After 9-0 Supreme Beatdown of the Left, Cardiac Patient in Need of a Good Maduro Cigar

By John Kass

March 6, 2024

Somewhere there’s a heart surgeon out there wise and gracious enough to write me a prescription for a fine maduro cigar. A massive Churchill. And a gentleman’s leather chair.

Also at least three fingers of tasty Carpathian Single Malt Whisky. Or perhaps, four. Yeah, four sounds right.

What better way to savor the anguished screams of the left after they suffer the Supreme Court’s unanimous 9-0 smackdown?

The Democrat leftists (are there any other kind?) tried to pervert the rule of law once again, by using the law to knock President Donald Trump off the ballot. They insisted he was an insurrectionist even though President Joe Biden’s weaponized Department of Justice did not charge him with insurrection, nor did they convict him.

For all their theatrics and lectures about defending democracy, it is the Democrats who have been the true insurrectionists, destroying Rome in order to save it from the people.

And though their media allies kept chirping fairy tales at Americans, telling them the Supreme Court would do what leftist law professors demanded, reality intervened and bit them where it always bites. Hard. And their dreams of unfairly keeping Trump off the ballot were crushed and the whimpers began.

Did I forget to mention it was unanimous?

The echoes of their failure are sweet, as Trump rides the crest of an amazing political comeback, while churning through Super Tuesday toward the Republican presidential nomination. Only two years or so ago, Trump was written off as politically dead. Now Trump is in command, at least at present. And for the first time in memory, the Republicans are not on defense.

And President Joe Biden? Even Democrats are sick of President Joe Biden now, no matter what  he insists on coughing up on America during his Thursday State of the Union speech. He’ll slime Republicans, of course, and try to blame them for his failures at the border, but America has already seen the other side of his face.

The nation has pronounced him responsible for the immigration disaster at the border. Chinese fentanyl keeps coming across Biden’s wide open border, killing young Americans by 100,000 a year. And some 10 million of Biden’s illegals have crossed, swamping the blue cities that once proclaimed themselves “sanctuaries.”

Biden’s presidency seems to be exclusively about the Democrat Party’s hunger for new voters and continuing his failed immigration policy, which is about replacing Americans by perpetuating the illegal migrant invasion and overwhelming the blue Democrat cities.

“We have a different country than we had even two years ago,” said Trump just before his crushing victory on Super Tuesday. “A migrant invasion of our country, destruction of our country. You look at what’s happened to New York and Chicago, you look at what’s happened to Los Angeles. We have a much different country in many ways, but also from the voting standpoint, people who were moderately happy three years ago are down. Right now, I think the Democrats have themselves a big problem.”

Trump is quite pleased with the Supreme Court now, but of course that is likely to change.

But Trump is right. The Democrats have themselves a big problem. And Biden’s poll numbers are disastrous.

So if I had that fine cigar, and understanding that revenge is a dish best served cold, I’d enjoy a few puffs and savor the obituary written brilliantly for Declassified by Julie Kelly in “Death of an Insurrection.

The only thing better would be to have Never-Trumpers Lynne Cheney and Joe Scarborough read it out loud, with Keith Olbermann on the oboe, as Kelly’s prose burns their tongues:

“RIP, Insurrection. A young political life with such promise cut short after suffering a series of debilitating injuries over the past three years. Not even the hubris of Liz Cheney, faux outrage of Jamie Raskin, fake tears of Michael Fanone and Don Lemon, podium-pounding screeds of Joe Biden, or nonstop life-sustaining efforts by the entirety of the national news media could save it.”

Perfect.

Ahhh.

And that fine Carpathian Whisky, like a morning on a wild river in the Transylvanian alps. Nothing like trout for breakfast.

Perhaps someday. For now though, I’m content with the whimpering of Harvard Lefty Laurence Tribe and the other insurrectionists caught by the Supreme Court with their pants down.

”It’s staggering that not one of the 9 justices said a word to support Trump’s claims that trying to overturn Biden’s 2020 election wasn’t an “insurrection,” that anyway he didn’t “engage” in it, and that as president he was exempt from Sec 3’s disqualification from future office!”

