Confused, Starving Reporters Now Desperate for Food After Killing American Journalism

By John Kass

Sunday May 25, 2025

After it destroyed its own credibility by twisting the truth to protect Joe Biden and hide his senility, can American corporate legacy news media hope for rebirth?

No.

It’s dead. Journalism killed itself covering up Joe Biden’s senility so Democrats could maintain power. Humpty Dumpty can’t be put back together again. The media is a feast for crows.

CNN’s Fake Jake Tapper and the rest of them can shriek and pull out their hair, protesting wildly that they are true journalists interested in “speaking truth to power.”

That too, is a lie.

They are not journalists, they are political propagandists. They’re paid whores.

This latest episode of mainstream media corruption brings to mind an apocryphal story often wrongly attributed to Churchill or George Bernard Shaw, “Madam, we’ve already established what you are. All we’re doing now is discussing the price.”

The disgraced legacy news media is a one-eyed jack, a knave without honor, caught covering up for the Democrat Party lie, installing and maintaining the senile old man who had the nuclear codes. And the mainstream media, from the dying papers to CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS and NBC banded together vilifying any colleague who demanded answers.

The boss whore of this despicable gang is Tapper, who is now cashing in, selling his book, telling the tale he loudly condemned others for approaching . And all of his posse who profit after keeping their mouths shut for so long, after putting the nation through hell, deserve contempt. Tapper’s newfound “humility” is but another means to whitewash this shameful scandal.

In this they are much like the prostitute going through pockets after the client has been bludgeoned. But Jake the Fake is not alone. They told us he was “sharp as a tack” but was he? No.

Just who was running the country? And why should we trust anything the Democrats and their media coms shop tell us going forward?

Democrats worked in concert to cover up Biden’s senility.  And so did the mainstream media played along because their hatred and fear of Donald Trump compelled them. We saw it all as it happened, so there’s no spinning their way out of it. But they’re trying desperately, beseeching America to eat their waste. And all we really need are the treasonous actors who used the presidential autopen without the people’s permission.

“We are in the midst of this staggering presidential scandal from the Biden administration. Whether you’re talking about the mental decline or the physical decline, there was a conspiracy to keep the American people from knowing who was actually operating as president,” said Federalist Editor-in-Chief Mollie Hemingway during a Fox News interview. “It really makes all other presidential scandals throughout history seem to somewhat pale in comparison.”

It would take volumes to list all the White House scandals, from US Grant, Warren Harding, Woodrow Wilson and his manipulative wife Edith; Bill and Hillary Clinton and the 30,000 vanished emails; Barack Obama of the Fast and Furious scandal and the thousands of guns Obama had passed through to Mexican naro-gangs, the murders of the Americans at Bengazi and the political partisan abuses of the IRS.

There is a media myth about Obama’s administration perpetuated by the New York Times, that Obama’s administration was scandal free. No, it was not.

And of course, Richard Nixon of Watergate infamy.

But this one about Biden is much worse than the Watergate break-in. In that one the White House covered up the lawbreaking and the media uncovered it. The establishment media, led by the Washington Post hounded Nixon from office.

But in this one Biden and the legacy media covered up his senility, installed him, and publicly ridiculed any of us who dared point out they were protecting a presidential meat puppet at the expense of the American people.

Americans need news that they can trust to make important decisions about their vote and who would govern them. But they can’t trust this sort of garbage.

And the American people are being told to take it and eat it.

We’re told to eat the garbage they throw at us through the video screens and over the internet, to smile and applaud the corporate legacy media for “protecting” our republic from authoritarianism.

But as we say in Chicago whenever they put their lips together and blow: It’s all bullshit.

I take all this personally.

I spent 40 years working in the mainstream media as a reporter, political writer, columnist, and editorial board member of the Chicago Tribune. I loved working there, loved the readers and the paper and the work we accomplished, the detailed reporting we pursued. I just loved it. We were on a mission, in a politically corrupt city, as the tribunes for the people.

The Trib was once the voice of midwestern conservatism. It was about as mainstream as you could get. No longer. Once the leftist Jacobins took over newsroom, the knives came out and I had to go.

But it wasn’t the ideology that attracted me, it was that we could do real reporting and journalism there. The problem with the Jacobins is they pursued a course that moved away from seeking the truth, they were doctrinaire and lost any pretense of curiosity. They helped turn corporate journalism into what it is today.

Years ago, an associate of the Chicago Outfit and I were having lunch and talking about the mob. Specifically, about the economic lessons to be learned from the Chicago Outfit.

“Citizens see a couple, three cows on the side of a hill and think about putting them together and make more cows, make a herd. And sell the beef.

What’s wrong with that?

“Nothing but that’s not the Chicago Way,” he said. “The Chicago Way is they pull out shoguns, shoot all the cows and make a barbecue. And then they ride off looking for more cows to kill.”

I found the photo of the hyenas to illustrate that point, because hyenas aren’t interested in thinking about the future. And neither was the media, so intent it was on protecting Democrats from the people. And so, the news media devoured its own credibility with Biden, and now wonders where they might find the next feast.

