Chicago Democrats From America’s Murder Capital Refuse Trump’s Help on Crime

I grew up in Chicago–which for 13 straight years now has been the murder capital of America–believing that the Democrats were just too crafty to ever fall stupidly into some Republican trap.
But I was dead wrong.
When I was a boy there was legendary Chicago mayor named Richard J. Daley—who loved the city—and was tough enough and ruthless enough to run it and protect it.
Now Chicago is run by a racist pinhead subject to increasing anxiety and panic attacks. The city’s commercial real estate market is cratering as businesses flee, corporate offices close, and Democrat leaders refuse President Donald Trump’s help to send in the National Guard to help with the murder epidemic
Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, soft of mind and body, ridiculed the president’s offer of assistance, saying crime really isn’t an emergency, though more than 50 people were shot and at least 7 were murdered over the weekend.
The truth is that Mayor Pin Head and Gov. Fat Boy don’t really care about black and brown people who are the true victims of violent crimes. They care about the Chicago Teachers Union. They care about shielding Democrat boss Toni Preckwinkle, the Cook County Board President and Cook County Democrat chairman.
Boss Toni is a hard leftist protected by the corrupt corporate legacy media. She is without a doubt the architect of Chicago’s anarchy of crime.
The Democrats are now the pro-criminal party. They are eager to defund police and clear out the county jail that Boss Toni considers too black, too brown. Although the victims of violent crime in Chicago are black and brown. The city’s public schoolchildren can’t read or do math at grade level. All they’re prepared to do is make a life of violent crime and prison.
Chicago circles the drain.
And mothers weep for their dead children as residents hide or sleep on their floors to avoid gang gunfire, as Pritzker and Johnson ridicule Trump’s efforts to help black and brown people, the poorest among us.
The man who came up with the idea of using the National Guard in Chicago to suppress the gangs wasn’t Donald Trump, but Robert Milan, longtime local prosecutor, who was a guest on The Chicago Way podcast that I co-host with WGN executive producer Jeff Carlin. I leave the link in this column so you may listen.
Milan spent his life in law enforcement and is disgusted by Pritzker and Johnson avoiding violent crime.
“When do you ever see them stand up after a bloody weekend and talk about, you know, what’s going on out there? You don’t see it. Why?
“They don’t care about you,” Milan said. “I’ll say it again; they don’t care about you. It’s just ‘let it happen. We’re not going to address it.’ We’re not going to do what we need to do. And that makes me sick.”
What makes me sick, as a life-long news reporter, is that Robert Milan isn’t on every newscast and in every newspaper column to talk about this.
Because Chicago’s children are constantly being dumped in Chicago’s river of violence, to float away, forgotten as the dead are forgotten by the political class.
Milan along with former Chicago Police officer Jim Smith developed the idea of using the National Guard.
“Every alderman wants more police, right? Well, this would free them up to do it. And it would cut down carjackings dramatically. “
In the early 2000s, Chicago experimented with oversaturating the most troubled neighborhoods with cops. Milan was a senior supervisor with a great crime-fighting organization, the Cook County States Attorney’s office.
Chicago Police shut down K-Town, the infamous West Side neighborhood. No one would drive through K-Town then. Pritzker and Johnson wouldn’t dare walk those streets without armed guards.
“It was very, very dangerous. It was open air, drug markets, unbelievable amount of shootings and murders. And they shut it down for prolonged period of time, a couple of months. I mean, they saturated it. Listen, on the the wiretaps these gangbangers were saying ‘we gotta get out of here, man.’ There wasn’t a single shooting in that area the entire two months that they saturated it. So, I thought to myself, why don’t we do this, you know? Across the West side, South side, the most dangerous areas, the 10th, the 15th, the 6th districts and, and bring in extra help, bring in the National Guard, bring in ATF, the Cook County Sheriff’s, Illinois State Police, and FBI. And so that’s how I first came up with the idea.”
Why are Pritzker and Johnson so adamantly opposed? Why are they so threatened that the politicians are on the verge of hysterics?
Because it works.
It worked in Washington. It will work in Chicago. And they can’t afford that. They’d rather people die than lose power.
They don’t want to risk access to all those “violence interrupter” funds they use to organize voters. And they don’t want public scrutiny on how do-nothing prosecutors and lenient judges are selected. Hint: DEI may be involved here. Chicago is still a machine town, though the machine was Irish, it is now black.
But Mayor Panic Attacks is stubborn. He’s in denial.
“No federal troops in the city of Chicago!” he chanted and shouted the other day. “No militarized force in the city of Chicago! We’re gonna defend our democracy in the city of Chicago!”
“Are you prepared to defend this land? … If this president decides to continue to break this constitution, it’s going to be the labor movement that stitches it back together.”
It is all nonsense, everything he says about crime is nonsense. And everything Pritzker says about crime is also nonsense.
What I’ve been telling my readers for years now is to listen for the thing that isn’t mentioned.
It’s a name of a Democrat political boss, Toni Preckwinkle. She’s running for re-election. She’s under the media radar. But she’s one of the furies I’ve written about:
Four is also the number of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse. But I prefer the Four Furies of Chicago.
Every day brings grim and bloody news from the city of anarchy, violence, and corrupt politics. The mobs take over downtown, the street gangs shoot each other at the iconic landmark at Michigan Avenue called “The Bean” in Millennium Park.
The names may change. But the stories don’t. And Boss Toni Preckwinkle doesn’t. She helped engineer the election of the first George Soros do-nothing prosecutor, Kim Foxx, her hapless political aide and public liar who helped Jussie Smollett.
Boss Toni picks the judges now. And she was behind the abomination of the pro-criminal so-called Safety Act, which as Milan says should have been named the Danger Act.
She gave Johnson a political job after he failed as a teacher. He was a political hack even before he was elected.
She’s behind the move to empty the Cook County Jail of criminals, because the criminals are black and brown, and Boss Toni doesn’t like that. But the victims of violent crime are mostly black and brown too, and she and the other Democrats aren’t worried about victims of crime.
And the Democrats don’t really care about them, do they?
Democrats made it clear to Chicago that Black Lives Don’t Matter.

