Why Parents of Trans Children Just Can’t Move On: Because of What They’ve Done to Their Kids

When I was a boy there were occasionally lurid stories in the news that fascinated us about Japanese soldiers found on deserted Pacific islands, still fighting World War II decades after the war ended.

These were sad, embittered and deranged individuals who had cut themselves off from the world and prosecuted their war alone. They lived furtively, rather like mole rats in caves, like some gollum from a Tolkien story, half starving, hysterical,  half mad.

And then came adolescence and girls and competitive sport into my life with the faint promise of learning to drive a powerful V-8.

So the half-mad warriors of Imperial Japan, however nobel they may have been to us at Kolmar School, were left far behind and forgotten.

Until the other day, as I listened to Dan Proft’s “The Morning Answer” radio program on AM 560 and finished some minor editing for a column for johnkassnews.com.

It was a column by Dr. Greg Ganske, a former Iowa congressman and retired plastic surgeon who is raising important questions with his latest piece:  “Is it Science or Child Abuse Part II.”

Of course it is child abuse.

America clings to the delusion it is not child abuse even as we commit mass cultural suicide, as we engage in castration of young minor boys and other irreversible tortures inflicted on young pubescent girls via puberty blockers–on the whims of terribly delusional and tortured parents.

Monstrously evil Nazi doctor Josef Mengele would be proud of such doctors, medical associations, journalists and politicians who are carrying the fight for torturing our young people, and shielding themselves from moral outrage by invoking modern scientific man’s arguments in pursuit of pure science.

What does this do? We already know it is guaranteed to stoke a special kind of inevitable anger that will lead to mass shootings and rage, as we commit cultural suicide on those who survive.

Europe is tossing such gruesome notions of “gender assignment surgery and “treatment” where they belong, in the garbage. Recently, Norway has joined other politically progressive European nations–including Finland, the U.K. and Sweden in imposing limits on such treatments for minors.

The Olympics have moved to banning transgender athletes from competition pending testosterone testing, but here in the U.S. we hold fast to the idiotic notions of the left lest we be accused of the sin of “transphobia.”

And the high priests of culture tell us to point us to “gender affirming care” and transgender biological males competing with females, and we grab at it like drowning victims thrown overboard in a storm.

We grab whatever floats knowing that we’re dead men if we don’t. And all the while a few of us sigh and lament the passing of the fools.

But why?

Why are those who stand up in support of women in  women’s sports are targeted for obliteration? It isn’t just a difference of opinion, it is a power trip of angry wasps determined to sting you and other objectors to death.

You’ve seen them egged on in a frenzy against “Harry Potter” novelist J.K. Rowling, against women’s tennis champion Martina Navratalova and so on.

And champion female swimmer Riley Gaines was attacked by enraged transgender activists over Gaines’ legitimate opposition to Lia Thomas, a biological male who calls herself a trans female although she was once a mediocre at best swimmer against men, but since calling herself a woman she scored victory after victory and preened in glory.

What glory? It was false. It was phony. There was no true glory. But Thomas preened and basked in it anyway. As did all those  who preened with her.

Thomas denied other biological women their true victories. And chattering fools of journalism and politics heaped praise upon Thomas, and scorned upon those like Riley Gaines and others who stood up for women.

The Democrats have already made fools of themselves applauding Thomas’ “courage” while hissing at any of her naysayers. They can’t tell you what a woman is. Hint: It’s not Lia Thomas in a pool.

But why?

Helen Joyce, the brave Irish journalist, editor of The Economist and also advocate with the group “Sex Matters” that supports women in athletic competition, not men pretending to be women.

Joyce was interviewed by Peter Boghossian about the differences between men and women.

And here we’re reminded of the Japanese soldier lost on his Pacific Island decades after the war. The parents who participated in the monstrous behavior have nowhere to go.

What I like and admire about Dan Proft is the intellectual heft he brings to the important issues of the day.

Context is important. Rigor is important. And reason.

Insipid foolishness is not important, thank God.