Biden was not fit for office even before his inauguration.

As the great Miranda Devine wrote long ago, Joe Biden has been president-in-name-only since he was inaugurated

Jake the Fake and MSNBC and the New York Times and the rest of the pack of hyenas must now admit there is no feast without customers.

Who would pay for what passes for corporate legacy journalism now?

Only fools. Only chumbolones.

A few are still paying for garbage to eat as Fake Jake squeeze the chumbolones, as the New York Times looks down its nose at the American middle class.

But many others turn away from garbage journalism and reach out to independent journalism every day.

You’re always welcome here at https://johnkassnews.com/

Where did it start?

You might argue that American journalism fell apart with the rise of Al Gore’s internet that killed news advertising. Then the newspapers relied on subscriptions, and if subscribers were rabid Jacobins, they demanded offending heads be lopped.

But I’d argue, yeah, sure, OK but don’t forget the hopium smokers in the Washington press corps when Barack Obama became president.

I remember writing about the depressing Washington Press Corps addiction to hopium as they offered Obama as their Marxist demi-god. All the newsrooms were besotted.

“Obama hopium was so powerful, that that first rush of it, well, it sent a tingle up my leg. Or down my leg. Then up. So now, when I read newspaper stories about Obama’s political history, like a recent gooey, puffy profile in the Washington Post and it didn’t mention Obama as a willing member of Chicago’s Daley machine, well, I didn’t get angry.

“Not anymore.

“Why? Because I’m a hope-head.

“Now, I don’t get upset when foreign and national journalists fail to mention Tony Rezko, or the Daley boys, or how the Chicago machine plans to staff the Department of Justice, and the new Department of Homeland Casinos.

Who cares? I’m numb with hopium.

But that was then.

I’m much better now.

I asked for a Congressional investigation days ago. And for the identity of who controlled the autopen. There seems to be no other way if we’re to keep the republic. The names must be known.

According to The Hill, the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform will be investigating Biden’s use of an “autopen” to sign documents such as the pardons issued just before he left office.

The Hill reported that “Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) said in a statement he plans to subpoena former Biden aides Annie Tomasini, Anthony Bernal and Ashley Williams, who he claims “ran interference” for Biden and may have overseen the use of the autopen.

“Meanwhile, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) is demanding the upper chamber hold hearings on Biden’s health and competence, and rightly so. He wants to interview people who were close to the former president. As he told Axios, “We have to. I mean, who was running the government?”

Years ago, in his first news conference since taking office, taxpayer-funded PBS White House reporter Yamiche Alcindor asked President Joe Biden whether migrants are crossing the southern border because he’s so “moral” and “decent.”

She embarrassed herself without a smidgen of humility.

“You’ve said over and over again that immigrants shouldn’t come to this country right now, this isn’t the time to come. That message is not being received,” Alcindor said as the nation faces a crisis of illegal immigration not seen in decades. “Instead, the perception of you, that got you elected as a moral, decent man, is the reason why a lot of immigrants are coming to this country and trusting you with unaccompanied minors.”

Biden, a moral man? A decent man?

Yamiche, go sit on Jake’s lap and maybe he’ll tell you bedtime stories of the girl who saved journalism. Better yet Yamiche, just cancel yourself.

Last week on the Chicago Way podcast, co-host Jeff Carlin and I interviewed our friend Tom Bevan, co-founder and president of Real Clear Politics.

We talked about Biden, the media, Deep State operative James Comey and more. You might want to listen here.

I asked him about whether the media can survive this.

No, he said.

“The media’s broken,” Bevan said. “There is no putting it back together. It is Humpty Dumpty for sure.”

And all the king’s horses, and all the king’s men…

Don’t forget that Monday is Memorial Day, for all those who died for this country.

It is not a day to commemorate steaks and hotdogs and beer and chips. It is not the day to raise our glasses to our gluttony. Monday is the day we say a prayer and remember all those who gave their lives for the American republic.

A republic, said Dr. Franklin, if you can keep it.

Can we keep it?

That’s up to you. But they died trying to keep it. In all the cemeteries of American war dead across the world, among the white markers and crosses across the landscape, row after row here, in France, everywhere, it is held in a language unspoken by the political class, but perhaps you can feel it all the same:

A republic, if you can keep it.

Lest we forget.

  1. As always , you tell it like it is – powerful column today . What/how do universities and colleges teach and prepare budding journalists for the real world ? Research, confirm, seek the truth or is it “ follow the narrative road , follow follow follow , follow the narrative road “ ? Thank you Miranda Devine

      1. Yeah. Maybe the worst thing ever done to journalism was the metastasis of Journalism Schools throughout academia. It was tolerable when there were only a couple, like Columbia and Medill, which could do research and deep thinking. But when they sprouted up all over the place, staffed by ideological mediocrities and worse, and the diploma became a credential, it was cancerous.

  2. “The boss whore of this despicable gang is Tapper, who is now cashing in, selling his book, telling the tale he loudly condemned others for approaching . ” Indeed.