It wasn’t an insurrection Larry.

Trump was not charged with insurrection. He was not tried or convicted for insurrection.

But you know what is (or was) insurrection?

The Democrat sponsored Black Lives Matter Riots, also known as the George Floyd Riots.

Blue cities were burned. Business destroyed. Democrat media insisted they were “mostly peaceful” but they weren’t remotely peaceful.

Democrats pushed and promoted the BLM riots to energize their vote against Republicans. Dozens of people were killed. Billions of dollars were lost. I walked through Chicago–downtown and on the South Side–to witness the devastation.

Businesses were destroyed. Leftist anarchists and other Jacobins who pushed the mobs to violence were not convicted and imprisoned in large numbers. Leading Democrats were engaged in fundraisers to defray bail costs for the BLM rioters. The criminal George Floyd was canonized by the left. But the Biden Justice Department and local Democrat prosecutors did not demand convictions in revenge for their ruined cities.

While the BLM George Floyd riots destroyed the cities, the looting and violence in urban America has been ignored by Democrats and the media.

January 6 is the Democrat Holy Day and through it all, the sacraments used on Americans was based in fear.

  1. Always on target with the TRUTH. The Problem is that Americans have been lied to over and over again they do not know what the TRUTH IS. Michelle is waiting in the wings I am sure of that.
The TRUTH WILL SET US FREE. So proud to read your columns. Keep up the good work.

    1. As usual, excellent, well thought out piece. The one unknown issue, is will the child like toddler intellect for NYC mouth off one too many times for the average voter to put up with him. I’ve voted in elections since 1968, and, where most have been the lesser of two evils, now we have to really over the top, crappy, old men who can’t get out of their own way.

  2. While I agree with the ruling, this upcoming election is still damned if I do (Trump), damned if I don’t (Biden). A pathetic choice of geriatric, narcissistic candidates that both should have been put out to pasture long ago. When does this country get to move on?

    1. This country will move on when the Democrats-every last single one of them-are arrested, charged, tried and convicted for crimes perpetrated upon their political opposition.
Just like Israel cannot end their war with Hamas until the threat has been 100% eliminated; we, the law-abiding conservative citizens cannot think about “bi-partisanship” until the Democrats gets a dose of their own medicine.
Is it revenge or is it US defending ourselves from the grotesquely twisted world view held by the Marxists in the other party?
Personally, I don’t want cooler heads to prevail until certain heads have rolled.
Illinois has become the California of the Midwest with the 2nd most corrupt government in the NATION. We should start our work there, if voters are truly fed up with radical, progressive crap.

        1. 1. Stock market, DJ, hit A RECORD 39,000. UNDER BIDEN!!. ASK WALL STREET WHO THEY LIKE.
          2. if you buy on sale, groceries are not that bad but we spoiled prima donna’s buy without looking at prices. We want what we want and now. Hey, we’re a capitalist economy, dog eat dog, remember. Thats what makes America great! I screw you and you try to screw me. The American Way! If you dont like the grocery price buy something less. You are spoiled.Whadda ya bitching about. You want a Commie govt that Helen worries about. Fixed prices like in Russki and Chinky virus land.
As Cher said to Niccholas Cage in their movie: SNAP OUTTA OF IT.

          1. The stock market value is only something like 65 to 70 percent of the value it was just a few years ago. It is really not at 39,000, but more like 25,000. Inflation has caused it to be that high. It will continue to be high as long as Biden and his money printing press continues to roll at its inflationary high amounts of dollars.

I was in Florida for the last couple weeks. When I left, gas was at about $3.25. Today, it is pushing $4.00. Unlike food, cheaper cuts of meats, you cannot buy cheaper cuts of gas. Your comment about buying food on sale is ridiculous. Basic food stuffs are up some 25% from the time Trump was in office. No one wants fixed prices, they want prices as they were when Trump was President. Biden is a disaster and most of the intelligent country knows it.

