Jussie Smollett, the Obamas and the Chicago Way

By John Kass

November 24, 2024

Have you heard the one in the Chicago media about disgraced and outgoing Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx—the George Soros prosecutor zero–shouting “Karma is a bitch?”

No?

Have you read the one in Chicago media about the secret Chicago Way deal for Jussie Smollett, between Foxx, and Obamas?

No?

Well, I keep telling you to pay attention to what politicians and the media don’t tell you for what they avoid like the watchdog that didn’t bark during a crime.

That’s where you find the root of the story. And so, let’s begin with a song at the Obama White House sung by Jussie Smollett, crooning “I Got a Woman” off key to then First Lady Michelle Obama, and every note was sung without a trace of irony.

Michelle sat there giggling and clapping, as wiggly as a teenage girl. And sitting right next to her in the Obama White House was the equally wiggly and giggly President Barack Obama to see Smollett shake his hips and try to sing.

Don’t tell me you missed it years ago. Happily, American taxpayers have paid public television to record the scene, and I present it here for your Obama Christmas joy and without a shred of irony. I mean it.

What’s all this about?

Smollett has been big news lately, since the Illinois Supreme Court reversed his conviction about faking a hate crime, blaming Trump supporters, trying to ignite a race riot in Chicago, and paying two weightlifting Nigerian brothers to place a noose around his neck while blaming MAGA. His lie was that he was attacked by those “MAGA” supporters on the coldest night of the year as he went out for a tuna-fish sandwich. He fought them off (or so went his idiotic story) and kept his sandwich intact. What a hero!

The media made fools of themselves breathlessly covering it, supporting the racist slogans and the idiotic Obama- approved Ta-Nehisi logic that gave the simpering  Jussie Smollett the room, or the rope, to portray himself as a victim of white Republican racism. How perfectly simple, like a child’s wooden puzzle.

But it was all a lie.

And when Jussie was found out to be a liar, Kim Foxx cut him a deal and then her office used a special prosecutor to renege on the original deal. In the race panic and confusion, Smollett the weasel was applauded by fool journalists such as ABC’s Robin Roberts . If Roberts had honor, she’d be thoroughly ashamed. But she isn’t. She’s just another DEI media star mouthing the approved cliches.  He raised his fists to claims victory. And that bad news broke just as Foxx the noted social justice warrior thought she was covering herself in glory as she exited the prosecutor’s office.

But it doesn’t smell like glory, does it Kim?

It smells like something the donkeys make, doesn’t it Kim? And it’s all on your face, in your eyes, and mouth as if you’ve been rolling in it.

Bless you Kim Foxx.

You’ve destroyed the office of Cook County State’s Attorney, just as Mayor Brandon Johnson has irrevocably destroyed the mayor’s office. And skin pigment has nothing to do with it. But stupidity and arrogance have everything to do with it.

The case cost Chicago taxpayers millions of dollars, and more than $100,000 in police overtime to focus on the made-up story. Some of us–including former Republican gubernatorial candidate Jeanne Ives–think Kim Foxx should go to the slammer if she doesn’t make full restitution for her own costly stupidity. But that’s like wondering if Boss Toni will apologize for letting street criminals roam. It won’t happen.

Still, I sometimes think of that touching photo of Kim Foxx and Vice President Kamala Harris. When that photo was taken, Foxx thought she had a political future, perhaps pushing Dick “Bullhead” Durbin aside and becoming a U.S. Senator herself. She was running with the popular girls. And Kamala had yet to knife Joe Biden in the back as part of Barack’s coup.

Now Kim is out and Kamala is out. And Barack is still building his great temple. Funny how “stuff” happens.

Foxx’s made the controversial decision to drop the false hate crime charges against Smollett, after he forfeited his $10,000 bond and conducted community service. That move led to a public outcry, and brave retired former Judge Sheila O’Brien stood up to Jussie’s woke mob and demanded a special prosecutor. Eventually Special Prosecutor Dan Webb did charge him again and convict him.

The Supreme Court said the double jeopardy rule enshrined in the Constitution is clear: You cannot try someone twice for the same crime.

As Foxx told a local radio station: “As unpopular as the disposition was — and I don’t negate that it was an unpopular disposition of his case — it was over. ”

You don’t negate? Don’t you have any other weasel words? Kim? Nice try but as Bill Clinton would say, No Cigar.

In it’s opinion overturning the verdict, the Illinois Supreme Court said: “We are aware that this case has generated significant public interest and that many people were dissatisfied with the resolution of the oroiginal case and believed it to be unjust. Nevertheless, what would be more unjust than the resolution of any one criminal case would be a holding from this court that the State was not bound to honor agreements upon which people have detrimentally relied.”