You ask, dear writer, “When did it begin?” In the Obama advent season of course and right here in Chicago and followed national with Ezra Klein’s JOURNOLIST legion.

These smarmy crypto-fascists not only killed journalism but poisoned well of scholarship, just as Goebbels managed in the waning days of the Weimar Republic.

The Lynn Sweets and Eric Zorns hoed the soil for David Axelrod’s Obama Orchards that continue to yield such rotten fruit,

    Too much pique? N’cest pas?

      1. Quite right, Steve, But the Johnny Appleseed of Obama ( Comb Over dave Axelrod) really got the Commie Hatred of the West and America planted to stay.

  3. With the luck of good weather, my family and I barbecued together and enjoyed each other’s company with Chicago baseball on the tube in the background. Monday is reserved for a more solemn small-town patriotic tribute to our fallen heroes. I ran into an aged veteran while taking my geriatric morning stroll and asked him this question, why do some people say “happy Veterans’ Day” since there is nothing happy about the reason for this day. Neither of us had an answer, I thanked him for his service.

  4. Happy Memorial Day John to you and your family. God Bless our Service Man and Women that fought for our Freedom. John American Journalism has been dead for over 40 years in America.
The Press has been bought by the Rich and Communists. Period. God Help us all. Only God can save us now just trust in him. Our young have no respect or know much about God or Church. Money is what they worship today.

  5. The Congress is not interested in the truth, the Congress is only interested in photo ops for the fools back home. The only way to expose and punish all those involved in this great coverup is keep after them until the slime has no more dark corners to hide in and then pound them mercylessly until they crack – like Jake the Snake, who deflects responsibility for the fire by pointing to the book of matches. Like the rats that turn on each other when cornered.

  6. I have a standard comeback to my liberal friends when they complain about Trump and how he is doing a course correction now after he had 4 years to prepare for his second term.

“Just remember that if the liberal media hadn’t torpedoed Trump back in 2020 he wouldn’t be president now.”

  7. Excellent article today. I thought of sharing it with some of my leftist friends but decided not to waste my time. They really can’t handle the truth. They truly don’t want this country to continue & it hurts my heart to admit that.

Confession time – I’m a chumbolone who still subscribes to the Daily Herald. I cancelled the Trib when you left I just can’t break my love of physically reading a newspaper. The DH offers local news & the AP, WaPo & NYT articles make me laugh. Since they keep offering me ridiculously cheap subscriptions, I renew. Then I’ll use the newspapers as packing material when I can finally escape IL.

  8. This Kass account of the death of journalism ranges colorfully — from hyenas (bloodthirsty but forthright) to Chicago Democrats / mobsters (merely bloodthirsty).

John’s range can inspire a reader. Today’s column transported me to the Russian newspapers Pravda (Russian for “the truth”) and Izvestia (“the news”), and the old joke told on Russian streets: “There’s no news in Pravda and no truth in Izvestia.”

See what the hyena-like Chicago guild Democrats have made of its two newspapers, both still publishing like Moscow’s two. Is the Tribune of 2025 still a tribune, “a champion of the people”? Is the Sun-Times a sunny vehicle of timely news? Sure they are. And the White Sox and Mayor CTU are doing just fine.

  9. When the elitist salons along the Acela Corridor fail to exist any longer, then we’ll know that replacing intellectual curiosity with Jacobin party purity tests have successfully consumed themselves. Until then, Fake Tapper, Morning Schmoe, Yamiche-Capiche and their ilk will continue to dicker about their price, without blushing, after they’ve been outed for the whores that they are!

  10. John Kass- Agree with all of your criticisms of American mainstream media but you would be more credible if you applied the same standards to the Fox news clowns and their even more dishonest spinoffs like Newsmax and OANN.

    1. Thank you Bob Lee. The Jake Tapper’s of the world are not the only ones to blame for this. Fox News, Newsmax and OANN share in the blame as well in equal proportions.

I have said before that I am in no way shape or form a fan of Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, or Barack Obama. However, I would vote for Joe Biden with confirmed dementia over Donald Trump. I still stand by that. Quite a shitty choice isn’t it?

        1. Yes, really.
I agree with Ed Peters here. And yeah it’s a quite shitty choice.
Shameful really. This country can and should do so much better!

