America’s Deadly Sin of Doing Nothing
Sept. 29, 2024
By John Kass
In medieval times, when people had no freedom but that which came from the hand of the king, there was a fascination with the deadly sins:
Pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, and sloth.
The artist Hieronymus Bosch and his surreal hellscapes come to mind.
But for all the concentration of the Seven Deadly sins, what about the modern 21st Century sin that has killed millions and toppled governments, inviting anarchy?
The Sin of Omission.
It is the deadly sin of doing nothing.
It is the sin of federal bureaucrats who continue to allow some 20 million illegals to cross our borders and devastate our cities, releasing among them tens of thousands of murderers and rapists to wander America’s suburbs hunting for more prey.
You can see it as Iran keeps sending killers to murder former Donald Trump, yet President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris say absolutely nothing about it, and don’t condemn Iran.
Yet Biden issues crickets—despite his hand-wringing piety about “unifying” the country—and still that senile old man finds time to show up on “The View” for a leftist tongue bath on leftist ABC, applauded as always by that network’s Flesh-Eating Mares of Diomedes.
Speaking of sins of omission, hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants convicted of crimes in their home countries are out roaming America, roaming the blue cities and the never-Trump corporate suburbs that are terrified of mean tweets. They’re looking for what they feel like taking.
Fox News Digital reported on Friday that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials sent a letter to Rep. Tony Gonzales, R-Texas, and other members of Congress this week, showing that as of July 2024, there are 425,431 convicted criminal migrants – and 222,141 with pending criminal charges – who have crossed the U.S. southern border illegally and who are awaiting removal from the country.
You didn’t hear about it? That’s understandable. Most of the legacy corporate media want Harris and the Democrats to win. And they shrug such stories off, figuring you won’t care much.
What are criminal immigrants looking for? The violent criminals among them are looking for what looks good to them. The tens of thousands wandering free are looking for women and girls to rape and goods they want to take. If you get in their way, they won’t ignore you as Harris Biden have ignored them. Some 13,000 have previously been convicted of sexual assault, and more than 10,000 have been convicted of homicide and other crimes and are roaming free in the United States.
If one of these criminals attacks an American, rapes them or kills them as has happened before to other women and girls, and the Democrats and their corporate media allies ignore their stories, what would you call that?
You’d call it the modern American bureaucratic sin of omission, politically applied. And the victims? Media and the Biden Harris people just shrug. Maybe they’ll make a speech about how their values are your values.
Harris visited the border the other day for a photo op, wearing a military cut jacket and a reported $62,000 gold Tiffany necklace to demonstrate her concern, telling voters that she truly cares about the border and that she’ll impose a real crackdown on the border–and presumably on the tens of thousands of murderers and rapists that Biden Harris have allowed to go free, once she’s elected.
Her corporate media lickspittles went along with the act.
“The United States is a sovereign nation and I believe we have a duty to set rules at our border and to enforce them,” said Harris who looked the other way for almost four years now. But now, she cares?
Only Caligula’s Horse would care more.
And you can see the sins of omission in the quiet anguish of the parents of our 100,000 or more fentanyl dead, in their blank stares, the China made drug fentanyl smuggled into the U.S. by the Mexican drug cartels over the wide open Biden/Harris Southern border year after year.
You see it in the clown-show that is the leadership of the U.S. Secret Service, as brave agents are overwhelmed by inept management unmasked by two recent successive assassination attempts against Trump.
The weakness of leadership brilliantly illustrated here in this interview by Chicago’s legendary conservative Dan Proft on his “Counterculture” podcast and by the apolitical Susan Crabtree, reporter at Real Clear Politics who has been covering this Secret Service story for years. I hope you listen to them.
And for all the precious whining from Democrats who wanted Trump to stop those mean tweets, know that at least 25 percent of Democrats wanted him assassinated. Isn’t that a sin?
How do the government high priests of this dangerous sect that would lead to murder and anarchy move to accomplish their goals?
How do they kill and maim and hurt? How do they destroy nations and allow serious corruption to flourish and metastasize? How do they seed madness and anarchy, the same kind of anarchy that you watch in the big Democratic cities when corporate titans shoveled millions upon millions of dollars at Black Lives Matter?