          2. You want to tout the stock market?
That’s funny, because when Trump was pointing to the many records that Wall Street was setting when he was President, Democrats were telling us that the stock market is not a reflection of our economy.
Remember that? Probably not. Democrats have selective memory.
And what exactly does inflation have to do with capitalism?
The feds continue to print money, devaluing the dollar even more, the federal government continues to spend money that we don’t have on our “new neighbors” and Ukraine, Biden tightens federal regulations on everything from gasoline to wetlands/farmland and emissions, causing gasoline, diesel and propane to go higher and to top it off, the most “pro-union” President in history is getting them historic contracts causing product prices to increase and NOW, you have college athletes wanting you unionize. Your President/your Party is responsible for NINE million illegal aliens entering this country in the last three years, policing re-imagining by your radical progressives has everyone feeling very unsafe, our colleges have become cauldrons of Jewish hate, Big Tech has liberal propaganda on blast, while censoring conservative talk into silence and on and on. The day of reckoning will be in November. The country’s course correction will be spectacular.

        2. If you haven’t noticed, when Democrats aren’t busy lying about conservative Republicans and fluffing up charges that will land them in jail (J6 political prisoners, they are rigging the system so that their money laundering will look legitimate.
I have lived in Illinois my entire life. I have seen former governors Dan Walker, George Ryan and Rod Blagojevich go to prison. I have seen countless state legislators go to jail. I have watched Illinois become a UniParty state, married to corruption. And yes; the majority have been Democrats. I see nothing “dangerous” about pointing that out.
I am 71 years old. How dangerous can I be. Seriously.

          1. Art, I agree with what you have said 100%…Geraldine considers herself one of the Democrats and doesn’t want to be “dealt with.” It’s obvious to me that cradle Democrats need to take a good look in the mirror. This isn’t their old Democratic Party anymore.

          2. This is for Harry. Cheaper cuts of beef? You mean like choice steaks? Jewel had sales on T bone steak, NY strips ranging from $5.99/lb to $7.99/lb. 4 ounce filets from $3.99 to $4.99. Aldi’s prices are cheap. Here in Waukegen Lewis foods are dirt cheap. Get off your flabby arse and look for the ads.
You offer no proof on the over valuation of themarket current valuation.
I bought a new Samsung tv for $229.
Costco gas can be as much as a dollar less than what’s in the neighborhood. And BTW trying walking a little more instead of driving and maybe you’d get that waist down under 40 inches.
John likes to shop at John’s Prime meats on Addison street
in Chgo. Who the hell can pay his prices. Apparently, John got a bundle of bucks from woke CT.

    2. I agree Todd. Our choices this November are pathetic to say the least. We vote for the lesser of 2 evils, in this case, Trump. Time for 3rd party options. Our political systems are corrupted to the core.

      1. I resent the constant criticisms of those of us who identify as Democrats. I’m law-abiding, moderate, well-educated and up to date on issues. Is there any other kind? is over the line. Trump may become president again and play dictator.I won’t be happy, I admit.

        1. Dictator? Like the fascist traitor we currently have? Using every agency at hid disposal to persecute his opponent?
You’re a fool. People like you have put this country in the place it is now, not Trump.
Did you miss the column above? The damn democrats just had their moronic attempts to deny a large part of this country’s citizens their right to vote their choice.
I hope you saved your “hate has no home here” sign. You’ll soon feel the need to resurrect your virtue-signaling phoniness.

          1. I agree. Ms. Conrad does not seem to recognize a hallmark of dictatorship: denial of the ballot. Ballot access is foundational to our Republic. Much blood has been spilled – both literally and figuratively – over ballot access. What the Dems did – or attempted to do – trying to deny access to the lead opposition candidate is truly disgusting. Of course for folks who think as Ms Conrad does, its “ballot access of me, but not for thee.” Disgraceful.

    3. Todd- Don’t worry about the personalities. Politicians are all jackasses. We’re not voting for someone who’ll babysit out children, we’re voting for someone who will fight the deep state and get this country back on its feet. Trump may be a distasteful individual, but his policies are what we need.

      1. Exactly right, George. The progressive left has no moral compass. Our country cannot survive four more years of this debacle.

Just remember that whatever the Democrats accuse Trump and the Republicans of, they are doing themselves.