          1. Yes indeed. Trump spent his first term trying to play nice with Democrats even though they continued their treacherous attacks on him and his family. Thankfully in the four years of his exile he has had time to fully vet and appoint a cabinet that aligns with his vision of our country. No more opportunists like Nikki Haley, John Bolton or traitorous scum like Comey, Brennan and the other rats in our intelligence apparatus sabotaging his agenda. Best of all NO MORE PLAYING NICE. Donald Trump knows the treasonous scum from both sides he has to deal with and is moving fast and furious in dealing with them. Leakers have already been dealt with swiftly. The rat bastard Democrats are not only back on their heels but will soon schism as it destroys itself from within. The Lunatic Fringe taking it over will cause that party to split, much like the Episcopal church did when it’s Lunatic Fringe started to take over that institution. Yet the American media are like a band of hyenas hiding in the tall grass after taking a beating from a lion. Trying to regroup, licking it’s wounds and waiting for its moment to attack again. American media has deservedly earned its place for lying, untruthful reporting. Its pity party from the last few weeks have been rejected from the American public. ABC, NBC and CBS have been pretty much revealed to be partisan hacks. I watch none of their programming along with their “news”. All are hilariously bad. Print media is worse. If you want to read biased reporting just look for the source of the story. New York Times and Associated Press are the usual suspects. I went to a high school graduation here in Texas the other day. They always start the ceremony with celebrating the graduates enlisting into the military. Some going to West Point. All races and creeds, truly a melting pot of patriotic young Americans. Many of these are from affluent backgrounds, their parents work in the energy industry in Houston. They enlisted to serve proudly even though their opportunities are plentiful. When you see things like this you have reason to believe this country can right itself. I know I do.

    2. I think you are missing the point, Bob. Clearly Fox and its brethren are biased. No argument there. That’s not the point. The point is that the “press” as the proverbial “fourth estate” is supposedly the “protector” of our democracy. But rather than “protect” they by and large participated in a ginormous historic conspiracy (and I don’t use that word lightly, but that is what it was) involving the WH physicians, Dr. Jill, the VP, the leadership of the DP, WH staff, and of course the legacy press, to cover up and gas light the public into believing that Joe Biden was “sharp as a tack.” The fact that some – like Mr.Peters – would have voted for Mr. Biden regardless of his (Joe Biden’s) cognitive impairment does not seem to be the majority DP view, as after the June 27th dramatic collapse on national TV of the “sharp as a tack” charade, the DP went into panic mode, and hit the reset button.

      1. I was already of the opinion that Joe Biden was well into decline. My vote was not “for“ Joe Biden or Kamala Harris but a choice of the lesser of two evils. What I’m seeing from Trump so far in the first four months of this term is about what I expected. Sheer chaos.

        1. What you call ‘chaos’ is the actual reform and change of direction that we voted for. You apparently missed the previous four years of real economic and international incompetence and chaos.

I’ll take this so-called ‘chaos’ over the mellow apathy that enabled the worst elements of the Government Industrial Complex.

          1. People like Mr. Peters have become so “addicted” to our administrative state, that they assume such a state is “normal” rather than grossly pathological. They assume any attempt to return to the original vision of our Founders – a constitutional Republic – is chaos and abnormal. They don’t even recognize that the government we have been under for the past 80 or so years is not the one originally envisioned, nor the one taught in our schools, nor the one described in our Constitution.

          2. Yes! Enrique has stated exactly what other conservatives are thinking. In saying you would vote for a Biden with senility over President Trump shows either extreme TDS syndrome or failure to realize that elections have consequences as stated by your hero Obama!

  11. I always thought that Benjamin Franklin was doubtful when he told that woman, “if you can keep it.” Remember Franklin was a journalist himself. He knew that when things started falling apart, it would likely begin there.

  12. John, thank you for highlighting the demise of what once was called the Fourth Estate and the lack of the pursuit of truth because of it not aligning with what the legacy media leaders wanted to happen politcally. It reminded me of the discourse in the Biblical account of Jesus interview with Pontius Pilate in John 18:37-38. Jesus said, “for this purpose I have come i to the world, to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is for the truth listens to my voice” Pilate ssid to him, “What is truth”. The media, legacy media in particular, has lost sight of the truth, mostly because, like Pilate, truth to them has become relative vs. absolute. The moved from pursuing truth to pursuing an agenda at a fundamental level. If you don’t believe in a real God (not one you make up for yourself or none at all) of absolute authority over the universe and time, it becomes easy to move to pursuing the agenda in journalism that suits your interests and desires. Particularly at the media leadership level. We can only “keep the republic” if we know the truth, otherwise we no longer live in a free society and might as well be under the communist oligarchy in China.

  13. I quit watching all news and reading all newspapers in 2016…and have not watched or read MSM news since then. I am on X, Substack and follow you. My point..they were dinosaurs going extinct. I wasn’t sure I would live long enough to see this day…but I did! This is the death rattle of a dying industry.

  14. As always, John, you nailed it with humor, attention to detail, and the veggie that joe is and has been for the past 5 years. Thank you from a Vietnam vet.

  15. What a column! Many have been talking about the “He’s as sharp as ever” garbage being thrown on the air, in papers, and on podcasts, but this is the most succinct, all wrapped together synopsis I have read (or listened to). All points made clearly and demonstrably correct. Thanks John. Between Johnkassnews.com and The Chicago Way, I know the score – I’m no Chumbalone, and have the hat to prove it!

