Unleashing the Deep State Rat Catchers
By John Kass
January 26, 2025
In the coming days the silky tongued Deep State Democrats will try to peel the skin from poor Kash Patel and Tulsi Gabbard. They are, as you know, President Donald Trump’s nominees for director of FBI and National Intelligence.
But before the left wing corporate media can distract you with their own drama and howls, I’d ask all Americans to concentrate on a specific image:
The painting at the top of today’s column at johnkassnews.com. It is called simply “Rat-Catching at the Blue Anchor Tavern.”
We don’t hunt rats for sport these days, though we should, because all dogs need a job. Back in London in the 1850s, the people weren’t sentimental as we are in America. Then, London was bursting at the seams. The United Kingdom was enjoying economic prosperity during the Victorian Age. They bred fine carriage horses and fine dogs. And they hated rats that spread disease and death. And I also hate them. Not dislike, but actually hate.
Why?
As as a boy in Chicago, we lived in a two-flat on South Peoria Street, the entire extended family. We lived just a few blocks from the Union Stockyards, where 10 million livestock were slaughtered each year. All Americans who wanted work could find a job in those days. But air was foul and smelled of fear. The alleys were cinder. There were no garbage cans, but there were concrete garbage boxes in the alleys. They had green iron doors that the garbagemen would open to shovel out the garbage. Rats can chew through concrete and squeeze through a quarter-sized hole. Chicago was a rat paradise then.
And Chicago is still the rattiest city in the U.S.
And for all the moronic gibbering from the Crazy Cat Ladies–from smelling and thereby ingesting parasites that attack the human brain and thereby drive the poor Cat Ladies insane–their belief that feral cats are the equal to dogs in the rat dispatching department is just wrong. It’s pure lunacy. A cat plays with a rat. A dog doesn’t languish. A dog has work to do. A dog bites them, shakes its head vigorously to break the rat’s back, and rushes on to kill more.
The best in this work are the terriers. A good dog like the famous Tiny the Terrier–a small, toy black and tan Manchester Terrier–could kill hundreds of rats in an hour.
How many rats live in Washington under protection of the bi-partisan Combine that I’ve been telling you about for years? They are a legion. And so there is work to do.
To give you an idea of how frightened the Deep State rats are now, I’m linking here to a video for you to watch It is of Patel, speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference. It shows you how important it is to unleash Patel to hunt those rats down.
“When Donald Trump came down that escalator at Trump Tower, the Deep State was already moving at 100 miles an hour,” Patel said, and now “they have put their army, on the ground in government agencies, in departments from the Department of Defense to the FBI, to the DOJ. THEY have weaponized justice, THEY have politicized the Intelligence Community. THEY have seized our department of defense…and they have led to disasters in Afghanistan, in Ukraine, and Israel. And elsewhere.”
I hope you watch the whole thing. You won’t see this in context on the legacy media news stations. But as Patel and Gabbard get ready to testify this week, you will hear the rats screeching. One of the rats I’m thinking of is named John Brennan, the former boss of the Central Intelligence Agency. That was the agency that Democrat political hacks like Anthony Blinken went to gather signatures needed for the Big Lie that won Joe Biden the presidential election: the lie that Russia was behind the terribly incriminating Hunter Biden laptop.
Remember? It was like black magic. There were 51 shameless Intelligence operatives who signed the letter alleging that the laptop had “all the hallmarks” of a Russian intelligence operation. That letter was released just in time for Joe Biden to bark that he, his son and the rest of the Democrat Joe Biden Crime Family were victims of pro-Trump news writers. It allowed Biden to gaslight the American people. Biden used the shameless 51 as his shield during his last debate of the 2020 presidential campaign.
It was all a lie.
Most Americans would have voted against Biden if they knew. But the corrupt corporate news media suppressed all those New York Post stories about the laptop, and even though columnist Miranda Devine wrote her book “Laptop From Hell,” it wasn’t enough. Social media giants including Facebook and what was then called “Twitter” suppressed and censored the Post stories. Taxpayer funded National Public Radio suppressed those stories, as did the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and other newsrooms, including the Chicago Tribune. MSNBC and CNN, and ABC, NBC and CBS played along also. They manipulated the news.
It was a domestic American Intelligence operation. And corrupt corporate legacy media carried the message, again and again, cawing like trained ravens singing for squirrel meat. And Biden was elected, and later pardoned his entire Biden Crime Family. But he did not pardon himself or his wife.
