Chicago Way w/John Kass: The apocryphal mythos of journalism

Chicago Way w/John Kass (05/23/23): From RealClearInvestigations & The Federalist, Mark Hemingway joins John Kass & Jeff Carlin to discuss the ‘damming Durham Report’ and analyze why media outlets are ignoring the report’s findings. Plus, Kasso wonders if the children of the future will even know the damming things the FBI did during the 2016 election? Check out more Kasso at JohnKassNews.com

  1. There is no longer a news media over here. Only propaganda media in this country. The US attorney in Massachusetts appointed by Kamala Harris who resigned over the leaking of information, was trying to swing an election to the democratic party. Needless to say she won’t be charged criminally by Garland’s DOJ. Why no charges? No story here. Keep moving. NY elected Republican representative Santos lied his way into the House. Pretty much fabricated a background to get himself elected. The DOJ recently announced criminal charges against him related to how he ran his campaign. Then again, John Fetterman also lied his way into the Senate. He produced medical clearances from his doctors stating he was fine to hold office. A few days ago the Chicago Fibune ran a gushing account by the Associated Press of his amazing recovery. What the article didn’t mention are his rambling incoherent statements on the senate floor. This guy couldn’t get medical clearance to drive a car yet he sits in the Senate. Another fraud, liar, and yet no criminal charges here. No calls to resign. There isn’t a story to report here. Only propaganda that the “newspaper” wants you to read. As more and more people have abandoned newspapers and television media for alternative news sources we are just beginning to see the opening salvos for the control the internet as an arbiter of information. The government already has its finger on the scales to tip the decision. Who knows? Maybe Elon Musk can save free speech after all.

  2. “The left” has their narratives, “the right” has their own. Then, there is the truth. As long as we keep playing the left/ right bullshit, DNC, RNC game and buying the garbage they throw around, this will continue unabated.

Jeff is right. “They” investigate “us”. “We” investigate them. And so it goes. Until we get serious reforms; term limits, public financing of campaigns, an audit of the government, top to bottom, strict ethics laws with draconian penalties for violations, nothing will change.

Our Congress is supposed to be representing US, looking out for US, not just themselves.

  3. Let’s be clear about Watergate and the press. “Deep Throat” was Mark Felt, a very corrupt top FBI executive who ran COINTELPRO, who was angry at Nixon for not making him Director when Hoover died. Woodward and Bernstein and Ben Bradlee knew who he was and why he was leaking.

There was nothing noble about it, it was the Washington Post and Mark Felt finding common interest in bringing down Richard Nixon. Whether he deserved it had nothing to do with it.

THAT is the media everyone glorifies.

  4. I would really like some journalist to please identify when this high and far off [mythical] time when journalists just reported the news and facts actually took place. Pre WWII? WWII? Under Truman or Eisenhower? Covering Kennedy but ignoring his illness, medications, and scandals? During the Vietnam War? Nixon & Watergate? ‘Clumsy’ [All-American football player] Ford? Definitely not under Carter, Reagan, or since. Don’t Pulitzers usually go to the NYT and WP because it’s their editors on the Columbia University committees that pick them? Has journalism EVER really been balanced/even-handed or just varying degrees of biased?