  16. Seeing the hyenas and reading the intro told me where this story was going. As usual we were all rewarded with a reminder of the grim disaster the last four years and how the media covered for Joe. His “personal” physician was just that. How hard to pull an extra vial of blood during an exam, pocket it and send it to a lab under a phony name. A routine test for men over 55-60. And the autopen. Trump signs at the resolute desk in public. So much done by Biden in private. We have a right to know, but like Nicholson’s line against Tom Cruise “You can’t handle the truth!” The deep state is alive and well. Pray that 47 can course correct and the conservative voices be heard when it’s time for 48 to be elected.
On Memorial Day, yes we need to remember our fallen. Continue the effort to recover and bring them home. They gave all so we could have a free country. Sadly the corrupt have hidden a lot of the truth and lined their pockets.
On this date (25th) too I always remember a sunny Friday afternoon 46 years ago when 273 souls perished near Higgins and Mt Prospect Roads. May they all rest in peace.

  17. John,

I remember reading “the paper” on a Sunday morning, drinking coffee with my wife. After thirty years of reading the paper, I looked over to my wife and said: Why are we paying for this?

This was early into Covid, and your articles were somewhere in the paper but replaced by some other writer who insisted that the color of your skin did matter as long as it was her color, blanket statement that all people without color were racist. Cancelled immediately and no regrets.

Just hoping that the 2026 election isn’t a setback for the Republican Party. Relentless attacks while hiding the Biden administration’s failures and fraudulent behaviors.

    1. Well if Mr. Trump keeps shooting himself in the foot with his inane obsessive tariff idiocy, the 2026 midterms will be a Republican blood bath and an amazing reincarnation and “return from the dead” of the Democratic Party. As James Carville said: “it’s all about the economy, stupid.” And he has been proven right time and time again.

  18. Keep writing Mr. Kass!
The condition of journalism and government is truly appalling. But it is understandable.
As you mention the word whore. Both have succumbed to that level. Members of each side want to acquire their idea of “wealth”. Both in terms of money and in influence. Corporate media and so-called progressive politicians found each other and made their pact; damn the republic- all so they can maintain power and influence. It is so heady, sweet and titillating!
Can President Trump have a legacy after his term ends? It all depends on how resolute the likes of Patel, Biondi, Vance and Rubio are. Can they muster the opposition and keep the movement alive?
It is an uphill battle. All the more poignant tomorrow when we remember those who fought and died to maintain our republic: did they do this all in vain?

  19. Fitting that we look critically at the fruit of the sacrifice of our war dead at this time. Uniparty Republicans and performance art RINOs are only curious about President Autopen’s puppet handlers insofar as it affects the polling on their next election. No one will fix this for us, and sadly too many Americans will still run down to vote for more Democrats the first chance they get. Our heroes fought and died for something better than that.

  20. Great column again John.

The onset of turning budding journalists into enemies of our republic goes a long way back. These people play the long game with the goal of deciding for us all on how we are to “exist”. I’d say “live” but under these tyrants it wouldn’t be living.

So who has been making decisions for Joe Biden? We need that answer. We also need to see the entire Epstein List and papers of any sort. Who is being protected here? By whom?

And we need to see the House and Senate Hush Money lists. This and Epstein both seem to slide out of view with each new scandal. Again. Who is being protected here and by whom? I trust very few politicians these days from both parties.

Without accountability and consequence there’s no reason for these treasonous pukes to stop what they are doing.

  21. Excellent as always JK, and great commentary from your loyal readers, who care about the country.

Quick Eternal Rests and Our Fathers for those Americans who died and those who suffered serving our nation.

  22. Great column again, John.
If we want to strike out at Tapper, DON’T BUY HIS RAG OF A BOOK! He reminds me of Robert McNamara’s justification of escalating the Vietnam War and has doubts thousands of lives later.

Tapper is now the Face of the Gluttonous DemoncRAT propaganda machine. I’m even getting tired of Disney David Muir’s (wink-wink) ABC World News Tonight take on Journalism. His news marketing is getting old. Hey man, don’t you have any pride in yourself? How can you read that crap off of the teleprompter every night? Oh, I guess he believes it.

This weekend I will remember all those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for this Republic, especially my VIETNAM Brothers that are still dying from the diseases, and PTSD that went misunderstood for so long, and pray that this tub of lies will come out if the Republicans grow some balls!

  23. As a career sportswriter, where I long had a ringside seat to the activist/journalists as they made the biased sausage, my analogy was this:

If you have two despicable teams, each cheating to the max in pursuit of winning, you still can have a game if the officials — referees, umpires, you name it — play things straight and are vigilant against both sides.
Once the refs pick a side to favor, though, it’s game over. The sport is lost.

The media are the corrupt refs, who deserve every punishment headed their way (crashing ratings, plummeting revenues, job losses, mockery & ridicule).
The practitioners sneer at their audiences and believe they know better.

I’m glad John eventually saw this after they came for him — he tried to be a good colleague and defended the Tribune newsroom jackasses long after their abdication of professionalism was apparent to most of us.

    1. Read your bio. Very impressive. Starting out in Brookfield Illinois, then LT and Marquette … real midwestern roots. In regard to your analogy, wouldn’t you say that the refs and umpires are “biased” to the home team … that “home team bias” is real? Even if the umpires and refs are “honest”? If not explicitly so, aren’t they under subtle (but enormous) pressures to be so biased? If so then apply that metaphor to our “objective” legacy press like the NYT and CT. The home team in the US in recent decades is the political left wing.

