Independence Day, The Chicago Way

By John Kass

July 1, 2023

I’ve found a priceless photograph for Independence Day– evidence of real collusion between a president and a foreign power– and I’ll most likely use it in my column for American Independence Day on Sunday.

I talked about the photo with my friend, co-host and WGN- AM executive producer Jeff Carlin and with University of Chicago Professor Charles Lipson, who is our guest on this week’s podcast of “The Chicago Way.”

Joe Biden raises a toast in honor of his benefactor China’s Xi Jinping as son Hunter prepares to make millions in payments from foreign interests. Not pictured are other Biden Crime Family benefactors from Romania and Ukraine.

The priceless photo is of then American Vice President Joe Biden toasting his benefactor, Chinese dictator Xi Jinping at a state dinner in 2015.

The issue? What would our Founding Fathers think of Joe Biden, his crack-head son Hunter and the rest of the corrupt Washington political establishment that covers for Joe?

In this podcast, we also talk of the coming impeachment of Attorney General Merrick Garland over the Hunter whistleblower fiasco; and the landmark Supreme Court ruling that prohibits universities from using race in college admissions.

This country may have been founded by some who were plantation slave owners, but Americans fought a bloody Civil War to end the practice in the 1860s. At the Battle of Gettysburg, the farm hogs went feral and began devouring the Union and Confederate survivors at night.

And the other day, the Supreme Court outlawed the use of race in college selection and employment. That was a blow to race-hustling Democrats.

As the political race hustlers insist on being able to use racism to extend their power over the country and influence elections with their race hatred, I think of Gettysburg and sound of the hogs at night and the screams of the wounded, most of whom didn’t own slaves.

We’re not a perfect nation but we strive for that perfect union. And we are a good albeit imperfect people. And Tuesday is our Independence Day. Join us.

  1. “We’re not a perfect nation but we strive for that perfect union. And we are a good albeit imperfect people. And Tuesday is our Independence Day.”

This will be the perfect day to simply thank God that we live in this country. Those who have never been forced to live in some of the third world hellholes will never understand how good we have it.

    God bless America.

    1. Biden is a piece of garbage, a crook, a patsy, a fool. We all know this. Trump is a clown, but surprisingly, more of his own man, and that’s precisely why the establishment is throwing the kitchen sink at him. He asks what he’s signing, why he’s signing it, and where’s his taste? Biden just signs whatever they put in front of him.

Biden should not be president. He was foisted upon us by the DNC after Clinton was rejected by the voters and Bernie Sanders appeared to be the actual preference of a large number of younger voters. He ran two other times and embarrassed himself both times. He’s an idiot and a stooge. He never was a genius, but he’s clearly too old and lost whatever fastball he had. They also foisted Harris upon us, who is so mediocre it is breathtaking.

We’ve had some true idiots occupy the White House over the years. We’ve had actual racists, thieves, adulterers, closet homosexuals. While he’s terrible, it is doubtful that Sleepy Joe is the worst, though by the time he’s through, he will likely be in the team picture! History will be kinder to Trump than Biden. I truly believe that. Most of his policies actually favored America and its citizenry, instead of selling us down the river continuously as Biden, the Clintons, the Bushes, and Obama.

My question to you again, is what is the solution to preserving the Republic going forward? Is it merely to elect Republicans? How do we stop the corporate capture of our government, its bureaucracy and elected officials by the oligarchs and the corporations?

Let’s get out of this left/right, media perpetuated garbage. It’s the same thing over and over. There aren’t even that many trans people out there and we waste so much time arguing about this bull. Such a small fraction of abortions take place after the 15th week, but you’d think they’re killing babies after they’re born.

They want us to argue over Bud Light instead of the perpetual war our military industrial complex uses to siphon our money. We target and exploit the poor instead of helping them.

Where is the intellectual heft sir? I find it lacking. In your recycled columns. You write the same thing over and over again. The woke political agenda is anti American, and something that even most minorities do not endorse, yet, we hear about it constantly.

    1. i don’t take personal shots at you, but you’ve insulted me time and again. perhaps I am not your equal as a deep thinker. enjoy yourself

    2. You know something? You really are an insufferable gas bagging scold. So John’s columns don’t have enough heft for you sir? Because of course YOU are the world’s most foremost authority. But somehow you don’t have enough balls to write your own column, so you latch on to John’s. You’re an intellectual coward and world class wus. That is exactly what and who you are.

  3. Dear Mr. Kass,

The discussion with Charles Lipson was great. I read and listen to everything he says, and not because he’s Jewish, as am I, nor even that he’s a Mississippian, about which I’m fond, having recently visited my daughter there and had fried catfish for the first time (at Jackson’s wonderful Martin’s Fish House). JFK said during the Cuban Missile Crisis, “This is the week I earn my salary.” As a subscriber to your blog, Mr. Kass, this is the week you earned my payment. Best wishes, Nathan Silver

  4. John I have to disagree with Professor Lips on. He states half of the population votes Republican. I believe the facts are half of the population does Not Vote. There in lies the reason for where Weare today. If people got off their rearends and Voted We could correct the future. This would also be a great exercise of Term Limits.