In a Chicago broadcast sea of hacks, simpletons and drooling sentimental barbarians, Proft  stands alone. We are lucky to have him.

JOYCE:  “Something you may not have thought of is that there are a lot of people who can’t move on from this. And that’s the people who have transitioned their own children. So those people are going to be like the Japanese soldiers who were on Pacific islands and didn’t know the war was over. They’ve got to fight forever. This is another reason why this is the worst, worst, worst social contagion that we’ll ever have experienced.

“A lot of people have done what is the worst thing you could do, which is to harm their children irrevocably, because of it. Those people will have to believe that they did the right thing for the rest of their lives, for their own sanity, and for their own self-respect. So they’ll still be fighting, and each one of those people destroys entire organizations and entire friendship groups.

“Like, I’ve lost count of the number of times that somebody has said to me of a specific organization that has been turned upside down on this, “Oh, the deputy director has a trans child.” Or, oh, the journalist on that paper who does special investigations has a trans child. Or whatever. The entire organization gets paralyzed by that one person. And it may not even be widely known at that organization that they have a trans child. But it will come out, people will have sort of said quietly, and now you can’t talk truth in front of that person, and you know you can’t, because what you’re saying is: “You as a parent have done a truly, like, a human rights abuse level of awful thing to your own child that can not be fixed.

“There are specific individuals who are actively against women’s rights here and it is not known why they are, but I happen to know through the back channels that it is because they’ve transed their child.

“So those people will do anything for the entire rest of their lives to destroy me and people like me because people like me are standing in reproach to them. I don’t want to be, I’m not talking directly to them, and I don’t spend my time bitching to them.

“But the fact is that just simply by saying we will never accept natural males in women’s spaces, well it is their son that we’re talking about. And they’ve told their son that he can get himself sterilized and destroy his own basic sexual function and women will accept him as a woman. And if we don’t, there’s no way back for them and that child.

“They’ve sold their child a bill of goods that they can’t deliver on.

“And I’m the one that has to be bullied to try to force me to deliver on it.

“So those people are going to be the people who will keep this bloody movement going, I’m sorry to say, because they’ve everything to lose, and it is a fight to the death as far as they are concerned.”

Joyce argues that because of what they’ve done to their children, there is no way back for them. As GK Chesterton said many years ago, “When men choose not to believe in God, they do not thereafter believe in nothing, they become capable of believing in anything.”

And those who participate in these tortures are desperate to rationalize their behavior. They are perfectly modern. And in their pride, they fashion themselves as their own gods. They strike out at all who dare say otherwise and continue striking because they must. All they leave behind is chaos and pain.

  1. Great and sad column, but John you have fallen for the same garbage the left has forced upon us, changing of the language. You said Lia Thomas is a man, yet you refer to HIM with the feminine gender. Lia thomas is a man pretending to be a woman, yes I will refer to him as Lia because anyone can change their name, what they cannot do is change their sex/gender

    1. Yes, this all gets so confusing with the labeling that goes with describing individuals who identify with being another sex, racial identity or genus. John, as usual nails it. Just because a little boy compliments Mom on her dress doesn’t mean he wants to wear one. If a little girl wants to play baseball doesn’t mean she wants to change in the boys locker room. These parents are evil child abusers. They will mentally scar these kids for life. I wouldn’t describe myself as religious. I pretty much only go to church for a wedding or funeral. Seems like the funerals are winning at this point, but I have reached the conclusion that we are now living in Biblical times. There are things occurring right now that point to Biblical prophesies. True evil is no longer hidden. We are seeing it manifested in social media, mass media, and the entertainment industry. Christian churches are celebrating same sex marriages. Our schools are teaching gender confusion and climate change paranoia as their curriculum/ religion. We are now living under the threat of nuclear war. Our borders are open to child traffickers. An entire railroad car was found with over 200 illegals drugged up so they could be brought into the country. Most were families, about 40 were single adults. More than 20 were single children. Single children. NO ONE SENDS THEIR CHILDREN OVER HERE BY THEMSELVES. WHO IS TAKING THESE CHILDREN WHEN THEY GET HERE? The United States Government of Joe Biden is complicit in the trafficking of children. These people seek to corrupt kids because they’re malleable.     1. I truly feel for all families that are told they have the choice between dead child of one sex, or a live child of another. It’s such a lie. This really needs to wait until the child is an adult and makes their own decisions. And every consequence needs to be spelled out in bold print, 14 point bold, underlined. It is not a simple set of surgeries.

