Trump Kills Obama Democrat’s Nakedly Racist DEI

When I was a boy, I had two heroes: My dad and Jesse Owens.
Both fought Hitler.
My father fought with the Greek Army in brutal mountain warfare of Albania. They delayed Germany’s invasion of Russia, catching Hitler, like Napoleon before him, in the grip of the brutal Russian winter. He loved America and instilled that love in his family.
Owens fought Hitler another way, by publicly and irrevocably smashing the Nazi belief in Aryan Supremacy into bits at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.
A lone American did that. Owens was the grandson of a slave.
He won gold medals in the long jump, the 100- and 200-meter dashes, and the 4 x 100-meter relay. I had grown up on the stories of great Olympic athletes. Jim Thorpe, the Native American, was another athletic hero of mine. Thorpe won gold in the decathlon and pentathlon in the 1912 Olympics. The king of Sweden reportedly said “Sir, you are the greatest athlete in the world.”
I see myself in a school library, reading about Owens or Thorpe or Willie Mays. Think of cold water offered to someone dying of thirst in the desert. That was sports to me. I was a thirsty child of immigrants, desperate to not only become an American, but to be welcomed as an American, and understood as an American by the Irish and Polish and Mexican kids who referred to me as “Greek.” We met on the ballfields, and competed there. There were no participation trophies in those days. We competed. There was no consolation prize. You won or you lost and we wanted to win.
If the wanting to win drew blood, well you just spit on it or rubbed dirt on it and called the next play. And whether they liked you or didn’t like you, whether they hated the exotic food your mom packed for your lunch or not, it didn’t matter. There was always a game. That was America then.
So, how did Jesse Owens win all that unprecedented international glory?
He was the best. He was the best athlete of his time. He was the fastest runner, the most explosive jumper. He wore Adidas track shoes before there was Adidas. The gods of Olympus would have placed a laurel wreath upon his head. He was a champion.
There were no politics to make him run faster or jump farther. No speeches or cheap posturing to speed him on. No magic potions or laws to tie weights to the feet of the other runners in Berlin and give Owens an unfair advantage. In the supreme world-wide athletic competition that was the Olympic games, Hitler’s racism could not slow him down.
Immutable characteristics like race had nothing to do with it. But merit had everything to do with it. He was the best. He won the gold.
But since those days, Democrats have wed themselves to racism, by promoting policy into law that discriminates against Americans and sets one tribe against another. The Democrats crippled the black family in America, replacing the father with the ever-growing welfare state, destroying the integrity of the family. The Department of Education–a boon to the national teacher unions–was not about education as much as it was about spreading excuses and isms and critical race theory. Education was ignored in exchange for politics and tribalism.
The great American cities began to resemble dystopian hellscapes. The Democrats did nothing to reverse the slide, because they were the beneficiaries. Democrats loved it. And Barack Obama loved it.
And that will definitely cost the Democrats going forward, but they are, unfortunately, too in-thrall to Obama and his brand of Marxism to throw off the shackles he put on them.
When Trump was elected, he fulfilled his promise to chop DEI policies down, which infuriated the left and their left-wing media mouthpieces who rely on hot racism to drive their constituencies to the polls. And the tribalism was general. For example, taxpayer funded National Public Radio, one of those left wing Marxist outlets that suspended news stories that dared challenged Democrat power, was not happy.
University of Chicago professor emeritus Charles Lipson has spent decades studying, writing, and lecturing on social/political trends. He’s written on “Two Reasons DEI is Dying.”
The policy is on the run.
“The Democrats may have lost because of a bad economy and bad candidate, but they compounded their troubles with unpopular stances on key social issues. One of the most prominent was “DEI”, compulsory programs for hiring, admission, and training in many universities and corporations. The acronym stands for “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.” As Lipson writes in a recent piece, its opponents say D.E.I. really means: “Didn’t Earn It.”
A Wall Street Journal editorial characterized Trump’s move on DEI as “shrewd.” He restores an ethic of merit and eliminates a large bureaucracy:
“Mr. Trump’s order rightly notes that DEI can lead to “illegal discrimination or preferences.” It’s appropriate the President signed the order just after Martin Luther King Jr. Day. King called America to its better self—by making good on its founding promise that people would be judged on their character and merit.”
