Chicago Way w/John Kass (03/24/25): John Kass & Jeff Carlin tackle Chicago Mayor Brandon calling himself the second coming of Harold Washington, his campaign donations from a law firm involved in a lawsuit with the city, & how begging for a 3% kickback from city vendors is working out. Why do I get the feeling that this latest “scandalous ” leak involving the leader of Trump’s Defense Department was an inside job reminiscent of numerous sabotage attacks on Trump’s first administration. It so happened in this case that an avowed perennial media enemy of Trump, Jeffrery Goldberg, with a history of false allegations against Trump, was included in a sensitive leak, come on man. When I see the usual mainstream media leftists’ suspects, including Hilary, now jumping on the media bandwagon expressing their outrage, it is the old and tired playbook. Come on John and Jeff do not bite, you are too smart for that. Let it play out a bit.
When I first saw people suggesting this might be a set-up, I thought, “Oh, c’mon.” Then I remembered the way the Democrats and media created a ridiculous bulls**t firestorm around Mike Flynn (also National Security Adviser and hence not stoppable via the confirmation process) in early 2017. That led a naive Trump to fire him, and leave Trump with nobody trustworthy on his senior foreign policy team.
So, yeah.
General Sherman was caught by surprise at Shiloh in 1862 as was US Grant; Admiral Turner was in command, but absent, at our greatest defeat at sea at Savo Island; none were removed. Admiral Nimitz retained almost the entire Pacific Fleet Staff after Pearl Harbor. Many very capable leaders began their career with a major screw up only to perform superbly afterward; the number capable leaders who were lost to service because of one error is unknowable. Reportedly no classified materials [as opposed to embarrassing ones] were leaked. Let’s hope the officials involved learned as much from this as the above mentioned learned from theirs.
Regarding Nimitz– as a young officer he ran his first command aground. In today’s Navy that would have been a career-ender. Fortunately he was granted another chance.
Didn’t know that! It might explain his rather wise decision to retain all of those trained, experienced officers responsible for the Pearl Harbor disaster. I remember when the Bayway refinery in Linden Blew up back around 1970 or so [I slept through it, but it cracked the window by my bed]. The man responsible – after years of surgery and treatment – was made their supervisor of safety on the assumption that no one would blow up the refinery twice. He gave safety lectures to many companies; I was at two in the late 80s early 90s.
Alexi “Polkatz” Gianoulias – epic
I will not post for a month after this. Since we brought up Sherman, yeah, he and Butler, a little chinless Philip Sheridan – men’s men, tough guys – who burned pregnant women in their beds – not to kill them, but to terrorize them – they got hall pass after hall pass.
What was it Lincoln said to a quivering Joseph Medill in 1863. It is the Northwest (Illinois, Chicago) and Boston, more than anywhere in the Union, that have brought War upon the South. It is YOU who have made the blood run as it has”
My question is then, where are Illinois and Massachusetts now – you know, we’re run by the self proclaimed “best and brightest”. Where are they today, Mr President – my President, as I honor the Oath of Allegiance to the United States. Where are they in terms of politics, corruption, and financial condition.
Right where they belong, Mr. President
I was 22 years old. I don’t remember who I voted for or if I even voted, but I know my Dad did & he caught hell from everyone because he dared vote for a black man. I liked Harold. He had a magnetism that drew me in. Not a prejudiced bone in his body. I loved his comments on local pols. Willie Lump Lump & Hocus Pocus Dominocus. I still remember the great Mike Royko column the next day, “Harold Washington doesn’t want to marry your sister.” Great podcast John & Jeff! Here’s Harold!
I think you’re jumping the gun on the SecDef and the phone text. Not any good information as of Tuesday p.m. as to who had this guy’s email on the phone and who might have included him. Give them time to scope it out. Not so sure it wasn’t a classic Washington, D.C. insider set-up. Giving the moutza to the wrong person isn’t a winning look for that Golden Award.
As to the election for the mayor of Chicago, it pretty much doesn’t matter who runs, because all you really need to do is look at the turn-out numbers that plopped BJ’s butt in the chair. Other than the CTU members and perhaps a few noble souls, almost no one voted! The Chicago voter is clearly of the opinion that it’s a done deal, so why bother? Those numbers were just plain awful….and I sense no improvement in the enthusiasm of the “city folks” to do any different in the election coming up.