  24. For the four years of Biden’s presidency I asked who are the people who believe he’s sharp as a tack?
My answer was found, it was the media, and sadly those who believed the media. Those that never questioned what they saw with their own eyes. They just believed as told.
What’s troubling now is what will be done? Who was the president? Who was in charge? Who used the auto pen?
If the Republicans don’t organize committees into this they will be complicit. If that happens who wins? When the next presidential race occurs who will be forgiven?
    Thanks for a great column.

  25. If CNN doesn’t fire Jake the Snake along with his horse face colleague Dana Bash, just a shill for the Democrats, they have NO credibility whatsoever. And that idiot Morning Joe can’t admit that his “this is the best Biden ever” was wrong and doubles down on it, same is true as to MSNBC.
Speaking of the biased press, how many of your dear readers know that Chicago’s Mayor proudly wore a keffiyeh lately ?? It was covered by some national press but not Chicago’s useful idiots.

    1. Now Stan, let’s not get too personal on Dana Bash’s looks. She’s kinda cute in a 3am, on my twentieth (or twenty fifth?) beer, last call at the bar kinda way…

  26. I call the current media the Democratic party propaganda machine. They are in fact just as treasonous as the auto pen manipulators. On air commentators are reading “not news” but just biased opinions of the corporate bosses. In reading some of the comments above, one of your readers said he would vote for Biden with confirmed dementia over Trump. I’d like to nominate him or the moutza of the month.

    1. Eugene- You can nominate me also because I think it’s less awful to have a diminished, feckless zombie in the Whitehouse than a dangerous, immoral fool.

      1. But is it less awful to have an historic conspiracy attempting to hide said diminished, fecklesss, zombie? IMO, Bob, you really missed the larger point of this whole discussion; perhaps due to your obsessive focus on DT. It’s NOT about DT. It’s about a real live conspiracy to hide the truth. And by the way, by the DP’s own actions – after June 27th – YOU and Mr. Peters are clearly in the minority on this (regarding still casting your vote for a senile decrepit old man).

        1. Bruce:
Heed my advice. Stop replying to Bob Lee. There is not point.
He is lost, brainwashed, and brain dead forever. He is nothing more than a delusional DemocRat spouting the same nonsense as the now-banned “Rigatoni.”
Exhibit A: He called our American rebirth, “chaos.”
          Egg prices down: chaos?
          Fuel prices down: chaos?
          Border closed: chaos?
          Illegal scum deported: chaos?
          DIE dead: chaos?
Men no longer bashing women in sports: chaos?
          I can go on.

          1. LOL. David. Bob Lee called Trump a “dangerous and immoral fool.” Mr. Peters was the one calling the American rebirth “chaos.” Both obviously are terribly confused in their inability to tell the difference between the Founder’s vision of a democratic Republic vs Wilson and his fellow progressive vision of a huge ginormous administrative state staffed by impartial, non partisan experts, unaccountable to the people. Somehow Bob and Mr. Peters actually think our present government of virtue signaling “nonpartisan (LOL) authoritarian experts IS the constitutional order of our Founding Fathers. Yes, they are both very ignorant of American political history and terribly confused.

          2. Spot on. Thanks for the advice on not replying to Lee. I’m afraid to put Mr. in front of his name as I might be accused of gender hatred!

  27. Excellent column as usual. You totally eviscerated the mainstream, legacy, radical, corrupt media, but I’m guessing that even with their innards draining out of their bodies, as long as there’s even one loony Dumbocrat ie; Governor Fatass, to promote, they’ll all still be out there pushing lie after lie about Trump and the Republicans. It’s a sad state, there is no longer a mainstream media.

  28. Starting in 1995 as a new Congressman from Iowa I went to every Memorial Day service I could. As the years went by and the WWII vets passed away the crowd became smaller and smaller. It was sad seeing them age as they stood when each of their service songs was played. Man on the street interviews show an appalling lack knowledge and appreciation of the sacrifices our men and women soldiers have made.

  29. The irony is Jake the Fake is just following the American way: monetize disaster – even if self made. Sorta a political variation of Rahm’s observation: “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste”. The question I have: why would anyone buy his book? No one is putting a gun to our heads to force us to purchase his hypocritical tome.

    1. What is needed now is a book that exposes Kamala’s corruption. There are many many statements about her saying she’s the equivalent of, “the best Kamala ever.”
      We have all heard them.
We also know that Kamala slept her way up the ladder. It is no more complicated than that.
Where is the writer who will turn over that rock? We need that book. Kamala is said to be considering a run for California governor, my home state.
It appears that we are about to replace one whore with another.