What frosted me is that Foxx didn’t tell the truth that as the Smollett case broke and the media became even more hysterical, Foxx and Michelle Obama’s White House chief-of-staff, big shot lawyer Tina Tchen were speaking quietly, secretly and somehow–as if by magic–Smollett was dipped into the corrupt magic waters of the Chicago Way. And all his hurts were healed. And Kim dropped the charges, because as she saw things, race was everything. I assume the Obamas wiggled and giggled. They won. And justice lost.

You know what’s really unjust?

Letting Kim Foxx and Tina Tchen get away their scheming is unjust. Both still have their law licenses. I haven’t seen Tina’s name in any of the editorials about Foxx and Smollett. Why is that?

It all pales when compared to the real problems of real people, and true victims of true crime. But they don’t count. Obama clout counts. Now that Kim destroyed what remained of her reputation, perhaps Michelle and Barack will take pity and giving her a job slinging drinks at their Pritzker paradise on priceless lakefront land, the Obama Temple of Adoration and Fealty.

Will Obama’s palace resemble the Temple of the Morlocks from “The Time Machine” of the H.G. Wells story, like the photo I saw in an “X” post? I certainly hope so. The Morlocks feasted on human flesh. But Obama’s guys eat human American souls. And they smile wanly as they chew with their mouths closed. The Cook County

State’s Attorney’s office was once a great place for bright young Chicagoans to learn the practical aspects of the law. Until Foxx came, and picked up her $2 million check from the ne0-Marxist billionaire George Soros and adopted woke legal theory and failed to charge violent crime. Or organized shoplifting. Thugs stole thousands of dollars worth of goods, and there were no arrests, because Chicago cops knew there would be no prosecutions. And shoppers avoided those areas and more pressure was placed on taxpayers.

And that is how Democrat racial politics kills a city.

Foxx’s patron, Cook County Board President Boss Toni Preckwinkle and Foxx decided to shrink the size of the Cook County Jail. And they did. Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart–a political weakling reduced to a pink token on Boss Toni’s gameboard–sat obediently and let Boss Toni and Kim Foxx shrink the jail to nothing. It was no matter to them if violent repeat offenders ended up walking free for lack of jail space. It’s what they wanted. Offenders were mostly minorities and Boss Toni and Foxx knew that. And so they shrank the jail. It’s what the left wanted. And it’s what Barack Obama wanted. Obama has long been about “social justice” even though that may sometimes mean elderly minorities in Chicago getting robbed or beaten up, their hips broken. But these leftists don’t care, as long as they can demonize law enforcement.

Under Foxx the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office was the place  to twist the law to satisfy her neo-Marxist racial politics that have destroyed Chicago. She played race cards, and ran on race cards, and wrapped herself in race cards. All this left-wing Democratic racial demagoguery drove good prosecutors into retirement, and good cops off the force but the neo-Marxists of the union that destroyed my old “paper” must have been pleased.

I’m reminded me of Heather Mac Donald talking with my friend, the conservative radio host Dan Proft on his “Counterculture” podcast.

They addressed what happens to a culture when merit is suppressed in the pursuit of so-called racial justice.

“Nothing is going to change Dan unless we have an explicit repudiation of the anti-cop narrative that has been embraced by President Joe Biden, by much of the Democratic class, by political activists in cities, because cops are still operating under this pall of accusation that they are inherently racist.”

Some of the Soros prosecutors in other jurisdictions have already been turned out of office. But in Cook County, Eileen O’Neill Burke avoided the tough issues and slid into office because the Republicans continued to support a weak candidate. The Chicago papers roll into oblivion. Who reads them? Legacy corporate media is dead.

But for many victims of crime in Cook County who remain, and for some of us who stood up to condemn Soros and his neo-Marxist influence on criminal justice, there is no real change. Civilized city life has become the province of the barbarian and the anarchist climbs up on that hill to crow.

And the left-wing flies keep buzzing as a great city dies.

  1. Excellent article John. As a retired CPD, it is truly sad to see what has happened to the Cook County justice system. I went from the worst State’s Attorney in Illinois to the best, Bob Berlin, in DuPage County when I moved 5 years ago.

Then again, I’m one of the deplorable, racist, misogynist, and xenophobic retired CPD that never cared about justice in Chicago.

    1. Enjoy ure well deserved retirement Luis, not our job anymore or city.

I went to Will County when I left. Glascow is no Bob Berlin, but what bothers me the most was the destruction Foxx, Evans, Preckwinkle and Dart allows to continue to the African American improvised communities.