All they must do is one thing:
Nothing
It is the same nothing applied to the American border as the invaders were allowed to cross with impunity.
During the Black Lives Matter riots of 2020 where cities burned and businesses were looted and destroyed and police officers murdered, the hard left in America, the Communist hard left kept shouting its favorite slogan “Silence is Violence.”
But the hard left and the Democrats were silent as the cities burned, weren’t they?
They were silent as conservative Republicans were silenced and harassed and threatened by merely offering a dissenting point of view.
Their complaints were ignored by corrupt corporate media that kisses its own behind.
They told us that “Democracy Dies in Darkness” even as they condemned brave Miranda Devine and the New York Post for reporting on the infamous Hunter Biden laptop, aka The Laptop from Hell.
These are the men without chests, who do nothing stand up against the bullies, release the killers out into the suburbs where the people have become soft, where they are largely incapable of hammer and tong defense. These are the true fascists who would use their power and civil authority to shut down dissent.
“We make men without chests and expect from them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors in our midst” is from C.S. Lewis’s 1943 book “The Abolition of Man.”
When my sons were young they knew C.S. Lewis only as the author of “The Chronicles of Narnia” and later they thought of him as the professor in the great old house of that magical wardrobe that leads to the land of Narnia.
But he’s written so much more.
Now when I think of the men without chests I think of people like Biden and Harris who have allowed the killers and rapists into the country.
And I think of the man who is responsible for the U.S. Secret Service, who never raises his voice to demand accountability in that rapidly failing agency that will be responsible if Trump or other leaders are assassinated, the hairless eunuch who was instrumental in not guarding the wide-open border so beloved by all the narco and sex-traffickers who have made billons of dollars from the sorrow of Americans.
Who is that man? The high priest bureaucrat of the sin of omission?
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
There is one thing the men without chests won’t abide. They will gather all their allies who’ve ignored the border, all those journalists supporting the Democrats who’ve wanted you to avoid the American fentanyl dead, and the 20 million illegals who’ve broken the law crossed into the U.S., with killers and rapists among them. What binds all these bureaucrats, politicians and journalists allied with the current regime is something they cannot allow:
What they won’t allow is Donald Trump winning re-election in November. They smiled at him once, and he was inexperienced. But he knows who they are now. And if he becomes president, he will reach them. And that they can’t abide.

Excellent JK.
Evil knows no age. Biden, Pelosi, Mayorkas are all supposed to be elderly statesmen. Leaders who care about their people. Bunk!
What they really care about is power.
They use that power to wreak havoc on
America. No sane person would allow criminals, terrorists, rapist’s and insane asylum patients to invade their homeland.
Kamala was in charge of border and intentionally disregarded her responsibility.
They wear the jacket for the mess that the country is in now. Not Trump.
“Harris visited the border the other day for a photo op, wearing a military cut jacket and a reported $62,000 gold Tiffany necklace to demonstrate her concern, telling voters that she truly cares about the border and that she’ll impose a real crackdown on the border–and presumably on the tens of thousands of murderers and rapists that Biden Harris have allowed to go free, once she’s elected.”
Sadly the AWFLS (affluent white liberal) of both genders care only that the nicely featured and stylish woman who says nothing, does nothing and cares even less is the right person for whom they will cast votes. Beverly, east of Western Avenue, the lakeshore, the tonier suburbs will never swing to the Orange Man.
The do-nothings who collect pensions will stay at home and tee-up at BCC, Edgewood and other links and jaw about the markets.
We must pray that the people who actually work for a wage show-up at the polls, vote hard and hit shoulders of those who should vote, but are squeamish.
God help this nation,
Brilliant essay, John!
What does it say about this country where about half of its citizens support and will vote for Harris even after what has happened in the last four years.
That in my opinion is what concerns me the most. It is beyond doing nothing. It is purposeful blind apathy!
Agreed!
We are also a country where a large percentage of registered voters won’t even bother to vote.
