THE MURDER OF SHERIDAN GORMAN AND THE STIFLING OF CHICAGO

The worst sound in the world comes from the throat of a father or mother of a child killed by an illegal protected by powerful politicians as the news media begins to edge away from them, ignoring their child and their pain.

It is the sound of anguish. You can hear it in Chicago.

I’ve been hearing it far too much lately, that desperate sound in the throat of a grieving parent. Their sorrow overwhelms them. The fact that their sorrow is ignored by journalism as journalism serves political lords overwhelms them. Their throats begin to clench and what remains is a climbing ladder of anguish and a high-pitch screeching for desperate breath.

You may think of the many angel moms and dads out in America mourning those kids, from Kate Steinle, shot in the back in 2015 while  holding her father’s hand as they walked on a pier in San Francisco. “Dad, help me,” she said as she collapsed, “Help me.”

Laken Riley was a Georgia nursing student who also was senselessly killed in February 2024. And Katie Abraham from Illinois, slaughtered and forgotten as she sat quietly in a car waiting at a red light in Urbana with friends, as a car driven by a drunken illegal hurtled down upon them at 75 miles per hour. And so many, many others killed by migrants here illegally in the United States, all of the illegal migrants ushered into the United States by Democrats and former President Joseph Biden.

Billons of  dollars were spent on the illegal migrants by American taxpayers whose children were killed by those tax subsidized illegals, some by gunfire, some by a crushing blow with a rock, some by the impact of a vehicle driven by the illegal while drunk. In each case there was silence from Democrats, and silence from the news media lest mention of the dead anger the partisan leftist subscribers.

In the midst of that crushing silence, anguished parents want their murdered children to have mattered, but the media and leftist political indifference angers them and their throats begin to close up as they raise their voices. Their screeching digs deeply into anyone who hears them and are possessed of human souls.

And now Sheridan Gorman, the 18-year-old freshman at Loyola University who was recently out with friends at the lake shore hoping to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights when illegal Jose Medina-Medina—who had already been arrested for another crime–fired shots at them with a gun.

Gorman was hit in the back as she tried to run away. She died. Chicago Police detectives used facial recognition technology to track her killer down.

 

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker (D) placed the blame for the murder of Sheridan Gorman not on the Biden Democrats protecting illegal migrants–or lavishing billions upon them as they wreak havoc in the cities–but on  President Trump.

The governor said part of the blame for the murder belongs to the Trump administration because they have not stuck to their “edict” of targeting the “worst of the worst” when it comes to illegal migrants.

“This has been a terrible tragedy, and I know that the Gorman family has suffered mightily,” he said. “I agree, there have been real failures. Those failures, of course, extend beyond the borders of Illinois. It’s their national failures, a failure to have comprehensive immigration reform, a failure of the president to follow his own edict to go after the worst of the worst.”
That’s about the most disgraceful thing I’ve heard come out of J.B.’s mouth.
A terrible tragedy like JB Pritzker playing Illinois for fools and getting elected? I kept waiting for editorials condemning Pritzker, but I didn’t see them. That tells you what you need to know about Chicago media. It’s dead. A feast for crows.
Since Sheridan Gorman’s murder, Chicago news media, particularly the newspapers, have predictably shamed themselves. The Chicago Sun Times put out its infamous “wrong place, wrong time headline, disgracing itself, yes, but maintaining fealty with the Pritzker Democrats who insisted on downplaying the horrific murder by blaming the victim.  Northside Chicago  Alderwoman Maria Hadden stuck her head deeply into the shame trough by repeating the “wrong place, wrong time” idiocy that was cleared by Sun Times editors. Her office has been flooded with threats that she finds to be “explicit and disturbing.”

I have no doubt that Gov. Pritzker patted her on the head and handed her a low-carb treat. Not to be outdone in the groveling to Pritzker, the Tribune’s own pro George Soros newsroom union boss wrote a news story with this headline: “Sheridan Gorman’s family blast officials for using her name in ‘political arguments’ about Loyola student’s death.” My translation? Republicans are not to mention Gorman’s name until this dies down so as not to upset the governor.

The Tribune also first describe Medina-Medina the killer as a “Rogers Park man.”

The legacy media knows it is in serious difficulty. So why anger people further by treating Sheridan Gorman’s murder as an annoyance?

Why would Democrats who created the problem and media work together to cover it all with a bushel?

Is there more to this than mere political partisanship?