All true but I have limited interest in these rants about incompetence and dysfunction because Chicago voters keep voting for it. If they dont care why should I?

Stop blaming the people of Chicago, and lay the blame at the feet of the demagogues to whom it belongs.
This last weekend had some chart topper numbers for shootings and murders.
More than Labor Day weekend 2024. But nothing to see here.
Once again the Dems miss an opportunity to regain some trust. If Chicago is short 1000 or more cops and it takes months to hire and train them, why not ask for the help temporarily while you get up to full staff? The Mayor would have looked like a genius, no constitutional crisis and you’ve saved Democracy…not to mention lives! As for Jabba the Hutt, he goes on a walking “tour” of Lake Shore Drive in broad daylight surrounded by security and doesn’t see any crime. That’s like looking for a bad neighborhood on a cruise ship. Hey dummy, take a walk in Englewood in the dark with no protection and tell me how safe you feel. Those who voted for these idiots must be so proud.
The reason why we need to care is because, as they say, failure is not an option. The problem is complex. Decades of failed social policies, a prison system that does not rehabilitate and a criminal justice system that doesn’t hold people accountable. To fix this requires fixing each issue but yet coordinating them together. It did not happen overnight and it will take time to fix. But in the meantime we must stop the bleeding and the loss of life. The issue is our politicians want sound bites to keep their own power (and their security details) vs real solutions. A sad state of affairs. Hats off to John and Milan to keep us focused on trying to save our city.

Is the reason Johnson, Preckwinkle and Pritzker won’t accept help in stopping the violence maybe because the violent offenders are the core of their “get out the vote” machine? Just asking..
I think there are two reasons. One is TDS. Recently someone said that if Trump endorsed breathing, Pritzker would hold his breath. The second is fear that it would actually work and Pritzker and Johnson would be shown to be the failures that they are. That would be bad enough, but the prospect of being shown up by Trump?! Unthinkable!

