The Chicago Way w/John Kass: A smile to bring down a city

Chicago Way w/John Kass (11/03/25): Charles Lipson, the Peter B. Ritzma Professor of Political Science Emeritus at the University of Chicago, joins John Kass and Jeff Carlin this week to discuss what Zohran Mamdani’s role as a leader of the modern Democratic Party will look like, how the U.S. is going to respond to the situation in Nigeria, when things went wrong for William F. Buckley, and who is to blame for those stupid ads you keep getting about diapers. Plus, Kass wonders if a single smile can bring down an entire city?

  1. Mamdami keeps his jaw locked in that silly grin so you can’t see his lips trembling in fear of New York voters discovering what a web of bullshit he’s weaving. Trump could have energized New Yorkers by throwing a rally, but that would be to encourage New Yorkers to elect Andrew Cuomo. Not likely. But Trump is a genius at playing the long game. He’s going to use the communist election to ensure Elise Stefanik gets the governors seat when voters take their anger out on the Democrat Party. Stefanik will then use the seat to rein in the insanity of the Communists/ Democrats who will by then be deep into destroying that city. The Republicans will then be seen as the saviors of New York. As I said: TRUMP IS A GENIUS AT PLAYING THE LONG GAME.

  2. When he fails to keep his promises Mamdani will blame his failures on the refusal of either the New York State legislature or Trump (the Federal Gov’t, but Trump is a better boogeyman) to adequately fund it or pass enabling legislation. No failure will be his fault. And his voters will believe him.
