Chicago Way w/John Kass: Count down to failure, an election story
Chicago Way w/John Kass (03/28/24): After a week off, John Kass is back with veteran political advisor at Serafin & Associates and co-host of The Crisis Cast, Thom Serafin. Along with Jeff Carlin, the group discuss how the failures at the Chicago Board of Elections have raise a lot of questions about election integrity in Cook County. Thom also previews his beloved Chicago White Sox’ 2024 season and explains why he thinks Jerry Reinsdorf’s hopes of getting ANOTHER stadium built with taxpayer’s money is pipe dream. Plus, a heartfelt tribute to the our pets.

Putting politics aside, I want to thank Thom for pointing out the importance of the most blessed holiday of the year, Easter. Sadly many people don’t understand the true meaning of what this day is all about, including many in my Catholic community. Easter bunnies and Easter eggs are all good and well for the kids, I’m leaving shortly to help my brothers with the annual Knights of Columbus Easter egg hunt, but we have to express the sacrifice of Our Lord and Savior dying on the cross for our sins so that we may have the opportunity to spend eternity in heaven with Him. Holy Week has become for me a time of reflection and thanks for all that He has given me and done for us.
Then Thom talks about dogs. I often think about the old song Mr. Bojangles and the line “his dog up and died, after 20 years he still grieved”. I’m going on 9 years since my best buddy, Shane, had to be put down. I wouldn’t say I’m still grieving but I think about him often. He was a rescue mix of Pitbull-Chocolate Lab who was very loving and loyal with a great, funny personality. He was at times a knucklehead that loved to play and swim, we had a hard time getting him out of the pool.
When the time came that we had to put him down (severe arthritis), after notifying the vet that we were coming, it actually took 4 hours for us to finally take him in. We stayed with him until the end.
It was sad but beautiful in it’s own way. Looking back, I wouldn’t have done it any other way. I’m not ashamed to say that I cried like a baby. He truly was one of the many blessings that God has given me.
I must add that I, too, am a beleaguered White Sox fan.
Our mailman was out on two weeks vacation recently. We got our mail once while he was out. That was weeks ago. This past week, mail delivery once and he’s back from vacation. All hands on deck at the Chicago Post Office, finding more lost votes