Geraldine, you seem like a nice lady; just a little misguided and blinded by your past allegiances to the party. There is no “moderate” in the Democratic Party.

  3. I beckoned the toothsome tap-maid at St. Joseph’s Young Men Society and called for a malted grain beverage from America’s oldest brewery(Yuengling American lager – quaffed by no less a patriot than Andy Jackson, the man on $20) and was presented with a cascading foam hugged flagon for my celebratory Au Bon Pere! 9-0! Let’s have more . . . great rulings Modus omnibus in rebus,

      1. Actually John. I’ll fill you in. You don’t need a prescription for your cigar or whiskey. You can get both over-the-counter. Just go to the cigar store and buy your cigar, then head over to Binny’s for your whiskey. No script needed. It’s called agency John – don’t off load it to the docs.

  4. John,

Excellent column! But the election is like 8 months away, dang it. Hold the fine madero and single malt for a while. This year in politics is going to need your clear head and all your whits at a high level, we are counting on you John!

  5. A fine celebration, JK, and I’d cover your Carpathian whiskey were it not for, you know, the price.

I specially enjoyed your proposing that mournful recitation of Julie Kelly’s fine insurrection obit “. . . with Keith Olbermann on the oboe.” Let’s add Hillary Clinton on a solemn snare drum and President Magoo playing “Taps” on kazoo. Leftist theatrics are so inspiring.

    1. David, thanks for noticing the lonely oboe. with leftist politicians, everything is so performative. we’ll see Magoo Thursday night on national television

  6. “which is about replacing Americans by perpetuating the illegal migrant invasion and overwhelming the blue Democrat cities”.

I don’t think invasion of blue Democrat cities was part of the script. The illegals were supposed to stay in the red states and tip the vote to the blue side.

The red states spoiled that plan by making it against the law to hire illegal aliens. So they ended up wanting to go north where it wasn’t against the law to work. Consequently the whole gambit of letting them in comes to nothing.

  7. Spot on as always John. I only have to argue 1 point it is not about new voters for the democrats. It is about control of the House. 10 million additional people being shipped to strong blue states equals 10 seats in the House for those states, after the next census. More then enough for democrats to take and hold control. The power brokers behind the curtains pulling the stings also know if they can take control of the 3 biggest cities in almost every state they can control at the state level also. The people that want to take control of this country are in it for the long run and we may have already lost.

  8. Great job as always, Mr. Kass, and your Greek ancestors are proud of you.

My biggest takeaway is “destroying Rome in order to save it from the people”. It is the opinion of many career politicians that we, the American people, are too stupid to decide how things should be done. And this applies to politicians from both of the major parties. The big difference, in my opinion, is the fact that only one of those parties has the (sic) “media” lapdogs on their side. Anyone stupid enough to buy what these (sic) “media” clowns are selling is a true Chumbolone and shouldn’t be allowed to vote anyway.

      1. Ah, Kass…. That is one of my all time favorite books, and I commend your excellent taste.

Warning: Do not lend your How the Irish Saved Civilization out to anyone. I made that mistake once, never saw that copy of the book again.

I picked up an extra copy to keep on hand, just in case I am ever seized by a moment of generosity and loan or give one away.

  9. On point John!

I do fear that since SCOTUS is the one (and rather large!!) entity that is halting some of the nonsense, the Dimms will ramp up attacks on the Justices; I fear actual violence as the Swamp will stop at nothing to maintain power.

  10. As always, no one can combine dry wit, facts, and Liberal outrage like you. There is the question of presidential immunity on the horizon. I don’t see another 9-0 vote on that. Trump may not be doing a happy dance then.

    1. Erin I agree. I don’t see it either. Presidential immunity is on the horizon. thanks. I love your writings. I thought I was a subscriber to your substack. i’ll call you

  11. “…but the nation has seen the other side of his face.” The amazing words of a seasoned warrior. We are witnessing the greatest comeback of all time – political or otherwise! It’s a great time to be alive. Every day brings a new chapter that is impossible to put down. I am on record stating that if Jihad Joe remains at the top of the ticket the die is cast in this election and President Trump could carry 38 states. Even if they pull a cutesy move (Bongino term) at their convention, the die may still be cast. All this and a Garvey-Schiff matchup in CA. Hmmm…I’ll go out on another limb and predict Trump rallies, not only in the South Bronx or Madison Square Garden, but also in Merced or San Bernadino or maybe even in Marin County!