Then I heard Arthur R. Andrew on Dan  Proft’s Morning Answer program on WIND 560 AM. Andrew’s theory: That it dates back to the times of the Spanish Civil war and an exceedingly bitter communist fanatic known as “La Passionaria” who coined a phase None Shall Pass. This was the phrase that fueled intolerance and the intolerance and fanaticism that allowed Spanish communists to murder at least 8,000 priests and nuns in the Spanish Red Terror.

La Passionaria’s true name was Dolores Ibárruri Gómez, honored and beloved by the leftists from Spain to Cuba as a mother of their revolution. As I listened to Proft and his guest, and as I wrestled with a topic for this column, I thought of George Orwell’s observation of ideologically aggressive leftist women, like our intolerant AWFLS of today.

In “1984” he wrote, “It was always the women, and above all the young ones, who were the most bigoted adherents of the Party, the swallowers of slogans, the amateur spies and nosers-out of unorthodoxy.”

Arthur Andrew explained the political theory, that the Spanish communists believed that to give one inch would create an avalanche and lose everything. I know there are voices being raised everywhere except the Chicago media. And through the yelling, all I can hear is the anguish of the parents. And in our time, Democrats don’t give an inch as did the Communists in Spain years ago. And the children die.

That’s why I selected the painting below by Danish-born artist August Friedrich Albrecht Schenck. He settled in Paris as a young man, to study at the famous École des Beaux-Arts. Schenck spent most of his career in Paris, specializing in painting landscapes and animal subjects, which were often seen as a metaphor for human relationships and society. These included several snowy, winter landscapes depicting sheep struggling for survival.

Yes, I know that I’ve used this paining before. But it explains our current condition with a clarity that’s needed now.

In Anguish, a brave ewe stands defiantly over the limp body of her lamb. Blood from the lamb’s mouth trickles on to the snow.  The pair is encircled by a mass of menacing black crows. The situation appears hopeless, despite the bravery of the ewe.

The anguish of our American parents go unheard. They are mocked by political actors, by media sophists, tricksters and party propagandists as America is overwhelmed. In panic and outrage at the unfairness of it all, their throats begin to clench up. You can barely hear them.

But you can’t pretend they’re not there.

  1. while the media prints pritzker rhetoric about the death of a child being trumps fault , no one points out that if illinois cooperated with ICE perhaps the murderer would have been detained . also why must the democrats shut down DHS to alter the way ICE operates , why not do that thru legislation ?
    the press does not mention obama deporting 3 million illegal immigrants using ICE – if we survive this nonsense , it would be interesting to see how history treats all this

I grew up in northern Indiana and graduated years ago from Valparaiso University. I’ve been a subscriber for several years and look for these articles to tell me what’s really going on in Chicago, my all-time favorite city. Keep up the fight for truth John.

    1. Same John. Grew up in Roseland, went to Circle, started my career with Automatic Electric in Northlake. Had an opportunity to advance my career in the late seventies to transfer to the Kansas City area.
      What a disaster Chicago has become. I think even old man Daley would be horrified if he saw this planned destruction. When they started to immigrate from the south, is where the city’s downfall began.
      Now, it’s North Shore money, and the 13.2% burying the city, county, and state. What a waste.

But for the local media “when you cannot hate them enough,” it is the resurrection of the cowardly, gangbanging, murderous illegal alien who shot Sheridan Gorman from behind to a sympathetic retarded victim with a dimple in his noggin. Poor wee lad. Just mindin’ his own business at the lakefront when “startled” by likes of young white college kids.   7. Your article uses a number of descriptive words. Killed…died…dead…murder. All words defining finality. The end. The last and final breath on this earth at the hands of an Illegal Alien! An

    Unfortunately Illinois along with many other liberal states have eliminated the death penalty. Exodus, Leviticus and Deuteronomy remind us that “an eye for an eye” is befitting for the crime committed.

    We instead chose to house murderers, feed them, bathe them, care for their health and allow them to continue on this earth as if nothing ever happened.

  9. I’m beginning to lose hope for Chicago. It’s always bounced back and demonstrated that “I will” spirit, but I have serious doubts this time.

    It has become cliche to offer “thoughts and prayers” to all victims of city violence, but I don’t know what else anyone can do except vote out the yahoos running things now, and I don’t think the polity will do that.

    I love that city, but I don’t like it very much anymore.

    Somehow, the so called “public servants” have to pay for this. From that trans appearing alderwoman, to the mayor, and particularly Pritzker.
    Add the judges, mainly the Hispanic one to let loose that human garbage that lit that poor woman on fire. ALL have to pay, or justice will continue its collapse.
    Yesterday was that moronic No Kings day, and as I drove around, it dawned on me that they all look the same.