Great point. To me it says that half the nation are plainly turned off by DT’s character and behavior. That is the inconvenient truth. It says half the nation would likely respond to a candidate who addresses some of the issues Kass mentions – and others brought up during the debate – rather than waste time on rumors about eating dogs and cats. And sadly it says that Republican candidates such as Haley or Youngkin (or perhaps even DeSantis) would likely result in a Red landslide this November. That is what it says to me. The Republicans have made a huge mistake in going with DT when the WH is there for the taking.
Unlike the Democrat nominee Trump was elected by the people to be the Presidential candidate for the Republican Party.
Key phrase by the people.
Your candidate represents the appointment of a select few.
A RINO candidate might win “ by a landslide”
but would not change a thing.
Anyone being honest knows Trump will win in November, that being said can the opposing party cheat enough to put the Marxist in?
We shall see
Of course they can. Remember after November when you will be referring to Comrade President Harris that: “Perfect is the enemy of good.”
….and therein lies at least part of our problem. Who is to decide who is a RINO? Who sets the standards and decides who is ‘good enough’ and who didn’t ‘pass the test’? Our Democrat friends long ago figured out how to win….they accept anyone or anything that is willing to put a D. behind their name and sort it all out later – – – as WINNERS! You can’t find two more different people than Nancy Pelosi and AOC. While Nancy was Speaker, what did she do? She smiled, nodded, patted AOC on the head, and enjoyed her majority. The Republicans look at things like “well, a couple of years ago this guy said something that hurt my feelings”, or “…there was the turn of a phrase back when she was in the state legislature that made me not sure….” and so the ball rolls. They win with their polyglot of ideas, and Pelosi and Obama are still driving the bus. And we decide whether or not we’ll vote for our guy, because (pick something). What do we do best? Whine because we didn’t win – again.
They win because they will do anything for power. Including cheating.
I agree. Republicans had better choices in the primaries, and we would have easily win the presidency with one of them.
If Mr. Trump had spent the past four years writing position papers and op-eds, making speeches, and so on—in other words, behaving like a statesman instead of a name-caller—he could have presented himself as a serious candidate, not just an anti-Democrat one.
Perhaps President Trump didn’t spend the last 4 years acting like a politician. But you see, that’s why so many of us “love” him. I mean, what good have politicians done for this country in the last 30 years? Trump may be rude and crude but he gets things done. It’s silly to get so caught up on his slurs and childlike behavior when I bet if you unmasked the Obamas of the world, they would be more offensive.
What does that half of the nation think about KH’s scandalous rise to the top and Joe’s lucrative influence peddling? Apparently Mr. Biden’s and Ms. Harris’s lack of character and despicable behavior is acceptable to them.
As long as GOP is anti abortion and guns they will never win another presidential election. This country is controlled by the 5Ws: wealthy, weighty, woke, white women. And they rule with an iron fist the Democratic party. The GOP is stuck in the 1950s.
Ha Ha. Sadly, you might be right about that. Still there are so many issues DT could have addressed – and one that truly resonates with tens of millions … illegal immigration – but he chose to focus on an unsubstantiated rumor regarding immigrants eating dogs and cats. I mean really?
I personally believe what he said about that. Dog is served in Chinky Charlie China. But we won’t point that out becuz most of what we buy is made there and we don’t want to upset our future ruler country.
To Thomas:
Yes I agree. I was aware that tens of millions eat dog for lunch. So I did not initially dismiss the accusation out of hand. However, before you make such an accusation in the US – which is like going nuclear – you better have solid evidence. Trump and Vance had none. After all Americans love their dogs like their family so much so that killing a dog took down the Gov of South Dakota and Beaglegate – not anything else – will likely take down Dr. Fauci.
What it means to me is there are enough people who hate Trump enough to just vote for whoever opposes him.
A reasonable Republican candidate would crush Harris on the Biden record alone.
People are very tired of the Trumps and the left will lean on that.
Still, if looks like a toss up.
