths about the corrupt Bidens. I was aghast the other day when Hillary made a blatant statement about how social media companies need to “moderate” content lest they lose control! She actually said it openly to CNN host Smerconish! Tells you all what’s in store for us if Kackling Kamala and Wily Walz win! They’re not hiding their intentions any longer. It’s all about controlling the narrative, dispelling any scintilla of truth. We must all remain vigil and alert, and get the vote out before we succomb to the socilistas of the once great country known as Amerika!
It always amazes me how people can’t see the truth through all of the B.S. I have loved Miranda Devine’s work for quite a few years and of course followed you, Mr. Kass, for much longer. Being a criminal investigator, I always worried about your safety after following your column but didn’t realize that the real danger was coming from “inside the house”. Thank you so much for continuing to offer your journalism to those who need to hear it. I will definitely be buying the book and thank you for being a voice for Miranda Devine.
Checked out public libraries for the availability of Miranda Devine’s new book. Currently not available. The Laptop from Hell was not available in Chicago or Minneapolis libraries but was available in Tennessee. Wonder if her new one will only be available in select states as well.
You’re correct that Laptop from Hell was not available at CPL (big surprise!), but Skokie Public Library carried 1 copy.
It’s incomprehensible how corrupt our government & media are. Sad to say, if anyone has seen the show “24”, it’s probably the only way it would end. But these criminals are like cockroaches & would somehow survive to maintain the status quo.
I was told Hunter’s laptop was fake. I was told the Covid shot would protect me. I was told masks would protect me. I was told that Covid was an accident, and not funded by Fauci and made in a lab. I was told that the border was secure.
I was told Chicago isn’t run by the Democratic Party anymore because the city has non-partisan elections.
Thanks John.
It is nearly 2025 and, with all the advances in technology and avenues for communication, it is incredible that we cannot get honest and objective news. Who today simply provides a clear picture of what is actually going on?
I have read a lot about the rescue efforts (or the lack thereof) for hurricane Helene and I don’t know what or who to believe. It used to be that we went to the legacy media, i.e., “the paper,” for the truth. But everyone, including the legacy media, recognizes how partisan it is now to the Democrats and the Left. The legacy media only has itself to blame for its lack of trust and continuing decline. They are the OG – the Original Misinformers.
Good riddance to the Trib and the hacks who still work there.
John, I probably heard this suggestion elsewhere, but here goes. A possible reason that the MSM press has changed to its present state is because journalism has changed from a blue-collar to a white-collar profession. Especially since Watergate and the mix of Woodward and Bernstein, reporting has ceased to be an apprentice program and morphed into a college degree program. Since academia and professors have moved decidedly left, it’s no wonder that these journalism graduates have moved left and made it impossible for you to remain at ‘the paper’ .
And they’re not finished yet. Media complicity continues with them refusing to push for ANY type of interview from Harris. The media continues to allow fawning, scripted bits of word salad from Harris conducted by their pandering “journalists”. Just like Biden hiding four years ago not one of them will call
her out for her avoiding them. “Journalists” indeed. The Deep State is beyond desperate now with two failed assassination attempts. Something big is in the machinations. They’re not finished yet…
Correct – they are not done yet
…praying…
The “51” used plausible denial since they never said that they had evidence that the NY Post story regarding Hunter’s laptop was in fact a Russian operation. In fact they were clear that they in fact did not have the evidence proving it to be so. As they wrote, the NY Post story regarding Hunter’s laptop “… has all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation. We want to emphasize that we do not know if the emails, provided to the New York Post by President Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, are genuine or not and that we do not have evidence of Russian involvement …” And clearly it would not be contradictory to say that a narrative could have all the “classic earmarks of a Russian information operation” and in fact NOT be a Russian information operation. But the “51” likely also knew that the water carriers for Biden in the legacy press – the NY Times, WaPo, NPR – would draw the obvious but not necessarily logical conclusion and run with it: that the “51” claimed the Hunter laptop story WAS a Russian operation. So yes. The “51” are sleazier and more cynical than even John speculates, and the legacy press is a total disgrace and embarrassment … beyond salvaging in my view.
I’m shocked, shocked that politicians are crooked!
Now we’re are my winnings?
Yeah, well then “round up the usual suspects.” And that apparently is what Devine did. And unless you are presently in politics (which I doubt) or an “impartial, non-partisan” (LOL) public servant, there will be NO winnings for you.
Miranda Devine must be a one tough cookie. How to catch vermin, bait the trap with the truth.
God Bless Miranda Devine.
My favorite column line, – “Their sighs, tiny screams and complaints meant I was over the target”.