    That picture of the dead lamb and the ewe is exactly what politics and media is like today. I am one of those sheep in the fields, with the butchering crows all around. And the poor grieving parents… there are no words to express my sorrow for them.

    By mistake I tuned in to the WGN news last night at 9pm. It was frightening to see all the insane people (idiots) taking part in the “no kings” protests. How can they be so stupid? Do they all really want our wonderful America to fail? What will they say when there are really no police?

    During Pres. Trump’s first term they wanted to put him in prison, and it has never stopped. I pray for him and my country every day.

  12. Wait a minute! Wasn’t it Pritzker himself that called ICE enforcement actions “an attack on Americans”? Wasn’t he also complicit in stopping the ICE enforcement actions when he went on the news and told ICE to “Get out of Chicago. You are not helping us”?

    And NOW he’s blaming Trump because ICE wasn’t there to find and deport this scumbag?

    1. Yes to all of that. It’s no different than the ads he’s running on affordability, where he’s blaming Trump for Biden’s inflationary rises in the cost of living and tells the suckers on TV that he’s FIGHTING to bring costs down, even as he increases every kind of tax there is in Illinois.

  13. It’s actually difficult to describe appropriately the pain and fraud being inflicted on innocent Americans by vote-importing Democrats now. One writer reliably can. There’s a hard distinction between what Kass is writing about Chicago / Illinois / Governor Gloop and what the Tribune-Sun-Times-Medill-grads and other terminal media are writing. He’s writing fact and they’re writing fiction.

    The hall mark of the left is to pivot in such a way that it defies logic. They talk about law and order while allowing criminals back on the streets. They have a No Kings Day but will force you to take a vaccination or have teachers & doctors force your child to have gender reassignment. There is no standard or even common decency with them. They are smug and smarmy.
    The question I have to ask myself is when, at what point, will enough be enough? When will voters get rid of these parasites in office? What cataclysm will effect the change?

  17. It’s been a rough slog for you John and the Lord has rallied you to once again put in words the anguish your “choir” feels.
    When I had enough of the taxes and corruption, I became an ex pat in SW Florida.
    I “get” the massive tide of Dem vote from the city but nearly come to tears on what has happened to suburban Chicago.
    When I left Hoffman Estates, we had four Republican congressmen, Hyde on the south end, Hastert on the far west, Kirk on the north, and Crane on the east (and township neighbor Fitzgerald in the Senate) Borders have changed but those seats are all Dem now—and Sen. Duckworth lives in town.
    I don’t know what happened with this suburban crowd where most have the ability to think and care.

    1. …..and you can add to that list almost the entire DuPage County Board (precious few Republicans left), and the county officials as well. Last two standing – Gwen Henry as Treasurer and Robert Berlin as States Attorney. The harder to “see” boards, too – like the Forest Preserve District of DuPage – all I can say is they’re leading the way in the skullduggery you would never have expected here. The County Clerk is so inept that even most of the Democrats don’t like her, and the Coroner they managed to elect (replacing the physician who was doing the work for some time) is a ‘back-bench’ attorney (so, so helpful at a scene where the coroner is called for!) It seems to be a combination of things – lack of strong, capable Republican leadership (none of the current crop are Pate Philip, that’s for sure!) and the migration of many ethnics from the city and from countries where theocracy is the ‘name of the game’, so it’s translating into some really weird vote patterns. It does NOT bode well for DuPage County – that’s for SURE!!!!

    2. I live in Hoffman. Almost 30 years now. I moved here from Wisconsin. In that time, I’ve seen the suburbs bend left. Perhaps 10 dispensaries within a 10-mile radius of my residence, which was unthinkable 20 years ago. An AWFL takeover, husbands terrified of their wives that use no fault divorce as a metaphorical gun to their heads. And demographic changes, people like you that moved. Nearby Schaumburg has built a huge number of apartments on the bones of the old Motorola campus. Those new residents aren’t moving in from out of state. They are escaping the decaying city, yet they bring their Democrat politics with them. And the old Republicans don’t get Trump or the MAGA movement. Not at all. Because they don’t understand the righteous anger which drives it.

  18. This whole “No Kings” thing is confusing to me. I’ve traveled all over the world, and in countries where they actually have “Kings”, people are not allowed to dress up, march around, scream their slogans, and threaten people who have the audacity to disagree with them. Instead, in this country, the participants in these “marches” are allowed to do all of those things, and many (sic) “elected officials” support them.