    1. Gerald, the half of the eligible population that doesn’t vote? If you knew what was going through their heads, you might be grateful that they didn’t. And there’s a big portion of the population that do vote and have no idea what they are voting for. Unfortunately, this is how Democracies work.

  5. Thank you John for extending your podcast to an hour, it fits well with my morning workouts. Mr. Maitano complains of the same things you repeatedly write about all the while HE repeatedly complains about the same things you write about. Guess he hasn’t figured out your political leanings. Maitano always starts with disparaging the Democrats/Biden then the Republicans/Trump which always curiously enough ALWAYS leads to his conclusion that we need a third political party. This would certainly benefit the Democrat/Socialist state since they always vote in unison, unwaveringly. Assisted by the media which constantly push racism, culture wars, and censorship in a concerted effort to keep their
voters on the plantation a third party would most likely take Republican votes. People that the Democrats reach out to are not critical thinkers. Every one of Maitanos letters are the same. Maybe he’s trying to inspire voters to leave the Republican party. It would certainly help the Democrat Socialists. I’m sure they appreciate his efforts.

  6. RM wants you to have all his answers. Reporters, columnists don’t necessarily do that or even have them! Ok. RM, here’s the only answer an atheist like you admitted you are can easily understand: Total Global Thermonuclear War! That takes care of ALL you complaints doesn’t it. The only other option is to recognize the result of everyone’s inherited sin, thus the real issue you ignore. It’s not Mr Kass’s job to fix that, but please go ahead and pick up the slack yourself, thank you in advance.

  7. Thanks one more time John, for your writing. And I’m so glad you are mending from your health issues. Especially for your wife, sons, and family to still have you. I am a heart attack/bypass survivor as well (died for a short while) and am so blessed to have that “second chance.” Your writing the truth about Chicago and the Nation and their conditions is spot on. Also thank you for sharing Mr Lipson on your Podcasts. He is such an intelligent and nice man. I save “The Chicago Way” for my quiet evening listening evey time it is on. Mr Kass – Write On! God’s blessings to you.

  8. I am so thankful that the stroke and other health issues have not impacted your brain’s ability to formulate these insightful thoughts and put them “on paper” in such a clear and eloquent way. (Even when typing them is still difficult!) I have said this before but we need your voice of reason more than ever and I appreciate everything you bring to these important conversations. Thank you, John, and best wishes for your continued recovery!

  9. Hey John, in terms of the Founding Fathers, it wasn’t a maybe, it WAS founded mostly by slave owners who believed wholly in the “peculiar” institution and pushed their “Christian” values aside, so they could work the slaves sunup to sundown, breaking up families, and raping their children. Thomas Jefferson and 15 year old Sally Hemmings are one example. You know, Sally, who was actually half sister to his wife because HER father had raped Sally’s mother. Jefferson kept her in a small anteroom adjacent to his bedroom and had at least four children with her, who he kept in bondage. His own blood. Peculiar indeed! Yes there were brave soldiers who fought for the North, but many had been conscripted, in fact there were huge draft riots in the North, one lasting five days in NYC, with over 100 killed, and many more injured. There was also the practice of rich men, paying poorer immigrants to take their place.

Speaking of wartime and brave soldiers, how about the GI Bill, that gave (white) G.I.’s all kinds of free and discounted benefits and was credited with creating the hard working, American Dream achieving middle class that you glowingly write about so often. Black G.I.’s were left out for the most part with Red Lining, restricted covenants, no access to loans, and separate but (not) equal schools until Brown vs Board of Ed supposedly changed that.

Affirmative action? It helped Clarence Thomas for one.
John, do you have a problem with 35% of Ivy League freshman being admitted solely as “legacies?” Or because their parents make a large donation like Fred Trump did, and his son did for Junior and his brother? Or the difference between a suburban kid who is able to take AP classes, get a private tutor, take the expensive tests as many times as needed, vs a poor inner city kid who has none of those advantages? That’s what affirmative action was designed to address. Do you really think that smart white kid from let’s say New Trier, and his smart minority equivalent from the Southside, who couldn’t get into Whitney Young, or one of the “good” schools, who doesn’t have any of those resources, have an equal chance to succeed?

Do you take issue with Supreme Court Justices taking trips with, and getting bills paid by people who have cases before the court? Thomas, Kavanagh, and Alito have all refused to recuse themselves from cases involving their benefactors and Thomas’s wife Ginny, tried to overthrow the election! All good right?