The Marxists were typically apoplectic, from Obama and their flesh-eating shrews on MSNBC and “the View.” Included among them is the oily buffoon called Al Sharpton, who demands a national boycott of companies that don’t agree with him.
He’s thoroughly intimidated newspapers. Greasy Al, the MSNBC pro-Obama cheerleader, has always been one of America’s champion race baiters, from promoting racial violence that led to innocents killed by a mob to his amazing anti-Hellenism. But I don’t think I’ll ever forget his angry stance on those “Greek homos” who bothered him.
The Marxists scream like empty-headed jays. But they always do.
The rest of us don’t like the Democrat Marxist ideocracy. We see it as dangerous and extremely anti-American. We see it as crippling. That’s why we voted for Trump.
We give them the Moutza, the classic Greek open-palm salute of contempt that we give to fools.
Then we get up in the morning and go to work, because that’s common sense. It’s what we do. We’re Americans.

Great column Mr. Kass. Excellent comparison between real abilities and forced outcome. Even though Greasy Al learned at the feet of “King of Beers” Jessie Jackson, I don’t believe his calls for boycotts will earn him the same successes that Jessie had.
John,
A wonderful column at the end of a memorable and critical week for the Republic.
Whilst November 5th was the catalyst, to see the real impact of common sense this week is beyond heartening.
Two genders, the US Flag only over Embassies and no men in women’s sports are about as basic as it can get on the road to the Golden Age of America.
Whilst I came to Chicago only thirty five years ago, I am too an immigrant and can relate to your heartfelt sentiments.
Please keep up the great writing- you gave us a voice during some dark days and hopefully you will be chronicling the good times ahead whilst keeping it real .
Thank you.
Thank you my friend
John
Just thought I’d drop you a note and tell you that my subscription payment just cleared, at the end of this month I will be canceling.
I loved reading you in the Trib, and when you started this I was completely supportive of your venture into independent journalism.
You and your followers are now slightly right of Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy. I love diverse opinion, my family has been in this country since the 1700’s when we arrived as Scots Irish indentured servants.
I’m a career police officer, third generation. For you and the President that you blindly support to pardon the criminals who assaulted my brother and sister officers of the U.S. Capitol and D.C. Metro, resulting in several deaths, and nobody says a word, is the definition of obscene.
Those officers, who were upholding their oath to defend the Constitution, were attacked, battered and beaten by seditionist criminals. If you’re okay with that, that’s your prerogative, but I’m not supporting people who don’t support law enforcement. You just lost a subscriber and reader.
The far right has now become as out of control as the far left, and both hold the values of this country in equal disdain.
That is not exactly so Mr. Tharp. In his previous column of Jan 22 this issue came up. Patrick Madden, Bruce Kleinman, Bob Lee and very likely Thomas Rudd all were appalled by Mr. Trumps Jan 6th pardons. In fact I pointed out to all, that even the very conservative but very influential WSJ was totally against these Jan 6th pardons for the very reason you cite. Please reconsider. We need the viewpoint of LE on this site.
Totally agree with you Bruce!
I recently attended a child’s birthday party. One of the children an eight year old girl was talking about her mom. She said aren’t all moms doctors? Growing up there weren’t any mom doctors in my neighborhood.
It gave me a moment to think. I am from the generation who fought for women’s rights. Same pay, same opportunities as men.
When I hear all the DEI shit I think is this us going backwards?
Thanks for your column.
Another great column John. I am pleased that a University of Chicago professor Charles Lipton has studied the DEI movement. I applaud DEI “didn’t earn it”. I can’t wait for qualified individuals to be hired once again on merit.
you’ll hear our friend Professor Lipson on the next Chicago Way podcast recording later Sunday. Thanks Susan.
Let’s also remember Ralph Metcalfe who came in second to Owens and won other medals. He later became a US rep from Chicago. Another great column.