Yeah. Agreed. When I talk to many of my friends and neighbors and mention “wonk” like stuff like “price controls” “taxing unrealized capitol gains” “assault on the Court” the support for the overwhelming “regulatory state” etc. etc. none of this stuff matters in the least. What seems to matter is the visceral hate for DT which is enough to make what should be a Republican landslide into a toss up.
You’d be better off with no friends, than hateful friends.
In a little over a month we can begin to do something about it…..but a lot can happen in a month! I suspect that a lot will. Excellent column – why I subscribe!
The problem is that when something happens that rocks the façade of Harris/Walz, too many early votes and mail-in ballots will have been cast.
The glaring local example of what happens when a large percentage of registered voters don’t show up….. is Chicago’s current “mayor” ! ! !
The reality is this makes not an iota of a difference in deep blue Illinois where the Presidential outcome – regardless of mail in votes … or not – is already determined. That is the hard math of the electoral college. In fact this election is a referendum in a mere six (or at most) seven states … and Illinois ain’t one of them. Local elections are not subject to the electoral college, as you know, such that one’s vote – as small as it is – is meaningful as demonstrated in Cook County by the defeat of Kim Foxx’s “chosen” successor. (By the way, I totally support the electoral college, but that is the unvarnished reality for this election).
I don’t like Wisconsin, but I’m tempted to move there just so my vote would count.
After the Coronated One’s border visit on Friday, I’d say the facade has been destroyed.
John,
It seems unrealistic that maybe 95% of todays journalists refuse to tell the truth to the American people. I don’t know how many journalists there are in America, maybe thousands? Are they under death threats or forms of blackmail? If so, from who? Maybe I’m just a conspiracy theorist.
I just don’t understand how anyone with common sense can vote for this empty suit and her commie running mate. They are not even hiding their socialist/marxist agenda anymore and no one in corporate media calls them out.
It discourages me to see all the support for her in my neighborhood with their lawn signs. I’ve lost friends and have had arguments with close family over this but I’m tired of getting all the push-back from the democrat point of view. It’s a constant barrage of lies and these people believe it. I pray that I’m wrong but I think she is going to win.
Joseph, your response has the answers on the journalists and voters who vote for Harris: they don’t gave “common sense”, which us in short supply in this nation. Instead, they’ve been trained in Cognative Dissonance and live media distracted lives – they are sheep or feudal peasants led by the elite class that want to maintain power. It’s the road to an oligarchical form of fascism, and they cannot see it because they either have forgotten history or were intentionally never taught it!
I say send the entitled brats who were born with a silver spoon in their mouth and their elitist liberal parents to ANY Latin American country (except for Argentina) for a month. Then we’ll see how quickly their “hatred” for DT disappears.
You make a cogent point. Argentina is now a very interesting real time experiment: marxist socialism v free market capitalism. I did not think President Milei had a chance to succeed given that the Argentine administrative/regulatory state makes the US equivalent look like a bunch of minor leaguers. But much to my pleasant surprise President Milei is so far succeeding. His biggest victory (NY and Cali should take note) is the elimination of rent control releasing the now booming rental and real estate market.
Well said John. I recently read there are three ways in which anyone can react to a given situation by being complacent, complicit, or courageous. Complacent certainly is the current state of the individuals and actions you write about this morning. Complicit are the legacy media outlets and the faceless bureaucracy of an unaccountable and unelected administrative state. So too are the houses of Congress who do not govern but delegate to the faceless rule writers of those agencies and rely upon executive order, no longer deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed but rather propped up by the tribalism of special interests and ideologies of identity politics. The way out is the sustained courage of the American people to demand accountability and not conform complacently or enable in complicity, enabled by the power of the ballot box on Election Day, embracing the spirit of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn‘s words to his fellow Soviet citizens before being exiled to “live not by lies” in accepting the status quo.
I have to disagree with you John, they actively supported/promoted all the things you reported. From covid lockdowns, illegal immigration, BLM riots, censorship, Inflation Reduction, defund police, Soros DAs, laptops, Kamala flip flops, and Joes mental decline, to name a few. When it blew up on them they deflected, defended, ignored, or changed the subject.
You are right. I agree. The agendas you cite were the result of proactive – not passive – interventions.
