The Chicago Way w/John Kass: On the brink
Chicago Way w/John Kass (01/26/26): Retired police chief Tom Weitzel (Riverside) joins John Kass & Jeff Carlin to talk about his work with Awake Illinois to stop SB2820 (Introduced by Sen. Laura Fine [D-Glenview]) from being passed. SB2820 would ban anyone who previously worked with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from being a law enforcement officer in Illinois. Plus, Kasso wonders if there is a way to step back from all-out civil war that doesn’t involve bowing before the leftists?

The proposed bill is leftist lunacy.
How in the world do these people get elected to public offices?
ICE officers are employed by the Federal Government. They also serve the taxpayer. Why do supposedly sane officials want to eliminate these people from a state employment pool???
TDS must be a terrible brain wasting disease.
TDS is the excuse for a lot of the Democrats actions, but the fact of the matter is that they would do this to any Republican president. They were calling Bush II Hitler long before Trump even considered running for office.
Laura Fine is running for public office on the bleeding heart side of town on the North Shore and this of just one of her lefty positions in her current media blitz to appeal to the hearts and minds of her woke constituents.
I don’t think any individual that wants to work in law enforcement should even consider working in Illinois. The politics don’t support those individuals. Better ICE agents take their talents to where they’re more appreciated.
Laura Fine is a typical Karen. We all know where they can go!
Typical AWFL
Yianni,
Apparently TDS runs rampant through our seats of government in Illinois and Chicago! These lame attempts to circumvent Fed laws and regs only serve to highlight the socialists’ lack of agenda, other than hate Trump. Allowing illegals and criminals to roam free – so they can illegally vote come next election, is their game plan. More illegals? More potential voters! Simple! Even I can do the math! Time for a “purge” of leftists from our local/regional governments! Get out and VOTE!!!!
Typical. The hellhole that is Illinois should be glad that anyone would want to do law enforcement in the state or the City of Chicago. Cities like Chicago and Minneapolis are going to have MAJOR problems replacing retirees. Trust me, the Feds ain’t leaving their jobs to work anywhere NEAR these cities/states. Good luck in your future hiring, dumpsters. Another Democratic genius is proposing that if a gun owner shoots a criminal who, while in the performance of doing his job, commiting crime, the manufacturer of the gun will be responsible for the newly shot criminals medical bills. Oh , and lawsuit liable also. The fools that are in the process of ruining that state are now running rampant. Yes, The “Running of The Fools”. Along with the “SafeT Act” these Fools are successfully chasing out taxpayers and businesses. Just like Minnesota. California. New York. The ultra wealthy relocate to their other homes. The millionaires buy new homes. The upper middle class have marketable professions that allow them to go elsewhere to work. This leaves the middle class and the working poor to take the hit. The Freeloaders aka Guaranteed Democrat Votes do not enter the equation since all they do is collect. Loyal Chicago Democrats voted themselves into the property tax hole and now they complain about. This is known as poetic justice. You got what you voted for. Be happy. If I was a bored millionaire I would erect billboard signs at every state line highway with the phrase ” Welcome to Illinois the most crime friendly state in the nation. Abandon all hope, ye who enter.”
What an unconstitutional proposed law. When one is being hired for any law enforcement position, the individual should be judged on their qualifications, temperament previous training etc. Based upon this law, just because one worked in ICE, that person is automatically precluded from being a law enforcement officer in Illinois. Clearly Senator Fine needs to read the constitution.