John,
My son Michael is 25% Menominee Indian, and I remember when he was growing up thinking that maybe there might be an advantageous in life for him, but alas it was not to be. On the other hand, he is a go-getter and without a college he has attained great financial success in the real estate field. Ironically his younger brother Matthew was super smart, high IQ, and scored almost perfect on his ACT tests. Because Matt is all white Irish and German background, he could not get into Northside Prep (n0 openings for white boys-need not apply.) Regarding neighborhood sports, we had the , O’ Reillys, Di Maisies O’Rourkes, Costellos, Kanes, Martinez, and Thortons all competing on ability
Division, Exclusion and Intolerance
DEI
The Death of D.E.I.
What a blessing. Back in 2000, our very smart son was applying to colleges. A friend (who had been through the college gauntlet with his children) told my husband, “You’re a white man with a house. Your son won’t be getting any money.”
Another friend owned his own business. He told us he was scared that if a black person applied for a job and he didn’t hire them, he would get sued.
On Jesse Watters a few nights ago, one of his texts at the end said that the new pronouns should be “was/were.”
Thanks again for having this site for us all to celebrate/ commiserate together, John.
God bless your father. My dad fought in Italy. They both paved our way to a better life.
Excellent column John.
You certainly know how to hit a home run.
“DEI”
You’re fired.
Great writing as always, Mr. Kass- please keep it up. I’ve been accused of being immature for many years, and this is probably evidence of that, but I can’t wait to hear what companies Mr. al charlatan (D-Tawana Brawley) would recommend that I boycott. I will immediately buy something from each of those companies, whether I need it or not.
Μπράβο Γιάννη,
True to his promises, Trump is dumping anything that the leftists and socialists tried to ram down our throats, cause we were garbage! The “Department of Education” should be next, as it educates no one, doesn’t hold any school, university, or instructor accountable for their failures to actually teach. My Dad was my hero as well, coming here from Ikaria at 16 years of age, to forge a new life, and dream big. Henceforth, I shall add our new president to that short list of heroes as well. You, too, are included in that list – for your guts, determination and truth to the cause of freedom as promised to us all under our glorious Constitution! Onward and upward – εις ανώτερα!!!
Having lived with the entire “ merit” promotion process in the Chicago Police Department since 1998, I can attest to the atrocities of the process. When 90+ percent of your command staff has had merit promotions from the rank of Sergeant going forward, it’s a very scary thing. Knowing that the city is on the hands of someone incapable of scoring high enough on an exam of general orders and rules and regulations of the Chicago Police Department that they work for and now leading other members, it’s a very scary thing.
The entire process of promoting someone because you can without that person knowing the “ correct test answers” completely degrades the entire morale and testing process of the department.
DEI was an example of this entire process and it had the same horrendous hold with its application of rules. Companies hiring DEI officers and DEI VP’s to enforce more hiring of someone that just “ couldn’t pass the test”.
I’m from Chicaguh! My pronouns are “dose” ,”dem” and ” dey”. Sometimes “youse”…
Excellent Enrique!
LOL.
John, very good column. I have been around for awhile now, and whenever I hear terms such as D.E.I., it makes me sad. To my mind it is another excuse for racism. It is time to admit that racism has many colors. If you discriminate in the workplace or education or at the bakery, it is still racism. The idea that you cannot hire someone, or educate someone, or serve someone because they are not the right color or ethnicity should have died long before Dr. Martin Luther King. Yet it has been kept alive and kicking over all the years by the many Politicians who foster these programs.
Not everybody is skilled or qualified to be the Head of the English Department at Northwestern University, or even the Head Football Coach. Positions, from Carpenter to University President, to Waiter in your local restaurant, need to be filled by qualified people, not by quotas made up by someone who has no relation to the real world struggles of every day life.
When I see a Doctor, I want to know this is a good Doctor, not one who got into Medical School based on quotas or whatever name they want to put on it. When I travel, I want the best of the best in that ATC Tower, and the best of the best in that left seat up front. Programs and mandates such as D.E.I. is a just another fancy name for license to discriminate if you don’t like the color.