Nothing like a hard dose of reality first thing on a Sunday morning. Made possible by the clear and concise writing of John Kass.
I life time public servant shows up at a campaign event posing behind a nice big wall made of steel and barbed wire that she is vehemently opposed too. Except when protecting her. The press says nothing.
A lifetime public servant arrives at one of the poorest most dangerous areas of thy country for a photo opportunity wearing jewelry worth three times more than most people make in a year in that area. The press says nothing.
Keep fighting the good fight John Kass.
Well done, John. I can’t agree more.
But I still believe just voting isn’t the answer. We’ve already had one sham election that got us into this mess and the table is set for it to happen again. I don’t think there is any way Trump would lose if there was any legitimacy involved here. The fact those thoughts are there, the bureaucrats, the deep state, the media, the narrow minded and blinded athletes, celebrity and robotic following fools and there determination to fawn their agendas make the idea of a legitimate election a pipe dream.
Bleak statement ? Yep, but Joseph said it above. 20% is bad enough, 40% worse, 50.1% for a victory make the idea that so many support this crap says it all. The pols are bad enough, in a fair legitimate election, they’d be gone no doubt. But it’s that blind and foolish 20, 40, 50.1% that are more dangerous.
Kamala wants to attack corporations for alleged price gouging. So; isn’t our government a form of corporate activity. You pay money and expect a fair product in return. High tax to pay salaries of moronic politicians who have no clue how to do their job. I would say we don’t get our money’s worth.
Great column, as always, Mr. Kass. Like my Dad used to say “Be very careful what you ask for, as you might just get it”.
The folks who are responsible for a lot of this insanity, open borders, violent criminal “migrants”, etc. wanted those borders open and welcomed the hundreds of thousands of people who walked through them. This was the most thinly-veiled voter registration program ever. The problem is that now that they are here, they have brought some problems with them, like crime, violence, and things that even the (sic) “media” can’t completely ignore. They probably didn’t want what they asked for, but they certainly got it. And lest anyone think I’m “anti-immigrant”, I’m not, my Mother and her Family came here from Italy in the early 1920’s. Of course they did it legally.
Keep writing the truth, Mr. Kass, and making your Greek ancestors proud.
My dad used to say “The average American is ……..”. Use your imagination. And that was 50 years ago.
Excellent, JK. I hope you are feeling well, too. Keep this up. You are so mind-opening. The PM nightly news makes me gag.
Yes, it’s sad that the LWPM overlooks so much obvious ineptitude in HS. Thankfully, they missed him twice. VOTE, everyone.
Great column!
Men without chests indeed!
Recently it was reported that migrants want Harris to win….
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13902589/migrants-want-kamala-harris-beat-donald-trump.html
I keep thinking, aside from the political angle, who is making all that money on this side to keep allowing illegals to stream in? The Chicago way. The sin of gluttony and greed. DNC is not that smart. Soros got his fingers in other pies.
Those NGOs are killing it. Catholic Charities is making billions.
In my best Zsa Zsa Gabor voice of course darling one wears a sixty two thousand necklace to the border!
Kidding aside this month the angel moms who lost loved ones at the hands of illegal immigrants appeared in front of congress.
I watched, their stories made me cry. Rape, torture, and being left in a ditch would make the most hardened cry.
To show just how far the far left is willing to go a US rep Veronica Escobar (D) stated these moms were being exploited for political purposes.
What? Why? Excuse me Veronica your stupid is showing. Enough already! This is a new low.
Thanks for another great column.
I saw her say that at the Committee Meeting. Talk about deplorable.
Thanks John. I have a lot of thoughts in my head but need to practice putting them down on paper.
Well stated. The evil in our beloved country is more palpable than ever. It preens in broad daylight, in $62,000 baubles. Where it smirks back from the scene of the treasonous border capitulation. It is praised in its senile decrepitude on “The View”.
It challenges the rest of us to object, let alone resist.
Evil in this country is long since past pretending.
Nobody makes the case better than John Kass!
Keep it up!
America needs you.