    So, if they are allowed to do these things, screaming what used to be “expletives” and blocking traffic, where are the “Kings”?

  19. Pritzker is a disgrace. He made no bones about opposing ICE. Didn’t he dare Trump to go thru him to enforce deportations? Now he says it’s Trump who failed the process. 100% of all crimes committed by illegal aliens are preventable. They shouldn’t have been here in the first place.

  20. It is heartbreaking to think that our own government is allowing criminals to enter and remain among us to prey on us as well. Taking this as a problem money of the “left” however, I think is facile.

    The simple fact remains though, if this “Rogers Park” man was handed over to ICE upon his first arrest, he never would have been here to murder the Sheridan woman. You cannot get around that fact. Ditto, the Abraham woman, the Iowa student, Mollie Tibetts. All killed by people here illegally, many of whom had encounters with law enforcement and should have been gotten the hell out of here.

    For every AWFL, and those who were so colorfully described by Mr. Hickey, there are dumb, angry boomer men who are watching the carnage on Fox that the Us carries out abroad, and domestically by the masked ICE agents, and cheering it on, and allowing the government to cover up the Epstein mess and persecute truth tellers like Julian Asange.

    The intellectual discourse on most topics in this nation is simplistic, knee jerk, and definitely comes with an agenda. My heart goes out to people Locke the parents of the Abraham and the Gorman girls. You neglect to mention the parents of countless black children who are murdered every year right here on our West and South Sides by black predators as well.

    We tolerate depravity, thievery, even robbery sand murder, if it can further some agenda that is thrust upon us by the cabal of ultra rich hedonists that essentially run things.

    This goes way beyond Democrats and Republicans. There is murder, drugs and despair in red states too. There are people who work everyday, sometimes two or three jobs and can barely get by.

    You reach for low hanging fruit. You never go for the big picture. You decry debt when Sleepy Joe and Barack Hussein Obama run it up, and keep your mouth shut when it’s Trump. He’s spending like a drunken sailor too. You let them go after Thomas Massie, the only member of Congress who it seems cannot be bought.

    You’ve reminded me before that we live in a Republic. I’m very familiar with the Declaration of Independence. As long as we are divided into these two carefully constructed dialectically created, political camps, we can never rise up and demand the consent of the governed be granted when the government uses its power.

    There are so many issues that 60 or 70% of the public agree on. Public safety,
    Immigration, homelessness, health care, America First, ending the endless wars and our bombing of children. Plus I would venture that two thirds of the public, at least, wants this Epstein mess exposed with the same fervor the Clinton and Trump impeachment trials were done with, not to mention all the felonies Trump was convicted with.

    With all the law fare, we let the real crimes, the negligence, the malfeasance, the total disregard for human rights that our leaders give consent to in enormous bills that they never read.

    I am deeply sorry for the loss of these beautiful young people. We need to come together and take the nation back and demand better from our officials. We need to stop fighting with each other and hold the Congress accountable.

Yet, never delve into the manipulation of laws that were used, in his only conviction in the corrupt judicial system of New York. The judges, democrats thru and thru twisted the law into pretzels that Rube Goldberg would have been proud of. God would have been convicted of discrimination for throwing Lucifer out of heaven.

I have run for office in my village and served a term as a member of the Village Board. It was one of the highlights of my life. I got to serve, offer solutions, and vote on matters that affected the citizens of my village.

      To respond to the various slicked-over comments you’ve offered would take way more space, time and patience than most readers would like care to give it, so I’ll comment on one phrase you’ve offered: “…watching the carnage on Fox that the Us carries out abroad, and domestically by the masked ICE agents, and cheering it on…”. Since I’m not into anything even remotely resembling self-flagellation, I rarely endure CNN or MSNOW, and seldom the ‘legacy’ networks, especially since they barely even MENTIONED the slaughter of Ms. Gorman. The question is this: Upon what basis are you so disdainful of the effort the administration is exerting in Iran. I sincerely doubt that you or any of your compatriots are ‘read in’ on the security briefings with the highest levels of the U.S. Military, upon which these decisions are made. You make it sound like this was some will-o-the-wisp idea, because ‘well, why not?’ What you’re actually telling us is that your preference is either for the continuing terror and mayhem out of Iran at what was apparently an acceptable level to several of our past Presidents, or you’re telling us that you’re quite willing to ignore the situation until the inevitable ‘major attack’ on us or a close ally, only to then join in on the communal handwringing and salty tears of regret. You’re probably too young to recall the era of Pearl Harbor, but you certainly recall the unspeakable terror of 9-11. Would you prefer that Iran have been allowed to do something like that to the cities now within it’s range: Berlin, Paris, Rome, Athens? Perhaps it is time for us to realize that we have a President, as much as you disdain him and his efforts, who has the courage to look at a situation, assess what is in front of him and realize that someone has to wear the long pants in the room and deal with a known, vicious, ugly threat. We all know how effective Joey was in all of this….remember? “DON’T!!!” That was it! “DON’T!!!” That’s what the current crop of foot-stompers seems to think passes for world leadership.