    There are X chromosomes and Y chromosomes and no amount of hormones or mutilating surgery can change that.

    Men are better swimmers because they inherit lying have more upper body strength.
    Men are better runners because their hip bones are structured differently than women’s and their leg muscles are inherently stronger.
    No amount of denying science can change that.

  8. We’ve all heard Chief Judge Tim Evans’ pronouncement that the crimes of a child, up to the age of 21 (as I recall) must be excused because the child’s brain is not fully developed. But, the same “progressives” who are so quick to make excuses for a child’s inability to know right from wrong in that action are completely comfortable in allowing a much younger child decide on their gender. The Left always has an “explanation” for what is nothing but insanity.

      If one reads and follows the science of Jean Piaget, who was the first Psychologist to undertake systematic study of the acquisition of understanding by children, you come to a self evident truth about children. That truth is that children are not little adults, and do not have the ability to reason out for themselves what their gender identity is, at least not until the age of about 18 years old. I actually believe Judge Evans pronouncement about crimes by children under the age of 21 may be based upon the stages of development of understanding as delineated by Piaget. I disagree with Judge Evans about the age at which “children” can be held accountable. I think that age should be 18. With this in mind, I don’t believe the average 18 year old should be allowed to try to change their gender that God gave them through their chromosomes. In my estimation, I believe that Developmental Psychologists would probably find that at age 18 an individual at that point in their lives could BEGIN to have conversations with a psychologist about their gender identity. If this became law I believe the number of young people, who after a couple years of counseling BEGINNING at age 18, by the time the young people are 20 or 21 years old, the number of these people who continue to have gender disphoria at that point, would be a very small number of people.. I don’t believe I, nor any one person should determine the age at which point young people are allowed to undergo gender transition surgeries, I believe developmental psychologists who are of the Piaget school of thought, should determine the age these surgeries are allowed. Practically, based on current U.S. laws and future Developmental Psychologists scientific findings, they would probably settle on age 20 or 21.

      Again, I would insist children under the age of 18 are self evidently NOT adults, and they are only able to BEGIN having conversations with adult level reasoning until they are at least age 18, and at that point it would be legitmate for them to begin counseling before any Gender transition treatments. Puberty blocking drugs should NEVER be legal, as I am certain that scientific studies of their effects by developmental pschologists (which have not been done) would actually find that those drugs (chemicals) at least in part block the normal development of adolescents as determined by the DNA that God granted them. So I guess in today’s environment, I should also state Adolescents are self evidently NOT adults. If any one states something like “scientific studies show puberty blocking drugs….” are somehow helpful for any adolescent, we must insist the individual making the statement must cite actual specific studies, and they must cite the actual specific psychologists by their names, and those psychologists must respond to inquiries about their studies. No such studies exist.

      God designed all individual humans to develop as determined by their chromosomes, and He designed X and Y chromosomes to provide for their development, and Gods plans should not be blocked by puberty blockers.

      Sorry this is so long, I’ll get off my soap box now, but I just feel Adults must insist that children (who are not adults) develop as God intentioned: these children are not capable of reasoning or talking about gender identity until at least age 18. Please read Jean Piaget’s work if you have time, it is very enlightening.

The evil one is the master of lies and confusion and unfortunately is also a master tactician at spiritual warfare. When the left continues to remove God from the country and promotes abortion, homosexuality, transgenderism and gender dysphoria’s, sadly, they become easy prey for the devil.

      There are many solid, God-fearing families who teach their children about God, who do their best to live by following Yeshua the Messiah, but there are many of us who lost our children to the lies of so-called “professionals” who have sold their souls — and our families’ well-being — to the enemy. It’s not just happening with little children. It’s happening to our adult children.