      1. David. Joe Biden is a former failed POTUS. He is old. He is white. He is decrepit. He is brain dead. He is a loser. He is at the end of his life. Literally. In other words he is of no further political use to the wise guys in the DP. If they can make a buck off him as they literally throw him upon the garbage heap, all the better. Hence Jake the Fake ‘s tome of hypocrisy. Kamala though is different. She is a black woman, with an obvious – if misguided – following. She still has high value, politically speaking. Hey, Governor Harris sounds pretty good to California Democrats. And politically speaking is highly plausible. So. No book about Kamala … at least not the one you want.

  30. Trump is amazing. Real New York City is in charge now. Love Howard Lutnick, Scott Bessent.

And then foreign policy. When both Jeffrey Sachs and Alan Dershowitz praise Trump, well there you go.

    Bright future

  31. Chuck Todd and Jake Tapper (God, I hate using friendly nicknames for such crap-weasels!) and others give away the game when they blame “the Democrats.” As in, “Don’t blame us, it was all the Democrats’ fault!” It is understood that they say whatever the Democrats want them to say, so if they lie, it is because the Democrats told them to say lies. They have no agency, they were only following orders. It didn’t work at Nuremberg, but maybe it’ll work now.

And, just as leopards don’t change their spots, I am sure the current journalist confessions are directed and approved by “Democrat Central” … probably hoping to restore some credibility before the mid-terms. That may sound cynical, but I usually learn that no matter how cynical I try to be, I was naive and the truth is much worse.

To slightly twist an old joke, if ethics were gunpowder they wouldn’t have enough to blow their noses.

300 years ago, they would all go off to monasteries and nunneries, such would be their shame, and their need to get right with God and atone for their sins. In some ways, a better world than today, where they cash in with book deals.

  32. Γιάννη,
Journalism died long ago when you left “the paper!” And we are all better off since, thanx to your insight and wordsmith talents!

  33. …………….Perhaps your best piece ever John.
It is the best example, so far, of EXACTLY why I chose to subscribe.
You have a gift. God bless.

  34. Bruce Kleinman, Steve Aschburner, Enrique Diaz, Eugene Karczewski – I don’t think I’m missing the point of this article. I mostly agree with it. I’m simply calling out the hypocrisy in so many of John’s articles and the ensuing comments which inevitably follow.
You all rightfully call out the sins of a particular politician, or party, or news organization which is commendable. But then you turn around and endorse things that are sometimes even worse, only because they are committed by your favored team. A prime example would be Trump’s behavior following his 2020 election loss. In that case Fox News, most conservative media, a few of Trump’s crackpot attorneys, and the vast majority of MAGA followers went along with all the lies and deception. All of this in spite of the simple and obvious truth- Trump lost a very close election in 2020 just as he won a very close election in 2016. Fox News later paid almost 800 million dollars to settle out of court because they realized how badly they would fare in court. The damage to our republic due to that particular organized deception was immense and continues to this day. There are many other similar examples.
I think “John Kass News” is a valuable and interesting site. But without a few dissenting opinions it devolves into nothing more than a self-righteous echo chamber for like minded people. And that is not a good thing.

    1. Really? Can you point out the comment I made, whereby I endorsed Mr. Trump’s or Fox news’ behavior regarding Jan 6th? Your problem Bob is you’re all about “what aboutism.” And of course like all the other self righteous sanctimonious “my-shit-don’t-smell” liberal partisans only YOU define what is right … or wrong. So let me put it to you so you can understand if possible. Whether one condemns Jan 6 – or not – does not change the fact that the Biden “sharp as a tack” health care gaslighting by the legacy media was the biggest presidential health care conspiracy since Woodrow Wilson. Somehow if that is not a singular concern in and of itself, then I don’t know what is. Oh by the way Bob, if you’re worried about “echo chambers” there are a ton of ’em expressing the exact opposite points of view as expressed here on JohnKass news. Many of us can chew gum and walk at the same time, meaning many of us can hold different viewpoints depending upon the subject at hand. So I would not be too concerned about “equity” regarding political view points.

  35. My wife & I visited the San Francisco National Cemetary @ the Presidio yesterday. What a site to see all the grave markers & flags everywhere. Today they have events all day & the officers club is open to the public. Truly a great National Park. The saying is true. “All gave some. Some gave all.” Thank you to those that never had the chance to marry, have children, raise a family & experience a full life after living & dying for this country. I am sure your reward in heaven is great & we have not forgotten you.

  36. Yes, John Kass, the hyenas are the most “endearing” characterization of present day MSM “reporters”….certainly not journalists.
I remember my days in Catholic grade school when it came time for Memorial Day. We sold poppies as so many others did and created posters that brought the poem In Flanders Fields to life. I will attempt to include it here.

So many of your words are worthy of repetition and thank you for that John Kass. May God continue to bless all of us with your presence….especially Betty and your sons.
    Tom

  37. On 5-21-2025 USA Today Opinion Column, Nicole Russell writes :
Dems lied on Biden, who would trust them?
On the same page, ex Tribune Columnist Rex Huppke, John Kass’ former colleague writes:
Biden is out of Power; Trump is in. That’s where the focus should be!
He posts a happy picture of Biden & Jill next to a tragic looking picture of Trump!
And of course, lots of people would buy his “smart stuff”

    1. Exactly. Many of my liberal friends say the exact same thing: “Biden is past history. Water under the bridge. Trump is in the WH and that is where our attention should be.” Yup. Move along. Nothing to see here. (What’s a little conspiracy between friends, anyway? No biggie).