When we worked the job, we never had the children murdered like today. I remember Ben Wilson and Umi Sandifer like yesterday and the little boy thrown from the window at Robert Taylor. We thought they were an anomaly.

Today it’s an everyday occurrence. Violent death has become acceptable. Kids, almost babies killed on the Chicago streets, an epidemic of death.

Today as cops we cannot jump out of the car and chase on foot. How many times did we hold the revolver behind our leg and walk up to a car or group. Can’t do that any more notify Copa. I got a few guns stopping people on the Cta platforms bad guy stutter steps, makes no eye contact attempts to flee. Today be suspended by Copa for profiling.
Guys like us would need animal tranquilizer to be the police today in Chicago.
Guys like you treated the job as a vocation, you were there for all the citizens.
How many times did u kneel with a person bleeding out, saying the Our Fathers and giving dignity to a human soul, leaving the earth. We delivered the kids, and witnessed the deaths, and tried are hardest to protect the lambs from the wolves, only to be sold out by the politicians and the ogre 👹 Pritzker.

Who would think in our life time John Kass would be the only fair journalist left in Chicago…

Be safe my brother great statement.

  2. Amen John. The Obamas wanted Kim Foxx to set him free and they did just that. How sad we lost one of the most beautiful Cities on Earth to an unjust Press and Government on all sides. The Obamas lost and after the Election got on their private plane and left for places unknows. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Good Piece, John and thank you.
The Dems have owned Chicago for decades upon decades and the State of Illinois is now totally owned by the Dems/Socialists as well.
They can and will do what they want to do because they have is opposition.
The old saying is true…” Power corrupts. Absolute Power corrupts Absolutely.”
Keep writing, John, the city needs your voice!
    God Bless!

  4. “…the Republicans continued to support a weak candidate.”

You repeat yourself there, John. What other kind of Republican candidate IS there, in Illinois — and who are these R/republican voters? There’s no R/republican party in
the Land of Lincoln anymore, and if Jeanne Ives is even remotely representative of an alternative, then there is no alternative at all, really — she was/is merely a product of The Combine — a uniparty stooge (with apologies to stooges, everywhere — especially Larry, Curly, and Moe).

    1. Jeanne Ives reminds me of the little tattle-tale who points and yells at the doer of a misdeed an then waits for the next time, then the next…
Never really doing anything but pointing out the problem, but never fixing it.
In this state, if you are a Republican-and I am-you are frustrated and changing your status to “Independent”. That’s like having a tooth drilled and filled, knowing that the tooth will be pulled sooner than later.

  5. Yianni,
Inasmuch as there’s a new sheriff in town, I’m gonna wait patiently to see how Gov Maximus and Mayor Pannix deal with insisting on remaining sanctuaries for the downtrodden illegals! Bucking the feds can be painful, as funds can be withheld in an effort to force compliance. I think the mayor and governor should rethink their positions, as Trump is no slouch when it comes to a toe-to-toe confrontation. I’m betting on Trump! And as for the Obamas? They’re so over – they just don’t know it yet. And once that great temple of fealty is opened, and no one visits the south side shooting gallery, its expense will be foisted upon the taxpayers of Chicago in an effort to “keep the dream alive!” The Chicago Way (hopefully) may actually be on its way out of town, thanks to the new sheriff….and the voters that have spoken!!

  6. The Morlocks? Wow, I forgot about them from that movie when we were kids, they scared the beejejujuz outta me. Great column! Jussie will forever live in infamy, that piece of crap. Great having you on Hibernian Radio this weekend, where we honor our Irish First Responders because we know that our cops, firefighters, paramedics and nurses are the modern day equivalent of our ancient Irish mythological warriors. For those who missed it and your visit to the bunker here’s the link:

    Thanks pal!

  7. Corruption in the CCSA? In the words of that Casablanca police captain: “I am shocked, shocked there’s gambling in this place”
    “Your winnings captain”.
    “OH, thank you”.
The CCSA office has ALWAYS been corrupt. How many crooks the Daleys or Rahm put into jobs were indicted by the CCSA? Right: NONE

  8. It’s so wrong how elected officials were derelict in their duty in holding “Smollett the weasel” accountable for his actions. All animals (identities) are created equal, but some are more equal than others…

  9. Ah yes, Juicy Smollet, whom we all loved at first until our brains processed the clues, and then we said, “I’m Shocked, said no one with a brain ever!”
Kimmy surely PO’d Mayor Rahm, the Vote Machine fixer, for that move.
    What a joke.