We were a union family. Lifelong Democrats. My dad from the old country voted for Jesse Jackson for chrissakes. While I cannot speak for my entire family, the Dem party will never get a vote from me again. Especially in Illinois. They’ve done nothing to earn my vote.
But you are 100% correct when you state in this column that the machine is now Black. You are also correct, though you don’t explicitly state it that Black lives do not matter to the Black machine. Isn’t that a kick in the head?
Boss Toni, Mayor Johnson, AG Rauhul, Judge Evans, Kim Foxx, Barack Hussein Obama even, all Black, all care more about power than the lives of ordinary black folks, especially those who are poor. They are more racist and indifferent than their white predecessors whom they insulted repeatedly over the years.
I guess that’s “equity”, isn’t it? Black pols here in the County of Cook can be just as crooked and racist as Biden and all of the other do nothing democrats. In fact, even more so as they step over the bodies of slain children on their way to reelection with their private security detail protecting them.
Last night I was listening to Shaun Thompson in the car, and I think he summed it up correctly when he said that if you vote Democrat, you must either be a moron or a crooked scumbag. There is absolutely no reason to vote for them unless they’re paying you, either with welfare, or a cushy job with a fat pension.
Pretty soon the pension will be gone too. But don’t worry, the Democrats will protect their pensions. They will make sure the pain gets spread “equitably” and hurt the widows trying to get by in 35 grand a year the most.
They don’t care because they have the votes tied up to keep them in power. As long as the cattle keep marching up the ramp to the slaughterhouse, why should they care?

True, but sadly, white, black and brown tribes who cut their own little corrupt deals with the devil over past decades also voted for Mayor Pin Head, Gov. Fat Boy and Boss Preckwinkle as part of the deal.
Even if Trump managed somehow to clean out the Augean stable of Chicago politics, I have to wonder how long it would take the city to revert to its bad old ways: it’s part of the Chicago Way tribal culture.
My great-great grandfather, Elliott W. Sproul, was a Chicago politician starting in the 1890s, and became a member of the federal House of Representatives in the 1920.
I have his scrapbook, kept by one of his daughters, of his political career.
The only thing that’s changed in the 130+ years since he started is that in that time, the corrupt politicians were Republicans. Of course, when the Democrats took over in the 1930s/1940s, they became just as corrupt because that is and has been the nature of Chicago and Illinois politics.
Excellent point! Republican corruption emerged immediately after the conclusion of the Civil War. It WAS the Civil war. Lincoln understood this. He was always a Whig, in fact I just learned that toward the end of his life he began reaching out to Southern Whigs to re-form a National Whig party, to counter the Radicals.
I swear to God, the real Lincoln is as great, or greater than the myth. But for none of the reasons we are allowed to learn. Ulysses S Grant came under heavy fire during his administration for the abject corruption of the Republican Party. Fire so heavy that die hard Confederates like john Mosby and Henry Alexander Wise (former VA Governor) ran to his DEFENSE. Confederates defending US Grant – from the Radicals. As I have said over and over again, and with sincere gratitude to Mr. Kass – this has all happened before and it is happening now again – but we can WIN.

Good morning John. I saw in the paper this morning that Chicago needs help with crime, NOT THE NATIONAL GUARD? Really? Where has the idiot Mayor and Governor have been these past few years. Michigan Avenue stores are bordered up, so many us are afraid to go to the theater or walk the beaches of Chicago and they tell us there is no crime? Are we serious folks? Look around you. The one of the prettiest Cities on the Planet is no more. It is full of thugs and Mayors that have no clue what they are doing and they want to change the City to fit their purpose, not make it safe for all. Ridiculous. The Press is all Liberal and they have no clue as to what is happening.
The real reason they object to Trump sending in the National Guard is ELECTORAL:
They see Trump 2.0…”What have you got to lose [by voting R]?”
Trump is making a play for the inner cities of blue states–their strongholds–and freeing the vote-slaves from being victims of solvable crime. Once they are free, there’s reason to never go back to being a slave again.
It’s kind of like invisible, internal redistricting:

Well if ur weren’t for the handiwork of our CFD EMS crews and great trauma surgeons and ED personnel the folks at the Robert J Stein Institute of Forensic Medicine (aka County Morgue) would be even busier. I’d guess 4 docs cutting each day means two lengthy autopsies plus all the other questioned deaths in a populous county.
They are exhausted. And all those murders mean time for the docs at 26th&Cal too. Enough already.