Discrimination by any other name or color is still discrimination/
EXACTLY “Discrimination by any other name or color is still discrimination”
Judge people by their character and merit. FULL STOP
Excellent column. The corporate media has forgotten what they learned from the election and are returning to biased reporting and only criticizing Trump on everything he’s doing without why he’s doing it and why it’s needed. Thank you for writing a proper article on what’s happening including your assessment of the pros and cons of DEI and expressing an opinion with an explanation of how you arrived at it. I think that’s called journalism.
My opinion of DEI is that you don’t fix discrimination by discriminating against someone else. If it’s wrong, it’s wrong.
Good thing no one’s listening to the corporate media anymore. 9 years of supposed Trump scandals driven by “anonymous sources” and 4 years of covering Joe Biden’s obvious dementia pretty much put paid what little credibility they had left.
Very good write, John.
In this vein, I hope President Trump makes a very critical examination of the rest of the toxic flow from that fetid globalism reservoir at Davos.
My second wife now of almost 20 years is Chinese. She and her first husband emigrated here under educational visas. After he passed she worked for several major corporations in her field. Once Obama’s DEI came to pass it was clear to her that DEI only really benefited black individuals who were not as skilled or productive as she. In terms of hiring and promotion it never really benefited her. In each corp where she worked the DEI VP or senior manager was African American. It in her opinion as a minority, Asians (including Indian subcontinent) Native Americans etc did not get much if any benefit. Her daughter (high achieving) and also born in China saw no benefit but some reverse discrimination in admission to college (an Ivy) or Med School or her residency. It was on her hard work and good recommendations. As a white kid from West Beverly for me it was about hard work and earning your spot.
Let’s hope DEI stays in the grave where it belongs. Putting less qualified people into critical positions does not help. Today is not the old south.
In large corporations and other institutions, DEI has gone far beyond “stacking the deck” against primarily white males with respect to job promotions and other perks. It has also become a mantra for shaming the same people being discriminated against. Really not all that different than what Chairman Mao orchestrated during his China Cultural Revolution.
Excellent!
Yeah, take that!
I also grew up with prejudices in my community, but overcame them like Mr. Kass. I didn’t cry to a democrat politician.
DEI
Don’t Expect It.
John- Absolutely agree with your distaste for the Dems “DEI” policies. Not only are they unfair, they are dangerous.
Your email address did not work. Perhaps DM me on FB at Bruce Kline.
Having spent half my medical career in the belly of the beast – VA – I actually saw how DEI works … up close and personal. For instance if you happened to be talking to a coworker and another person walked by and incidentally heard part of your conversation which he found offensive (perhaps a perceived offense against gender or race) you could be reported to HR. Of course you were assumed guilty as charged since by definition guilt was determined by the person who reported you. The HR remedy of course was further DEI indoctrination and “reeducation”. DEI was and is a clear violation of the First amendment to say nothing about due process. Trump’s EO killed it in the federal system. Good riddance. Congress should now step up and permanently put an end to it via legislation.
This is my (not exhaustive) word salad for the past 4 days that I think we can all understand and feel the joy!
Golden Age, Common Sense, Merit, America First, Close Borders, Safe Communities, Show up to work, Cut out waste, End Wars, Family and Recognize Grandchildren, Trim the fat, Accountability, Transparency, Deport Criminals, Respect Military, Fair Trade, Protect Territories, End Discrimination, End Lawfare, Affordable Housing, Man and Woman, Value US Citizenship, Fight Terr0rism, Tariffs, Reduce Tax, Pay your Fair Share, Liberation…add your own.
No wonder the Tribune forced John Kass out. He practices common sense, fairness and pro-American principles that drive lefty media meatheads to daffy distractions. Keep it up, John.
“The Democrats crippled the black family in America, replacing the father with the ever-growing welfare state, destroying the integrity of the family.”
Indeed.
I have said for years, if you were the most racist Klansman on Earth, with a burning hatred for black people, wishing to cause maximum harm, you could not develop a more destructive policy than the Welfare State. Dole out crumbs to keep people reliant on your “compassionate generosity” while instilling a sense of helpless and hopeless dependence. True evil.
