John, get better, we need your voice. No disrespect intended, but today’s podcast was pretty lame.
Haven’t listened yet but its always good to hear from Professor Lipson. Hope your feeling better John. It’s going to be 75 here, a little overcast in West Texas. Midwest weather can be rough on the system. Haven’t caught the flu since I’ve moved here and no one ever died of a heart attack shoveling snow over here. Get well soon!
I enjoyed today’s podcast and thought Jeff and Charles did a good job. Interesting conversation about the evolution of the legacy media and the influence electronic media on it. For my two cents, I think people could do a better job evaluating the reporting on their own. Good reporting tells both sides of a story and includes the pros and cons of the subject. If the author(s) issues an opinion it should be clearly labeled as such. If it only covers one side of the story then more research is needed to finalize an opinion on said subject. John, get well soon. I value your opinions and enjoy your commentary.
Bob.
I was YouTube surfing last night and I came across an old episode of ” At The Movies” with the late, great Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert. These two debated the merits of film, big budget, low budget, or foreign. They gave you their opinions honestly and passionately without fear of offending any corporate entity. I remember both being adamant that they NEVER took the media junkets supplied by movie studios to gain favorable reviews from the media. They continued this even after the show was successful enough to be syndicated, leaving PBS. They never changed their outlook. I respected their opinions so much that many times I would go to see a movie that I might not have gone to see without their thumbs up. You will NEVER see this kind of trust in the media anymore. Everything, including newspapers are now owned by the same Oligarchs and corporations. Movie studios and other media entities are all owned by the same people. This ensures EVERYTHING is reported in lockstep. Never any honesty in reporting anything. Our local TV reporter here in Houston gleefully takes the press junkets and reports the horrible films he reviews are life changing works of art. The kind of respect that Siskel and Ebert received from the public simply from reporting honestly will never ever occur again. There simply is no more honesty in the media. I refuse to call it ” news media”. They lost that right many years ago.
Good wishes for John’s speedy recovery And thank you Jeff for having Charles Lipson stepping in for John. My compliments to you for carrying on the conversation with intuitive communication with relevant issues of today.
Hope your voice bounces back quickly!