      1. Karen, we are getting pushed around by the Iranians. They are winning. They are about to bend the entire Arab world to their will and sever US hegemony in the Middle East. They are hitting planes worth hundreds of millions with drones that cost 40 grand. We are running out of Patriot Missiles, they’ve diverted ordinance and materiel from Asia and Ukraine.

        We are spending a billion dollars a day on this folly. You would never condone that much being spent here on Americans to helps Americans with housing, medical, food, to build world class public Transportation, Airports, public safety.

        The Donald almost looks Bidenesque when he’s trying to explain his goals for this action. No one can be as senile as Biden was, but Trump will get there if he finishes out his term.

        Sadly, if Hakeem Jeffries is the next Speaker, I don’t expect much as far as progressive domestic agenda. He’s bought and paid for like the rest of them.     1. On Mayday 2020 Antifa spray-painted “NON PASSARONE” on my driveway and “Death to fascists” on my mailbox. They also scrawled a large capital A with a circle around it on my driveway as their signature. I immediately deleted their graffiti with a spray washer and covered the scar with Driveway Sealer.
      Lake County Sheriff’s Police informed me that about a dozen other Republicans had reported similar graffiti on their driveways.

    Let’s be honest had Ms Gormans (rip) murder not occurred on a prominent college campus, and had the victim been African American or Hispanic it would be only two or three news lines in the paper.

    He brags about keeping the military of the streets of Illinois. I wish he would do his job, do something to stop the violence on our streets. Bring in the Guard, do something to make our neighborhoods and communities livable. Place soldiers on the CTA.

    Be sides Toilets and his counterpart at the Secretary of State, the MOBs Banker, always blaming Washington DC, work for us the people, make us safe, give our children the best education possible, try to do the job you were elected to in Illinois.

  25. Great column, but hard to ewad without tears forming. As a physician coroner I had to tell parents of their children’s deathly suicide, overdose, naturally illness but hardest is homicide. It is difficult to keep your composure as you inform them.
    I cannot believe I am living in a time where a political party and legacy media cover all this up. These are evil individuals who need to be tried and if found guilty EXECUTED ASAP.

I suspect nothing much will change unless one of Gov Dumbo’s relatives, or Mayor Pannix’s kin, are victims. The anguish hasn’t hit close to home for these idiots to take up the mantle and actually do something to apprehend, deport and/or prosecute these criminals – instead of funding their medical care, education, food and housing – all at our expense. The senseless killings will continue until voters have finally had enough of leftist ideals.

  31. Today on CBS prior to the NCAA games, Charles Barkley used that platform to state (his opinion) that what was happening to “immigrants” was “unfair and wrong”. Mr. Barkley was, obviously, referring to the deportations of those who are in the country ILLEGALLY. Mr. Barkley should read this article – oh, and he should stick to what he know, basketball, instead of advocating for the disregard of law. If Mr. Barkley (or anyone) think a law(s) is wrong, there are ways to change the law(s). Ignoring and disregarding laws will, eventually lead to anarchy.

John should invite the editor to an interview on this site to explain their cowardice in the face of being pressured by the school to retract the story. If one of those

  37. Why has Alejandro Mayorkas not been charged criminally with malfeasance in public office? If Biden or some other person signed his pardon with an auto pen let Biden confirm publicly that he signed that document.
    Pardon or not Mayorkas is an accomplice to these on going crimes against American citizens.

To attempt to deflect blame for the effects of his failed policies and blame President Trump takes a level of gall that is rarely seen, even in the fever swamps of Illinois and Chicago politics. A spoiled rich kid who bought a governor’s seat thinks lies and Ozempic might buy him the presidency. Sheridan Gorman’s murder by a CRIMINAL ILLEGAL ALIEN (yeah, I said it) is just a minor annoyance to soulless bastards like Pritzker and his buffoon counterpart in Chicago, Brandon Johnson. It makes me embarrassed to be a resident of what used to be such a great city. Chicago and Illinois have become a punchline to the rest of the country.