Everyone talks about the number of shootings and deaths in Chicago — but almost no one talks about the hidden costs that linger long after the headlines fade.
For every life lost, there are countless survivors — people who face lifelong medical challenges, repeated surgeries, months of rehab, and permanent disabilities. The medical bills must be staggering
And how about the first responders and hospital staffs. EMTs, ER nurses, trauma surgeons, and paramedics see the worst of it day after day. Are they dealing with PTSD?
I agree. As a former anesthesiologist at a major level 1 trauma center (Loyola), and critical care doc, folks don’t realize the hell – financial, and medical – that many survivors of the gang wars face. As you point out, often for the rest of their lives. And that does not even include the life changing effects upon the survivor’s family. Folks are really ignorant and naive when they look at these stats and then say:” Oh, well. Most survived.”
Sadly, the people who need to read this column won’t see it.
Exactly as you noted. General public don’t read news papers anymore. They can only watch the TV news. Take ABC news for example, this black news girl who paints herself white constantly badmouths Trump from the day he took office while gleefully announcing any garbage about the Mayor. When Trump’s 3rd nominee is selected she would go after commenting about his other 2 failed nominees. Now when it comes to the Dems, she defends them on every occasion : ” Yes, 50 people were shot and 7 died over the weekend; but it’s far less than half the crimes since last few years”. This is not news reporting but is 100% campaigning. The founding fathers did not anticipate TV news campaign in your family room in their wildest dreams when they wrote congress shall not pass any laws limiting the freedom of the press.

Started by Obama, everyone these days plays race and identity cards to which I also take responsibility for voting for this sly guy in 2008. Ever since, the Dems use only these cards for vote getting. Last election, with Trump as the only Card, they got more than 70 mil votes for that worthless girl. Now, for 2026 the Dems will use the same cards to obtain a majority. Take my fellow countryman, US Rep Raja Krishnamoorty from Chicago Northside and former precinct worker for Obama. In his TV campaign ads for Senator, he uses first his race card and then Trump card, every time. He says, as a Senator he will fight against the ‘Trump Bully’! And how? you idiot?
I am saying all this to emphasize a constitutional amendment to Free Speech when it comes to the National, Televised Media.
I wonder if the Schiff Show is going to help the Raja now. Raja is my congressman. I watched him when he and Schiff were doing their thing in the Russian Collusion Investigation. I have never voted for him and never will.

The only reason to not welcome free law enforcement help from the Federal Government is that the Democrats that run Illinois are more interested in protecting the criminals and their financial interests at the expense of the law abiding citizens of every race, color, and creed. So, how is that in the financial interests of the Democrats that run Illinois? During Prohibition, organized crime paid off everybody. It took the Feds to come in and clean up Chicago. Can we learn anything from history?
I hate to say it but I do not give a flying f’…k what happens in the City of Chicago anymore, and what the weekend body count of murdered babies and children total. It is not even “news” anymore, its “olds” when a three year old is shot in the wee hours with its responsible parents have them out and about in the means streets. The reality of evil and hypocrisy in Chicago / Illinois Democrats is actually difficult to grasp, even when described with Kass’ savvy and power. It seems unreal.
So imagine a world in which idiot villains Pritzker and Johnson did NOT exist, and you, successful Hollywood screenwriter Robert, write a script featuring those characters: the waddling billionaire governor who appeared to be eating the state he was destroying, and the fool Black mayor so frantic to defend his union machine that he refused help for his city’s countless Black victims.
You present your script to a studio producer. He tells you, “Sorry, Robert, this one’s too heavy-handed, too fantastic. Tone it down. Go with Mayor Means Well and Governor Compromise. Nobody would believe ‘Mayor Pin Head and Governor Fat Boy.’ That’s a Marvel Movie.”
Pritzker, Johnson and gang are adamantly opposed because they know it will drastically drive down crime, and make them look not so good….
John well written as usual. But as I stated before if Chicagoans don’t think it’s important to elect a COMPETENT mayor then this is what they are left with. Who knows if Chicago will ever recover.
Pinheads Johnson and Pritzker assume with their racial Marxism envy, greed and fear can keep the black voters monolithically in lockstep. In truth they care only for their own power and nothing for their constituents, black or white. If greed, fear and envy of their sheep are ever diminished through the administration of truth and education, their reign is over.
Labor Day weekend shooting and murder totals didn’t qualify for front page Tribune headlines. That in itself says a lot.