      Parents/families are not the only influence on our children. The enemy gets in through the world, and parents still lose their children to gender dysphoria, and the lie that it is “normal” when it is, in fact, a mental illness.

      1. Totally agree, I should have rephrased that first line. I also know of good families who have, for the moment, lost their children/parents to the evils and lies of these issues. My point should have stated that with strong family values, they have a better chance than not to fight off the unwanted advances of this secular society.   15. Whats really scary is the ability of those in ‘power’ who can take a child away from parents and ‘treat’ these children against the wishes of their parent(s).
    Where are the lawyers in this? Are there no rights of/for parents?
    Some nice big lawsuits against schools, teachers, hospitals, physicians, social workers, etc might slow this. Go into court and argue the ‘science’. File complaints against physicians with State licensing boards. Get off your asses and act. Cost them money defending themselves.

      I have seen figures that indicate that there has been a dramatic increase in adolescent girls identifying as boys in recent years.       Do you believe children have the same ability to reason as an adult? They just do not have that ability. Do you believe each individual person should have a right to become an adult, with adult reasoning ability to determine for themselves what their gender identity is? Yes, there is a movement to take the rights of parents away and give those rights to “doctors” or to the government or both.

      Citing numbers of children who identify as trans does not mean anything, because as children they are not able to reason for themselves with adult level logic, they are simply getting on a bandwagon wagon of peers who have been mislead by malinformed adults.

      Young people need to be allowed to develop adult reasoning, so they can use adult level reasoning to decide their identity for themselves, with parental guidance. Doctors need to butt out, the gender identity of young individuals who are not adults is the business of each young individual and their parents. Same for the government, any level of government needs to stay out of the gender identity decisions of young people, it should be decided by the idnvidual with guidance of hopefully a mother AND a father.

      1. I’m not aware of any nefarious government decree that declares that the ‘deep state’ has the ‘right’ to alter your children’s sexuality, because no such decree exists.       To me, the parent of children currently going through the sh**show of CPS where males are in the same bathrooms as my girls and competing against them with unfair advantage in sports.

      The US is supposed to be about folks having an equal chance, but the males who are competing against girls in girls sports are apparently more “equal” than others, so deem the politicians…

  18. It’s all pretty simple. If you are born with a penis you are a man, and if you are born with a vagina you are a woman. Everybody else is an other. So if you wish to change your lifestyle/gender, you can compete in the other league with the others, but you are not allowed to compete against women or men any more, because you have changed your status to other.

    Why make it so difficult. And why do we have to constantly bow down to the 2 or 3 percent of the freaks in this country. So, I admire anybody, like Ms. Gaines who stands up for the right thing!!!! Why don’t we al start doing that!!!!!!

  20. For many years, I found almost nothing in the words of commentator/comedian Bill Maher with which I could agree. Lately, while he is still a Liberal by his own description, I find it interesting to hear even a Liberal’s commentary on this whole idea of parentally-allowed child mutilation, perhaps to fulfill some unspoken need of the parent rather than the child! Maher gives the example of being so happy his mother and father didn’t have his eye removed and his leg cut off above the knee when he declared as a kid that he really wanted to be a pirate.

    It is interesting to consider further, because this parental willingness to go along with this insanity must somehow connect to whatever is going on in the head of the PARENT, not the kid! Kids have fantasized themselves as a whole range of things – from astronauts to zebras! When I was a kid, I thought I wanted to be a man who worked in a bank….why? because my uncle, who worked in a bank in the Merchandise Mart went to work in a suit and drove a beautiful car. I didn’t really want to be a MALE, I wanted to go to work all dressed up and drive a fancy car…..and you know what? eventually I went to work on Michigan Avenue for Buick Motor Division, and yes, I drove a fancy new car every year – – – I was living my early vision of myself!!! Imagine that!

  21. There are only two genders, this is true. They’ve closed down clinics in Europe and stopped doing as many surgeries and are cutting way back in prescribing the drugs, some have stopped altogether.