  38. Thanks for another great column, John.

I’ve been thinking about how my whole life I’ve heard the adage:

“If you want to commit the perfect crime, do it alone and don’t ever tell anyone.”

So, how many people in Biden’s orbit knew he was unfit to even run in 2020? Not a few, or a dozen or as time went on maybe hundreds? How could they keep denying what I could plainly see? What the world could see?

I watch MSNBC for an hour every day just to see what they are lying about. Or more importantly what they are not reporting at all. Are there any channels that people can watch that will simply give “News”? And by that I mean “the truth of what is happening.”

  39. Great column. You speak the truth. My liberal friends make fun of me for watching Fox News. It’s maddening, because we seem to see and know more than the knuckleheads who watch MSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS AND NBC. As one of your readers here say, “They can’t handle the truth. “

  40. Bruce Kleinman- I agree that the Biden inner circle and media gaslighting about Biden’s health was a travesty, and those responsible need to be be held accountable. I hope the Republican Party is unrelenting on that. (Never mind that we’re currently being led by another near octogenarian that is showing his own early signs of dementia)

Your presumption that I’m a liberal is incorrect. I’m a former lifelong Republican who has gone independent due to disgust over the Republican party’s recent evolution, especially its descent into Trump hell. The party has now been so thoroughly corrupted by Mr. Trump that it’s barely recognizable.

Most of the formerly respectable and reasonable Republicans ( e.g. Mitt Romney, the late John McCain, Liz Cheney, Adam Kissinger, John Kasich) have been canceled and are now considered pariahs within their own party.

More common are the spineless variety – once respectable Republicans that first severely denounced Mr. Trump (Marco Rubio, Lindsay Graham, Ted Cruz McCarthy, Kevin McCarthy, JD Vance, Nikki Haley, . . . ), but have devolved into puppet enablers. It’s hard to explain this other than as a cynical play for power.

The whole process reminds me of the parable about the two frogs. One frog from jumps into a pot of boiling water and immediately recognizes the danger and jumps out. The second frog jumps into a pot of cool water, which is gradually heated. It doesn’t notice the danger and ends up boiling to death.

I’m old enough to remember the Jim Jones horror of Jonestown in Guyana during the late 70s. Remember it was a cult led by Jim Jones who gradually descended into insanity- to the point where he persuaded over 900 blindly loyal followers to commit mass suicide by drinking that cyanide laced Kool-aid. I always wondered how such a thing could possibly happen. I feel like I’m now witnessing something analogous with my own eyes.

Yes, there are other echo chambers that voice opposite views and I am familiar with many. I have the same critique- they are filled with otherwise good but self-righteous zealots, mutually reinforcing their personal very biased viewpoints. They are unable or unwilling to even consider opposing opinions.

That is why I’m speaking out. We have a pathological level of polarization happening within the country. Sites like this exacerbate the problem. It is not in our best interest.

I’m appealing not for “equity” regarding political discourse. I am appealing for a modicum of honesty/ integrity.

    1. Bob, R U serious? No one is forcing you to visit this site which “is not in our best interest.” So as I understand it, you seem to be on a mission from God to police such sites and bring self righteous retribution to those deplorable apostates like me who visit such sites. Got it. Man, you’d have been a great candidate for Mr. Biden’s Ministry of Truth. Remember that little fiasco? Here’s an idea: why don’t we make such sites as this illegal? That seems to be the DP go to strategy when all else fails. Then you’d have no worries at all. Here is my advice to you, since you seem to be a one way street when it comes to advice. Read, and think about the First amendment. You can google it.

  41. The sheer brilliance of this article is breathtaking. I felt like I was immersed in the past with Royko on one side of me at the Billy Goat and Kass on the other. God Bless you, John.

  42. Way back when I was growing up (50’s-70’s), at least one history class covered something called “yellow journalism” from around the turn of the century (1800’s-1900’s). I remember, as an adult, seeing copies of the first issues of the Detroit Free Press, carrying the masthead “The Democratic Free Press”. Over the years, they’ve replaced the word “Democratic” with “Detroit”, but that’s always been their slant. I just wonder if that veneer of “impartiality”, that we bemoan the lack of today, was more of a few-decade exception rather than the rule when looking at the media in general…

  43. For all the shrieking by the media of existential threats to democracy, Hitler, Gestapo tactics and mental competency of a President, the media refused to look in the mirror to see the real threat. Trump literally dodged a bullet, and we figuratively dodged one by not electing Cackling Kamala. I still have faith in the American public. The media can redeem itself, not by hollow apologies, but by action in uncovering the great scandal that they were conspirators in. Who was running the country, why wasn’t the 25th amendment invoked, and helping to define the true meaning of ” no one is above the law.” Then maybe, we’ll start to believe them again.