The guy looks like a big toddler, huge head, tiny shoulders and a big bowling ball gut that is there for one reason – self indulgence, not because he suffers from obesity. Now he claims that Trump is sending in the Texas National Guard. No wait, Trump is sending in the Feds to invade Latino Neighborhoods, no wait, Trump is sending in the Feds to time it with Mexican Independence Day, no, because he is going to eliminate elections…
Compare the character of Newscum and Pritzker, with their National Ambitions to say Lincoln, or Jefferson. It’s like “how low can we go”. With filth like this pretending to National leadership, indeed, our Democracy could very well be in grave danger.

It could be fixed. You said up for reelection. Simple, Preckwinkle, Pritzker and Johnson don’t get voted back in. But, in Chicago, corruption, power and arrogance rule. Sad to say, frankly, if I were Trump, I’d say screw it, let it rot. Make it a poster child for what these lefties stand for. And should they ever scream and yell about anything, he could simply say, “remember, you didn’t want my help”.

I was not aware that Chicago’s population has declined by 130,000 people since 2014. So, Chicago must be mostly farmland since it has two of the biggest jackasses living on the land. One of those jackasses has consumed large amounts of food grown there.
Mayor Pin Head may be correct in his assessment of crime statistics, pointing out, with his pin head, that crime has gone down. Well, with the decline in population, that is not surprising. I would think statistically, crime is still at sky high levels. I think this last Labor Day’s crime stats show that.
Let us all remind Governor Porky, that he utilized the National Guard during the 2024 Democrat National Convention. He had to make sure the delegates did not see the crime on the near west side of Chicago.
I also notice that the Attorney General of Illinois made an appearance at an animal feeding the other day. Who is this guy? Has he ever brought legal action against the other animals that commit crime in the city? He is even more useless than Pin Head and Porky. No wonder the state is on life support.
Richard J. Daley was 74 when he died. Toni Preckwinkle is now 78. She should be retired now and enjoying her golden years. Also, I can understand Johnson bowing to her, but why Pritzker? It was Madigan who made Pritzker, not Preckwinkle.

Great idea using quotes from Bob Milan- he was one of the very finest Prosecutors with whom I ever had the privilege of working. He truly understood that the relationship between Police and Prosecutors is “Symbiotic”, in that we truly need each other, and he did his job with Honor.

More then a few of your subscribers here swore an oath to defend the US Constitution from all enemies both foreign and domestic. If these aren’t the acts of an enemy of the American people then I’m terribly confused.

Excellent column excellent pod cast. I can speak truthfully of Bob Milan the man actually cared, and reached out to victims and family members more than most prosecutors in my career.
Milan knew our streets and gang territories. I could name a lot of great Assistant State attorneys including Anita Alvarez when she was in a court room and felony review.
Civil servants who cared about the improvised neighborhoods and the good people living there in fear, in really a war zone.
Prosecutors whose only mission was to do what’s right, not downgrade or deal
away criminal charges.
Let’s just call it what it is that the cops and prosecutors in Cook County deal with everyday.

It’s a sad fact that the majority of our Chicago Public School children know personally or know of someone who has been shot or murdered.

Amen brother, I was an ASA back when we were “real” prosecutors like Bob before Crimesha turned the office into a woke joke where prosecutors were gelded, criminal charges were reduced or weakened , and the public defenders were tougher than the ASA’s. Whether you liked or hated them the male Southside Irish prosecutors were a rough bunch where bets were made on the weights of the bad guys, see Judge Locallo’s book. They are still trying to crucify my old childhood friend Ofc. Kristen Kato for keeping thugs and rapist at bay decades after the fact.
Maybe Chicago D’s need the influx of dead voters to balance all those living voters that moved out – especially when the pipeline of illegal aliens is drying up…
The current Democrats in office are not even interesting. At least in the recent past they were. I mean, who couldn’t sit down with a cup of coffee and take in a NYT article about “Beirut on the lake?” Back then Harold and Eddie V were almost like Shakespearean actors. They each had their roles. Even Jane Byrne kicking Mayor Bilandic upstairs to the Supreme Court was interesting. But not anymore. There is nothing interesting about Chicagoans ending up as flotsam and jetsam carnage from Pugsley’s non principled argument that he must stop Trump from sending in the Feds! 50 shot and 8 murdered on Labor Day weekend just ain’t gonna cut it for Brioni Boy or the corpulent governor. They are just a bore. So is Preckwinkle who never wore a pair of shoes that weren’t “sensible.” I literally detest these people. And yet here I am. A grandfather of 3 about to retire soon but left with a boring political atmosphere. Please make it go away! Or I may have to. Oh for a good Leon Despres city council floor speech!
Reading all this makes me want to permanently walk over the border to Indiana or Wisconsin.