  12. Thank you John for this great perspective. I would love to have the 3 fingers of whisky with you sometime and yeah, I’d enjoy the cigar too.

    Keep them coming John.

  13. As always well written. The kangaroo courts at state level that have charged Trump are laughable. That’s all the left has. Biden to any person with a functioning brain cell is a feeble physical and mental old man. We have China economically eating our lunch (soon dinner) and militarily expanding their hold on the South China Sea, the Dems trying to please voters with a middle eastern heritage especially in swing Michigan by pushing Israel to back off of Hamas. Aid to those in the battle zone is being stopped by Hamas. 3 C130’s?. When the Berlin airlift occurred there was a skytrain of c46’s and 47’s. (As a matter of fact I believe the 47’s were nicknamed “Skytrain”. Yes the lift capacity per aircraft is much greater now but why not fifty at a time?
I hope the US Jewish population (usually a sure bet for Dems) realize they have been sold out and start supporting more traditional lawmakers. Do you think for a minute if we had not overwhelmed the Nazis in WWII surrounding Berlin we would be speaking English or that if the suicidal fanaticism of the Japanese hadn’t been shocked by that atomic bomb an invasion woujd have cost a million casualties. Hamas needs to be eliminated. Simple. Putin and Ukraine is another misadventure. He knows how spineless Biden is. Trump may be a crude rude jerk but he has cojonies (sp?) Rules for thee but not for me is the Dem playbook.
Keep up the fine insights John.

    1. As a Jew myself, I had to laugh at your hope about US Jews somehow politically realigning … leaving the Democratic Party. Ain’t gonna happen. The fact is US Jews are politically stupid, self loathing, guilt ridden, and naive … they will never ever leave the Democratic Party. In fact some are so ashamed of themselves and so guilt ridden, that they are defacto apologists for Hamas (check out Jewish Voices for Peace for instance).

  14. Why isn’t anyone trying to remove Biden from the ballot for selling the country to the Chinese? I would think that fits the definition of treason under the Constitution. Or does the Constitution only apply when Democrats want to hide behind it?

  15. I like the damned if you do anything comment. I can’t vote for either.

Question: how many people still consider themselves Republicans after January 6th? Winning a majority of a smaller number = a smaller number.

    1. I’ve thought that Jan. 6 was a set up from the moment I heard about it. Sadly, the press, nor the DOJ will never truly investigate it. Why was there an inoperable pipe bomb at the DNC that day, and why did Kamala go there? There are a few brave reporters looking into this. It has all been hidden from the public. WHY? Think Plan B.

  16. Very witty and unfortunately, true analysis John. Anyone with half a brain or a level of intelligence should agree with you. But sadly, too many are brainwashed – the “orange man” will destroy our country they say – mindless dribble. Yes, we will vote for Trump – but we wish that there was a 3rd political party, a 3rd option.

  17. Everything in the column is accurate. If Joe Biden is reelected, the Democratic Left will destroy the American Republic with authoritarian rule like a python strangling it.
And if Donald Trump is elected, he’ll destroy the American Republic and replace it with one-person authoritarian rule, himself, like a tiger killing its prey.
What’s the vote then? Choosing whether to be killed by a tiger or a python?

    1. Not quite the same. Do you really believe that Donald Trump will be able to usurp Congress, and the Supreme Court to turn America in a dictatorship? Plus, he’ll be 78 years old – not exactly the prerequisite for a long running dictatorship. On the other side, once the Left gets control of all three branches of government, they’ll make sure they institute a system whereby one party -theirs, has full control and will be nearly impossible to beat at the ballot box.

      1. Excellent — a sharp scalpel there, Mr. Allen! But keep in mind that people who support leftist authoritarianism are generally too dumb to recognize sarcasm.

