Chicago Way w/John Kass: The messianic complex plaguing the city’s future
Chicago Way w/John Kass (02/10/25): Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Ald. Ray Lopez (15th) explains the special purpose room that houses a bounty of gifts on the 5th Floor of Chicago City Call and why he thinks it will take someone special to help Chicago course-correct before it’s too late. Plus, Kasso wonders who in the mainstream media will call out the ‘messianic complex’ that plagues the schools, the voters, and City Hall?

They paved Western Ave, on the North side. Great for my commute. The North Side is a great city, dream city – as long as it’s private schools. Except the post office, good luck getting any mail. I still haven’t been rolled yet here in Albany Park. I have a car no one would ever think of breaking into or car jacking so that helps keep me safe.
Maybe the Mayor is simply a man of uncompromising principle. That may be real good, if we can survive his term. My sons and all their friends can’t wait to move to Chicago. The North side at least – which is the only “city” they may ever know, before they have kids and move out.
Even when I was young, and living in Chicago I was never impressed with transient Chicagoans, who moved here knowing they would get out. They reminded me of Coastals. But there are so many more families now committed to Chicago. I can barely afford a home anywhere around here. It’s bizzare. When crime was at its all time high in Chicago, late 80s and early 90s – people were moving to Chicago in DROVES. If my taxes double again tho, OUT and OUT
Replying to my own comment, just wanted to say HEARD on Indiana people with a noticeable jump in their step, and Chicagoans kind of hanging their heads. That is kind of real. Same for Wisconsin, or for that matter, anywhere outside of Crook County
They don’t make them like Mrs. Miniver & Random Harvest anymore. Excellent choices for Valentine’s Day. I think it was Ronald Colman who was the actor in Random Harvest, not Douglas Fairbanks. Maybe it was already mentioned.