Well the bottom line is that the “black and brown” and Lakeside libs voted for Mayor Pinhead, and Guv. Fatboy, and Ms. Taxwinkle, and will continue to do so. It’s a cliche but very true: “you deserve what you vote for.”

Chicago had a clear choice between Johnson and Vallas. They chose Johnson (even after the incredible Mayor Lightfoot fiasco). And the inconvenient fact is – and this is most telling – most Chicago voters stayed home and did not vote. The fairest most transparent elections possible will not change a thing in present day Chicago. Chicago like most big blue cities has been infiltrated by far left wing marxists who have captured our schools and our culture. That translates in the voting booth to DP hegemony. Change the culture, and you’ll change the vote.
Restore the VALIDITY to our election processes and we will see vastly different candidates in office. Our elections are rigged; there is a “marauder” in the system. The will of The People is NOT being accurately represented. Our state elections officials are NOT complying with established federal election laws (e.g., NVRA & HAVA). For instance, did you know that in the 2024 November Election our “certified” statewide election results included 56,164 excess votes counted beyond the number of voters who participated, with no explanation for their origin? I ask you, Bruce, how can we possibly have MORE VOTES THAN VOTERS who cast them??? While I mostly agree with many of the points, John is raising here, I don’t see how sending in the National Guard in to spread mulch, rake, leaves, and pick up dog shit is going to be a sustainable solution to the murder and crime problem in Chicago. City needs to hire about 1,000 cops for starters.

If there is an improvement, it’s only temporary until the guard leaves. It is not a sustainable solution. I’ve seen pictures of them doing some beautiful landscaping.
Yes, everything John said is true. But let us not forget another of the Furies that John didn’t include. THE LOCAL NEWS MEDIA. Both print and television are equally culpable. They work in tandem to make sure that obvious questions are not asked of these bloviating windbags. They give them prime time on television without asking any questions that would highlight their ineptitude. The press prints the bullshit they spew without any questioning of these two cretins. The weekend had a rather large “resistance ” parade with many Awfuls, Karen’s and other Caucasian North Shore denizens marching in the rather affluent area of West Randolph Street With its many four star dining options to whet your appetite after the walk it goes without saying. Strange, since there are many four star dining options at say, 63rd and South Ashland to add to the stew with many locals who would be happy to join their movement. Then again, I guess these locals were not invited. I get it. Blacks and Browns need not apply. Yet our local media reported the story gleefully without asking the question of organizers why the march didn’t take place where the National Guard would be likely to be deployed. That would require a real reporter to ask. Not what we have in Chicago.

I just have to ask the question, “do Chicago voters really care?” I hear all the angst coming from women of color, but I never see or hear a man of color speak as formidably. I guess my birthday wish today would be for peace and quiet, but that is not going to happen in the shooting gallery of Chicago.

I wouldn’t be shocked to learn that local officials who have taken the soft-on-crime approach do so because they are on the payroll of street gangs or drug cartels. The same way Cook Co. judges and Chicago alderman in the past were on the payroll of the Outfit. And U.S. Senators and Representatives today consistently vote for anything pro-Israel because they are taking AIPAC money, or are in fear of being blackmailed by their controllers. This is how politics works.

Powerful article! I lived in Chicago for 40 years and continued visiting my mother everyday for next 25 years. It was a wonderful city. It’s not the same anymore. Fear pervades your being as soon as you enter it.
Just let it sink into oblivion with the rats that run it and start over.
