First, every country in the world and even our own precious indigenous native Americans kept human slaves as part of their society in human history, we are not unique, however, “all men are created equal” has been the lynchpin of our county’s moral, political. and societal evolution.
Second, Chicago’s decline as a great American city has been underway for quite sometime, to quote our late great local Ernest Hemingway, “bankruptcy came gradually, then suddenly.”
“Under the terrible burden of destiny laughing as a young man laughs” (Sandberg), however, we laugh no more as older men John and Jeff, “suddenly” is upon us.
