The Chicago Way Comes to the North Shore!

By John Kass

Did you read that headline? Is it true?

Yes, it IS true—the stunning breaking news about the Chicago Way going up to the North Shore isn’t fake news. It’s 100 percent accurate.

Let’s hang out together, you and me and the author and journalist Matt Rosenberg. We’ll eat barbecue and talk politics, culture, food, just about any topic you wish.

It happens on Sept. 18, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event is scheduled at a private home in Wilmette, so once you purchase your tickets, you’ll get the location. We’ll be there together as part of a live event hosted by New Trier Neighbors and Wirepoints. Tickets are available online at either group.

We’ll have a barbecue dinner and I’m all about the spicy sauce. But understand, we’re not meeting in a great hotel ballroom or ballpark. And tickets are limited. So get your tickets soon, before they’re gone.

I loved working at “the paper” for some 40 years, except at the end, and if you want to talk about that drama, we can talk about it, or almost anything else. But now I really and truly love this new adventure at johnkassnews.com that many of us are on together.

But whether in corporate or independent journalism, what I really miss talking face to face to readers and listeners. And Matt Rosenberg just loves good conversation. He grew up with conversationalists. And Matt used to write at johnkassnews.com. I loved his stuff.

Rosenberg was so good that Wirepoints snatched him up. And all Illinois taxpayers are better for it.

There have been a lot of changes lately, with more to come. My shoulder’s still killing me, I’m sleeping upright in the man chair, the midterm elections approach, Gov. J.B. Pritzker hopes voters won’t ask about his killing of cash bail in Illinois, and the main event in Chicago, the campaign for mayor, upon us.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot is overwhelmed by events, including violent crime, as the great city of Chicago resembles the dystopian film “Mad Max” more than the City That (Used to) Work.

Texas is sending busloads of migrants to Sanctuary City Chicago. And she doesn’t like it. She’s screaming racism, her default position.

So, there is a lot going on, and we can take a few hours, over barbecue, and discuss it all together. I know Matt Rosenberg is looking forward to it. And I’m looking forward to it.

I hope to see you there. Some might think it a long way from Northwest Indiana and 52nd and Peoria. But distance doesn’t matter to me. I want to see you.

We’ll have fun.

But wait. Weren’t you looking for a Chicago Way podcast? Yes, I think so.

The podcasts are free, and when we started johnkassnews.com, I promised that I’d send podcast notices–(think of them as free mini columns)  via email to all those who signed up here. As you’re reading this at johnkassnews.com under “podcasts,” so where is the podcast?

Here. to listen just click on the button in the photo at the top of this column or click on the Dan Proft podcast column, and his battles with Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Gov. J.B. Pritzker and that stellar ad they and the media hate for good reason.

It calls them out for all they haven’t done to stop the growth of violent crime.

Either way I know you’ll figure it out.

Thanks for listening and reading. Hope to see you Sept. 18