    2. I get it. But if the Dems sweep the Presidency, House and Senate think about this: they will be in a position to control the destiny of this country for the next 50 years at least by 1. packing the SCOTUS 2. making DC and PR into states. By the way that would supercharge the administrative state to no end … with effectively NO checks on unrestrained bureaucratic power. Think about that. As other have pointed out, Trump is 78. He can only be a one term POTUS. In fact – as much as I hate to admit it – Trump has preserved our American Republic via his past SCOTUS appointments. Think of where we would be now of it was not for his Court appointments. Your fear is misplaced.

  18. Yianni,
Surely you can’t be referring to those BLM demonstrations as riots! Mayor Lori insisted they were “spirited but peaceful!” HAH! Give her another mountza for that description. As the city burned, no one was arrested, and we are now left with a ghost town, formerly known as the Mag Mile! And yet, Gov Maximus continues to thwart any business development across the state with his taxing policies, and socialist agenda – only to be out done by mayor Brandon Panix – who is currently trying to figure out how to garner more fed funds to house illegals, rather than un-declare Chicago as a sanctuary city. I firmly believe that he plans to turn them all into anothe bloc of democratic voters, as does Joe mumbles, if he isn’t voted out of office sooner than later. What worries the most now, is that dems in DC are already conspiring to craft legislation that would over ride the Trump SCOTUS decision. After all, Joe mumbles told the supremes to go pound sand, and he’s giving away billions of college loan “forgiveness” to those chumbolones who over paid for a worthless degree! Lawlessness in America has become a way of life, as it was in the old west. And like the old west. it seems we all have to carry our own weapons to keep us safe, thanks to defunding thc cops, and Soros bought DAs and SAs turning criminals lose with gov Maximus’ no cash bail! But not to worry, those community social workers responding to 9-1-1 calls have it well in hand….DUH!

  19. John, I would be willing to write you that prescription, but it would not pass the smell test at any pharmacy….if it would pass, and your prescription is authorized, that would mean I would have to say more Hail Marys for you!! I know I can handle the additional prayers, but I would not be dancing in the street if a negative outcome happened.
Enjoy what you can while you can is an old adage I have heard before. So, you can use that as a prescription with the telephone close at hand to dial 911…
God bless you John Kass, ALWAYS. There is not one soul reading your column that would not hesitate to purchase that cigar and whiskey for you. Putting them in a locked case would probably be best….
God bless and keep you and yours well.
    Tom

  20. Clear-eyed analytic prose, John.
9-0 decision! Could the message have been any clearer?
States cannot arbitrarily remove federal candidates from a voting ballot.
We all agree that “insurrection” is a pretty serious charge and one that could prevent a candidate from seeking federal office.
It is also clear that the definition of “insurrection” has come into question. Much like we can’t agree on what is racist, when Life begins or even what is a woman; Americans have differing opinions on what constitutes an insurrection.
What we know is that President Trump gave a speech, encouraged followers to peacefully protest and to exercise 1st amendment rights to free speech. He has never been charged or convicted of insurrection. Yet, anyone opposed to Trump describe the January 6th demonstration as an insurrection and the obedient liberal talking heads perpetuates the myth that an insurrection occurred.
But, BLM riots were mostly peaceful.
Currently, I’m reading “They’re Lying” by Liz Collins and the more I read, the angrier I get. Leaders who knew the truth about George Floyd sat on it, let a false narrative spiral into riots and destroyed the lives of cops and Minneapolans alike.
I am tired of the lies.
And I want revenge. Let God forgive them because I can’t.
Right now, this country needs a leader that you either love or you hate. We need someone with the will of a General George Patton, the diplomacy of a Winston Churchill, the energy of a Bobby Knight and just a splash of sewer rat all rolled into one.
We know who that is. You know who that is. Yeah; he’s crass, crude and rude. He has the personality of a porcupine (rather prickly). Everyone agrees that his policies WORKED. Everyone agrees that they want his policies back. They just don’t want HIM. They can’t have it both ways.
The right man at the right time just landed smoking hot from Super Tuesday. Nikki Haley has dropped out. Mitch McConnell just endorsed Donald Trump. The healing in the Republican Party has begun. RINOS beware. MAGA is a movement; a very strong movement that will steamroll the Democrats in the 2024 election.