I recall reading a column back in the 90’s by an economist that predicted this. His premise was that at the rate liberals were aborting their babies in the womb that eventually they would need to import voters to maintain the base. Here we are. The criminals and their crimes, the damaged and dead Americans, well they are just acceptable losses. The enormous new dependent underclass, well that is just an added bonus for the Dems.
And to think about our ancestors, parents, siblings, sons and daughters who have fought and continue to fight for this country. What a travesty.
What worries me in addition to the sin of omission is the sin of repeating falsehoods in hopes people will forget the truth. Listening to Harris discuss Trump’s failure on the border is appalling. Her sudden clarity on positions on everything from the border, drugs, our First Amendment, and defunding the police deserves an Olympic gold medal in gymnastics. I keep wondering when Americans will wake up from their need to believe Democrat politicians because they are pro-abortion, read off of teleprompters well, and seem joyful. Judging from the fact we have Mayor Brandon Johnson, I don’t have much hope.
Seems like most people I know voting for Kamala are really voting for the party, not her. They are avid supporters of the Green Deal and abortion Rights. They would vote for a pickle if that who was running for the Dems. Just wish we would hear more about the truth when it comes to the lie called the “climate crisis”. And I guess there are those who want her because she is a woman, and it doesn’t matter what she stands for or how she will ruin our democracy. At the risk of sounding like a Christian Nationalist, God help us!
Exactly.
John Kass:
I love the panoramic and sublime pictures that you paint for us. Some thought is required, so if you want to be told what to think, then by all means join your fellow Democrats. But, if you want points to ponder; some “grist for the mill”, then here is where you want to be.
Psychology, in this case, behavioral psychology, may help to understand why we are where we are.
Behavior is affected by positive or negative reinforcement. If you do something good, you are given positive reward to continue good behavior. If you do something bad, you apply negative reinforcement. You withhold the reward until the behavior changes.
Here is where “omissions” can really screw things up.
Ignoring good or bad behavior can have a deleterious effect on outcome. If good behavior is not recognized and rewarded, the behavior will cease. If bad behavior is not recognized, the behavior will CONTINUE and most certainly if you REWARD bad behavior, more bad behavior will follow.
THAT, John Kass, is why we are where we are. Every election cycle is an exercise in behavioral psychology.
Unfortunately, bad behavior is being reinforced, either through ignoring it or by voting for it.
Either way, it’s bad.
“Leftist tongue bath.” Classic!
Deep within the text of Thos. Jefferson’s “A Summary View of the Rights of British America” there is this epic one liner. I may get a duplicate post warning but it bears repeating.
“Let those flatter who fear sire, it is not an American art”
Except for the Democrat
John: You are the fearless truth-teller the ghastly Chicago Tribune could not abide. Thank God you are still writing.
Another good column John. Thank you.
Like Ray Kutz I have lots of thoughts but lack the practice putting them on paper. Thanks for the measured comments of your other readers. I appreciate them.
Early voting is open. I went Friday. There was a good stream of people in and out. That’s encouraging.
God bless America.
Classic John Kass. So thankful for your writings as this is the only place where I can read the truth. When I see Harris signs in the yards of my friends and neighbors I am stunned as to why they are supporting her. Not just her but the clown running with her. Others have said she will probably win and the scares the hell out of me. But I am 85 years old so if she wins, I won’t have to deal with it for long but then I think of my children, grandchildren and my little great granddaughter. They will all have to learn to fight like hell. Thank you, John, for your writings. We certainly get our money’s worth.
Ahem, may I correct the wise and patriotic Kamala Harris…we are NOT a sovereign country since you and Joe stepped into office. You have ERASED our sovereignty. The only chance of getting our nation back is by electing Donald Trump. Thanks as always for an insightful column, John.
It’s all part of the masterplan. The government disarms the populace rendering self protection impossible. Set the criminals loose upon the populace making them beg the same government to protect them from the same criminals the government unleashed upon them. This plan was used upon the Jewish population of Germany as Hitlers Brownshirts terrorized them into thinking Hitler would protect them by creating “safe spaces” that we now know as concentration camps. Soften them up so they march onto the trains willingly. I know, I’m a conspiracy nut but isn’t it ironic the new buzzword among the Democrats is the word “JOY” being attached to the Harris campaign. It’s all about “JOY”. Don’t you get it? The Nazis had a term for that. It was called “The Joy Division”( NOT THE BAND). It referred to Jewish women who were kept alive to be raped by their nazi captors in the camps. ITS ALL ABOUT JOY. GET IT?!!!!