    I felt so bad for the female swimmers who had yo compete against that freak, Lia Thomas. And the Democrats won’t stand up to these radicals who’ve seized the party even though you know they must laugh behind their backs.

    Hispanics are joining the Republicans because many are Catholics and own businesses and don’t want such a heavy hand in their lives. Asians don’t like being called white supremacists for making their kids work hard, they are moving Republican too. More and more black folks, especially men are moving Republican.

    The Democrats have ceded authority, morality, patriotism to the Republicans. What’s down us up and what’s up is down. Hilary Clinton and black mascot for Wall Street Obama are microcosm of the elitists that will do or say anything, including that a man is a woman, in order to stay in power.

    They are the reason why Trump is even money to win the presidency again. Which is really saying something.

    Neither party addresses issues which are important to working people, in fact they look down on them.

    Of the elites, by the elites, for the elites. They can’t even teach the kids to read and do math, but they want to teach gender and oppression?

    We have multiple crises on the horizon and we are wasting time about what a woman is.

    I wish someone would stand up and lead.

  22. I’ve read for years of communities in other countries where people dress as the other gender and seem to be happy. One in Mexico comes to mind. And some people throughout the centuries have decided to dress as the opposite sex throughout their lifetime; several Civil War casualties were found to be women after death. They didn’t have to make a decision on surgery. I see parents who truly love their children do their best to protect them. It’s fraught.
    I have a good friend whose daughter had trans surgery after 18 and I have never seen him so happy. I know there have been reports of those who wish they hadn’t had trans treatment and surgery, and that must be horrific pain. I’m not an expert and am thankful being female was never a question mark for me.

  24. Trump will cruise to the nomination. The indictments only strengthen him with his supporters.

    Believe it or not, Dems want to run against Trump. 20% of the country worships him, 25% tolerated him and more than half can’t stand him.

    Trump will pick a bootlicker like Kari Lake to be his running mate.

    I bet there won’t even be a debate.

    If Dems were smart, which they are not, they’d find a reason to drop Harris. She is weak, not intelligent, and brings nothing but racial diversity to the ticket. Talk about no intellectual heft? Dan Proft could run circles around either Trump, Biden, or Harris.

    As long as the economy doesn’t go in the shitter, and Ukraines doesn’t get too ugly, Biden should squeak it out.

    Stock market is up. Unemployment is down. Crime seems to have leveled off.

    Abortion, killing babies, should put him over the top. He will propose the student loan forgiveness charade that he has no intention of doing, he will propose raising min wage, won’t follow through, also public option, not a chance.

    Hollow promises will trick liberals into voting for him. The media has done a great job bloodying up Trump. He won’t let the election steal go, and he’s encouraging his supporters not to vote early or by mail.

I just hope any uninformed parents who were dumb enough to take their kids were smart enough to keep them away from you. I certainly wouldn’t let my kid go to the bathroom facility alone with the likes of you hanging around there. A more appropriate film for the readers of this site would be “The Sound of Freedom”. Even a nitwit like Fake Riga Tony who likes to hang around public restrooms late at night would support and endorse this concept.

  26. If BOTH sides are wrong and you meet in the middle, it is still wrong.
    In Illinois, progressive judges believe that they are a higher power than God Almighty.
    And it will be spectacular when that trans child becomes an adult, realizes that poor decisions were made on their behalf and sues the parents, school teachers, school district, doctors and judges who engaged in the absurb notion that biological sexes can be “changed”.
    You can’t legislate it, regardless of what Gov. Pritzker says or any of his bought and paid for judges.

  30. As I listened to Helen Joyce’s comments live the other day on Dan Proft’s show driving to work like I do every day, her words, strung together with precision logic, shook me to the core. Yes, finally someone pieced together what many of us feel innately but are not sophisticated enough to articulate it in the way she did. The fact that you wrote a whole column about it is confirmation to all of your admirers that your recovery is on track and you have not lost a beat! Love you for this!