  21. In a binary political system which we mostly have, you do not have to love the candidate you vote for, just dislike the other candidate more.

Sure there is serious deep support for Trump, but that support will not be enough for Trump to win.

I pray those who dislike Trump can see through the smog and hold their noses and vote for Trump as the alternative will be far worse for Trump supporters and for the Biden supporters too. Many Biden supporters know Biden has not and cannot do the job, but they hate Trump so much they are blinded and some refuse to see even if they are not blinded. These Democrats need to suck it up and put their distain for Trump aside and realize disliking Trump does not mean Biden is the answer.
Voting is still secret ballot. It’s OK. No one but you will know..

Rationale democrats will need to come around for Trump to win.

  22. The MSM is doing its best today to try to re-spin the Supreme Court decision as a 5-4 split (6-3 might be a little more justifiable) based on the subtext of the two ‘concurrences’. Rotsa Ruck guys!

In the long run, both political parties, the nation and world would have been far better off if last year both Trump and Biden had opted out of the 2024 election. But of course neither will do so, they both take stubbornness to a level seldom seen outside of five year olds. (And I speak from first-hand experience, when I was five, I walked out of the house and down the highway, over what I no longer remember, but they found me about five miles outside of our small NW Illinois village.)

The short run would have been more chaotic, because neither party has any really superior candidates for President to offer, though the skeptic in me would counter by saying that’s been true since the post-Reagan 1980’s. Although I supported Nikki Haley, is she really the best the Republicans have to offer? Or DeSantis? And are the Democratic Socialist governors of California, Illinois and Michigan who ANYBODY wants leading this nation in the only direction they know, to out-and-out communism? As to Michelle O, gimme a break!

  23. Right on all points John, the Supreme Court obviously got it right. That didn’t change minds of many voters or pundits on the hysterical left. Here in Illinois it is so pathetically “blue” that we have very little options for candidates with integrity and dignity, and I’m not just talking local politicians but federal congressional stiffs too. Illinois may be too far gone. As is true in Illinois, it is also true nationally that one shouldn’t underestimate the apathy and stupidity of the American electorate. The tribes are just digging in deeper. Don’t take anything for granted.

  24. Apparently, governor Abbott needs to bus some illegals to Burlington, Vermont so they can experience the full benefits of a Sanctuary City.
We should begin listing the Executive Orders our next president will sign

    1. John
Alcohol and smoking the 2 number #1 causes of almost all diseases. They beat obesity, lack of exercise, genetics, etc. Using those 2 makes one very stupid and ultimately DEAD. There is no benefit to alcohol including wine. Eat the damn grapes instead qand forget the fermentation!
Give them up John, givem up. Or your a dead man.

  25. Couple of questions, and I’m just asking, not baiting. Do you think that the Supreme Court should rule in favor of Trump on the immunity issue, and do you think the RNC should pay all of Trump’s legal bills and judgements? Thank you.

    1. It’s qualified immunity, like Police have and Fire fighters have. A fire fighter will break into your home and cause untold damage, a cop may wrestle you to the ground, only to find out you were the wrong target when the dust settles. Covidians killed people during the lockdowns, sent kids to abusive homes and to suicide, they aren’t charged for 3rd degree murder. Trump doesn’t have the right to commit crime

  26. And, to those who would take Biden over Bad Orange Man, put 10 seconds of thought into that choice. It probably shouldn’t even take that long for you to realize that you’re going to get Kamala.

    1. U mean HEELS UP HARRIS? OH NO, NO, NO, LAWDY, LAWDY NOT THAT. MICHELE WOULD BE BETTER. MAYBE DEMS WILL GET THE MAYOR OF DOLTON, ILL TO RUN 4 POTUS?!

  27. Democrats are in a frenzie, running out of options. I just hope they don’t repeat Nov 1963. Biden will have an “event” and will have to be replaced in July, the DNC will erupt and “rogue” delegates will put Newsom in as the candidate. They will take the hit for bouncing Kamala.