John, Have you given any thought about the democrats playing the long game on the boarder situation. It seems to me that 20 million illegals are not likely to ever get the legitimate right to vote. But any offspring born here are automatically granted citizenship. I’m not sure that many of them will vote for the republican party. So in one generation there will be millions and millions of additional democratic voters. That’s a scary thought.
Wonderful column John! They truly fit the “men without chests” description penned by C.S Lewis! I do agree there is a sin of omission involved with some, but some of your audience comments are also correct that, for some of the elites involved it isn’t omission, it is very intentional. The omission is certainly on many of the voters who will vote for Harris, because they dislike Trump so much or don’t bother to think rationally- hence my take that many of the almost 50% saying they’ll vote for Harris live lives of Cognative Dissonance. Trump doesn’t actually encourage rational thinking well either, which is part of the issue in this election!
C.S. Lewis wrote many other excellent books that, like Orwell, speak strongly to our times. Buried in his try at science fiction in the Space Trilogy series he describes the alignment of the academic elites/scientists, bureaucracy and media as they attempt to take over England in a battle of good & evil. Eerily similar to what we’re seeing today in some ways!
Baby boomers have been well versed in world history.
As the last of The Greatest Generation dies, I fear the same for their history.
We KNOW what happened to the Jews, Catholics, the physical and mental handicapped or anyone who threatened “the white, Aryan race. It took WW II to stop the evil.
But, look back at WW I and why is started: The assassination of Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand on 28 June 1914 set off a chain of events that led to war in early August 1914. The assassination was traced to a Serbian extremist group that wanted to increase Serbian power in the Balkans by breaking up the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Are we about to repeat history?
John, great column…Were you aware of Trump’s remarks yesterday from his rally in Wisconsin? It seems his rally had to be changed from the airport, outdoors, to a auditorium holding 1900, leaving 40,000 outside. And you ask WHY? It seems his USSS entourage was taken apart and over half of them went to NYC to, are you ready, PROTECT THE PRESIDENT OF IRAN FOR HIS SPEECH TO THE UN….You know, the same guy posting a reward for the death of Donald Trump!
Biden, Harris, and their cohorts of Blinken and Garland along with a few other Ds, are truly enforcing what ever they can to extinguish him from the campaign and from Earth.
Yes, I am pissed and our Illinois General Early Voting starts on October 21….yes, I am going to vote early and then relax….too old for much of anything else.
God bless you John Kass and congratulations on your move to Real Clear….do well and be well.
Tom
To any man contemplating voting for the worst vice president in history – DON’T! “The dude abides” is not applicable here in 2024!
Usually when you stand by and do nothing and let things go to to shite, one or more of the following are true about you:
1. You don’t know that something is wrong.
2. You know something is wrong but won’t admit it.
3. You know something is wrong, you admit it but it’s not important enough to fix.
4. You know something is wrong, admit it’s wrong but don’t know how to fix it.
5. You don’t think anything is wrong.
Ms. Harris has progressed from 1) through 5)
I decided to look up how many illegals have come into USA. I found a reputable site, i believe: Pew Research Center. I WAS GOBSMACKED, from 2005 thru 2022 AN AVERAGE OF ALMOST 11 MILLION A YEAR. GOOGLE: What We Know About Unauthorized Immigrants Living in US/Pew Research Center
Thomas: I hope you are not implying that from 2005 to 2022 there is an average of 11 million new illegals every year. If so that is incorrect. The graph (Unauthorized immigrant population in the U.S., in millions) merely shows the illegal immigrant population from year to year spanning years 2005 thru 2022. Yeah, still a big concern none the less.
My minimally educated father used to tell me in times like now “there are more horses asses than horses” how true.