The Biden’s and Xi? Sure, but what about the Trumps and Putin? Does the name Felix Sater ring a bell? VP of Trump Co, also Russian Mafia, Gold Ruble member, pleaded guilty to a $40 Million Tax Fraud, among other crimes. Who do you think was buying Trumps unsold condos? With Cash? Russians have spent $100 million alone in Trump’s Florida properties! Why did Trump have so many off the record meeting with his handler, excuse me, I mean Putin? Crackhead Hunter supposedly got what, $5 Million? Pales in comparison the the $150, to $500 Million Jared and Ivanka made while they were IN the White House, and I doubt Hunter will get a $2 Billion parting gift from the Saudis like Jared did. Anyway, keep up the Righteous Indignation, and If I see that crackhead Hunter before you do, he’s got a big Moutza coming! Happy 4th!

      1. LOL Nash and Kafer! Always wonderful to hear complaints about the past using today’s mindset. Fool’s glore replying. Ok, let’s us all go back when King’s ruled, as if they were gods, and when they told their captains to go and wipe out another nation, off they went, children dashed against rocks, pregnant women cut open so babies fell out! Brutal and brutal. This was happening all over the globe, and less but still happening today! But it doesn’t happen in America or socalled Colonial European countries. The world can thank Whites who got away from Kings rule in their countries. So just keep up the stale complaining about the White man. Hmm how many dead in Chicago and by what color of criminal? Any honest answer? The White man isn’t causing Black fathers to leave the family as they do which has a major part in black criminal behavior. But just stay in the dark, the Dark Side.

      2. Just the facts Ma’am, just the facts. Via Pro Publica: Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito took a luxury fishing trip to Alaska with billionaire Paul Singer, whose hedge fund then had repeated business before SCOTUS over the years that followed.

Alito never disclosed the trip or recused himself from Singer’s cases. Singer, a major GOP donor, wasn’t just a fellow angler along for the trip with Alito. The investor flew the justice to Alaska in a private jet.

Had Alito chartered the plane himself, it could’ve cost him over $100K. Alito didn’t report the trip on his annual financial disclosures.

By failing to disclose the private jet flight Singer provided, Alito appears to have violated a federal law requiring justices to disclose most gifts, according to ethics law experts. Additionally, Singer’s companies came before the court at least 10 times in the years after the fishing trip. SCOTUS heard a case about the fund’s long-running dispute with the government of Argentina in 2014 and ruled in Singer’s favor. Alito was accompanied on the trip by Leonard Leo, the longtime Federalist Society leader who had recently played an important role in Alito’s confirmation to the court. Singer and the lodge owner were both major donors to Leo’s political groups.

Alito never recused himself. Leo, an architect of the Supreme Court’s movement to the right, also popped up in our reporting of Clarence Thomas’ undisclosed trips with billionaire Harlan Crow. How bout a Moutza for these Chubolones John?

        1. Good old Nash Rambler.

At least you’re consistent and have learned the old lefty trick of always telling the biggest lies, telling them often, and telling them loudly.

          “Via Pro Publica”

Really? Couldn’t you find a more biased source for your (dis)information?
All the travel/trips you whine about were vetted and met the standards of reporting – as of the time they occurred.

I do realize that facts don’t matter for you, but they should.

“…WAS founded mostly by slave owners”.

          Um, no.
Maybe try looking at the actual founding fathers’ names, professions, and locations. Reading is FUNdamental.

Thomas Jefferson as the father of Sally Hemings’ children? Maybe, but the DNA results also match for his brother, Randolph Jefferson, and based on good old Randy’s (boy was he ever named right) reputation, the more likely father.

And, the biggest lie of the day: “Affirmative action? It helped Clarence Thomas for one.”

Clearly, you don’t have the first (expletive deleted) clue about how Clarence Thomas was raised or how hard he worked to excel throughout his schooling. He got where he is by being brilliant and working harder than anyone around him.

Speaking of schooling, try schooling yourself on some of these lies you apparently believe. Educating yourself just might set you free.

          1. Great response. The canard and “libel” against Clearance Thomas – a black man of enormous accomplishment – shows just how toxic Affirmative Action is and was: basically denigrating the accomplishments of successful, brilliant hard working African Americans like Justice Thomas. Thomas Sowell made this very observation decades ago.

    1. “and Thomas’s wife Ginny, tried to overthrow the election! All good right?”
Where do idiots who claim this live, where’s their hole in the sand? Ok Nash, I missed the video where Ginny held a saber as she led her troops into the Capital to overthrow the election? Please send that video, I’m sure the FBI would like to see it too! Otherwise if your older than 10, I’d say liar, liar parts on fire. Stop spewing your bias as the truth, grow up and prove yourself a MAN and stop lying! Nash was not a very good car either! Lol

  10. My oh, my

So many people in a bad mood, and so dark when we should all be celebrating that we could speak freely. We remain so lucky to be in this country.

Thank you John for doing what you do.

    Cheers.

  11. I listened to the podcast today and it was outstanding. I have really enjoyed the pods you have done with your brother Nick but the ones with Professor Lipson are the best. The interplay between you and him is simply excellent.