  28. As usual, excellent analysis. However, I get a feeling you think a red wave occurring, again. WRONG, like before. TRUMP WILL NOT WIN. Politics is now run in this country by WOMEN, especially but not exclusively 6Ws: wealthy, weighty, wacky, woke, white, women. Just look at Illinois. It’s mostly women in Dem politics. Powerful Dem women and mostly queer. Despite gov Jelly Belly Pricksters money if he didn’t give in to those female Dem pols he’d be fixing those toilets of his all by himself. No more Daleys, Burke, Madigan, Dunnes, Kellys, Sheahans, Blago and his FIL, Pucinskis, Rostankowskis, Bilandics and on and on. Dems are run by clowns like Sen. Ducktape, dope head lt gov., Jan Schakowsky, Michele, Taxwinkle, Creepy, ugly States Attorney, etc. Dem women run politics and they will weaponize The Roe overturn, and AL mental midgets state supreme court justices who called zygotes/gametes/sperm ‘LITTLE PEOPLE’, WT? and don’t be surprised if a mass shooting occurs strategically just before the election.
It’s over. The Dems can elect a bottle of olives by running on those 2 issues.

  29. Hilarious to read “people” here repeating the bullshit the media parrot about Trump. “He’ll become a dictator.” “He’s a threat to our democracy”. Blah, blah blah..it’s almost like they’re chatbots repeating the lies the left keep pushing. The lie is more important than the truth, isn’t it? These imbeciles never remind you that Trump did none of these things the first time he was elected. Yes, let’s keep repeating the lies. Two of the most important jobs the president has are to defend the country and run the economy. The dead soldiers in Afghanistan and the Middle East show that he has been MEDIOCRE at best with this job. The economy? The pain you feel in your wallet is demonstrative of Bidens horrible performance here also. My wallet files a police report for battery everytime I get groceries. That is unless you’re a chatbot like the usual suspects on this forum. None of the ‘bots refer to Bidens piss poor results here. It must not be in their programming. At least I hope whoever sends them here pays for a subscription to post their nonsensical ramblings. John needs to get paid….

  31. I know, groceries are always on sale. Yes we can all stand to lose some weight so skipping a meal now and then is healthy in the longer run. Summer’s here so there will soon be a virtual explosion of tasty bugs available to help make a healthy stew. And they’re free too! There are many edible plants in our vast urban landscapes to make a refreshing salad also. Just watch out for the mushrooms! Yes Mr. Rudd we certainly have been spoiled by being raised in the Land of Plenty. We now live in the Land of Maybe Come Back Next Week thanks to The Greatest President in American History Joe Bidens excellent economic policies. Since one third of the world can be considered “Third World” its about time America catches up to the rest of the world. Lets Make America MEDIOCRE Again!

    1. Unless you’re one of the rare disciplined shoppers, the sale items are there to encourage you to buy other stuff, too.

We recently started a ketogenic diet. Meat allowed, even butter and cream, but bread and pasta are out. That’s probably had more impact on our grocery bill than anything in recent memory. (And I’ve been baking our own bread for 20 years, so no wheat flour is a real downer.)

I find it rather funny that John’s former newspaper employer ran a story a while back on edible plants in the urban landscape. What they didn’t point out was that in many parks, it’s illegal to pick them. Also, unless you know for sure that they haven’t been treated with insecticides and herbicides, you might be ingesting dangerous chemicals.

  32. There was a Facebook page which organized bus trips from Evanston to Kenosha to loot stores during the Jacob Blake riots. It was out in the open.

These things don’t happen by magic. There are organized Alinskyite criminals who do this awful stuff. Would take a few hours for law enforcement to track them down, but they are too busy with their political witch-hunts to do anything about this craziness.

  33. It will be another 9-0 for the simple reason that the Supreme Court will make life easy for itself and the republic having zero evidence that Trump committed an insurrection neither having been charged or convicted of such. Nobody on the Court will make a fool of him(her) self to dare argue that they know an insurrection when they see one.