  10. When the story of Jussie’s first encounter with MAGA on the coldest night of the year over a surviving tuna sammich broke, anyone who has lived in Chicago for any period of time and has a single functioning brain cell KNEW it was phony. Yet because of the race card (this one has to rank as one of the top examples of all time) CPD spent way more than the reported 130K in overtime while victims of real cases were pushed aside. I can hear Laura Ingram’s words in your podcast intro ringing in my ears “IT’S the Chicago way!” Any decent lawyer who aspired to true justice was eager to join CCSAO. It was like County’s ED. Where aspiring Docs wanted to study emergency medicine. No longer the case at 26th & Cal. (And no one except the woke media calls it Leighton) What can you learn there, catch and release? That only is important when fishing!
And the Obama fix was in. A classic GOOJF card. The Obama Temple will be built and aside from lefties like Dickey Durbin I don’t suspect many will visit. Glad I am out of Illinois. The people of DuPage have a winner in Berlin. I had an opportunity to work with him years ago on a case. Standup guy. Do it right. He got out too and went where he is appreciated. Keep up the great columns. Tell it like it is John!

    1. I knew it was a hoax from the get go because of the lone survivor (besides Jussie of course): the tuna sammich. I mean fighting off two thugs and somehow his tuna sammich is unmarked … still good to go. Seriously. Any one who has ever been in a street fight or simulated one in a gym knows that would be impossible.

    2. It wasn’t just the coldest night of the year, it was polar vortex cold, like -20 below. Nobody was going outside, except of course, Jussie, because he needed his sandwich.

      1. Yeah, Frank you’re right. And the inane idiots in the legacy media bought into his stupid implausible story. Proof how deep the woke contagion has metastasized.

      2. Less plausible than that was the idea that a couple of guys in red hats would know who a B list actor from TV would be and that they’d tell him Chicago is MAGA country.

  11. I think it’s fair to say that the Smollett affair has discredited one of the Obama’s & the Cook County democrat’s favorite proclamations. “No one is above the law” has been proven to be untrue (again). Unfortunately the legacy media won’t report on any of this.

  12. People of Chicago you can easily see the future of your once great city under the rule of these morons. Just look to the next big city to the east. Can you say West Gary ?

  13. Mediocre is an overstatement — With a full band behind him, he’s a no talent singer. One has to question why he was chosen to sing and the answer is that he’s connected to the Obamas and Kamala Harris. A stupid, non sensical execution of a hate crime and was this only of his doing? Were there others in lofty places engaged in this deceit?

  14. Hmmm. I didn’t know Jussie could sing. (I still don’t!) The unbuttoning of the jacket was the little touch of a signal that he is a proooooo-fessional! (OK, maybe not….)

  15. John Kass, your use of the words flies and dies in the same sentence was poetic…but I digress.
Thank you for an excellent run down of the trifecta of Foxx, Obama, Chicago Way….Your words are always wrapped with enlightenment and I am among many who thank you ever so much.
God bless you and yours John Kass.
    Tom

  16. Obama Christmas joy. I love it! Hopefully, Kamala and the Obama family and Oprah can all celebrate in Hawaii. I know we’re celebrating here at home. Bah bye 👋

  17. Can we have a legislative effort to permanently tie this racial hate crime hoax to its perpetrator, and stain him in “perpetrator-tuity”?
How about “Smollett’s Law”, whereby convicted hoaxers are fined treble damages- as well as the actual statutory penalty that would have been assessed against an ACTUAL perpetrator?

  18. The city is indeed moribund. I see no chance in my lifetime that it can recover. It is in Detroit/Baltimore death throes and it’s ugly and painful to watch. I hate to say it, but your excellent column will do nothing to change that deadly progression. Everyone who agrees with it has already left or is planning their escape. And those who disagree will never be turned by the words they will never read because they wouldn’t read your stuff even if they could read. I’m sad to see my childhood hometown die but there are even more important and still hopeful issues and places for me to focus on now in my diminishing time on this earth. Some places and issues are worth pursuing, but Chicago isn’t one of them. RIP Chi-town. “Forget it Kasso, it’s Chinatown.”

  19. John, thanks for this much needed column. This story needs to be heard over and over again. It shows just how corrupt Chicago, Cook County and Illinois all are. It’s one of the main reasons I left Chicago and Illinois for Indiana and I’m sure the same for you. Sadly, all those who need to be embarrassed have no shame and the voters who can change all of this either don’t care or are too stupid to see what is going on. Really sad.