Brennan at his most odious recently, ran to Deep State cheerleader Andrea Mitchell to play a weasel word game with the truth. Brennan in an interview with MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell denied labeling the Hunter Biden laptop story as Russian disinformation, instead calling it a “Russian information operation” that included “the dumping of accurate information.”
Think of a rat in the pit, on hind legs, sniffing the air, fearful of what’s coming. That’s Brennan.
“No, we said it was for the hallmarks of Russian information operations, including the dumping of accurate information, which is what we said in that letter,” Brennan said whining that President Trump would strip him of national security clearance. “So again, this was just, you know, his effort to try to get back at those individuals who have criticized him openly and publicly in the past, and I think very legitimately.”
Hallmarks?
You played a spy game with our nation. You have no shame. You have no honor. In some other, better, universe a rat like Brennan–if he were a gentleman with the slightest pretense of honor–would take a short walk alone in the winter woods and not return home. But honor means nothing to rats like John Brennan.
There are other people of honor who would never sign such a letter. They prize their honor, their family name and the tradecraft of their profession. Many did not sign it. My brother Nicholas, who served honorably for three decades did not sign it. He’d never sign it.
Senators of the Judiciary Committee will conduct the confirmation hearing for Patel and Gabbard. The Deep State hates them. Hillary Clinton, who destroyed her own credibility in political campaigns, has attempted to paint Gabbard as an agent of Russia, because Gabbard met with then Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad in 2017. A recent editorial condemning Gabbard in the once-conservative National Review read as if dictated by an angry hysterical Hillary after a long afternoon session with the refrigerated wine box.
So I opted to read the sincerely conservative Federalist, Tristan Justice under the headline “Tulsi Gabbard Is An American Hero Being Tarred As A Terrorist”
“If meeting with Assad is disqualifying” writes Justice, “then why did the Senate confirm 94 to 3 to confirm Secretary of State John Kerry in 2013? Kerry met with the Syrian president while serving as a senator from Massachusetts in 2006. Were either of the anonymous senators who are now apparently critical of Gabbard’s meeting in office 12 years ago? Did they vote to confirm Kerry as the nation’s chief diplomat? If they were previously in the House, did either complain when then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi met with Assad over President George W. Bush’s objections a year later?
Or is Gabbard’s meeting now suddenly a problem because, under President Trump, engaging with overseas adversaries is an effective strategy to keep the peace, and neocons in Congress are allergic to world peace?”
The Senate Judiciary Committee is the lair of a particularly oily Democrat from Illinois, Sen. Richard “Dick” Durbin, as slippery as the Illinois bullhead, a slimy fish with a sting. And the only reason why he’s been allowed to represent Illinois for decades–as his wife served as a lobbyist–was that the Illinois Republican Party has been as corrupt, if not more so, than the Democrats. You might remember Durbin released his inner political bigotry at Amy Coney Barrett an associate justice of the Supreme Court. During her confirmation hearing, Durbin stunned the nation with his bigoted questions about her religion. She is Roman Catholic and she and her husband are the parents of seven children.
“Do you consider yourself an orthodox Catholic?” cooed Durbin in that oily voice of his.
And his fellow Democrat of California, the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein went on a mad tangent as if ready to burn Barrett for a witch.
“When you read your speeches, the conclusion one draws is that the dogma lives loudly within you,” said Feinstein, the ranking Democrat on the Judiciary Committee. “And that’s of concern when you come to big issues that large numbers of people have fought for for years in this country.”
The dogma lives loudly within you? This “dogma” is what we Christians call faith. It was a political witch hunt, cloaked in soft voices and the weight of federal power, and for that the Democrats should be eternally shamed.
Would Democratic senators dare ask such questions of a Muslim? No. Their own party would condemn them as would every newspaper editorial board in the country.
Democrats are upset because Patel thwarted them. He exposed the Russia collusion lie. They must be exposed, and rooted out or they will build another giant nest.
It won’t be easy. The bi-partisan Combine that hates you and Trump has already worked to try and thwart the Trump nomination of Pete Hegseth for Secretary of Defense. It failed. Combine members Senators Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins and Mitch McConnell voted against confirming Hegseth. But Vice President J.D. Vance broke the Senate tie.
It has always been McConnell, the Combine master, who has perverted the people’s will. The Deep State hides in the wrinkles of his soft leathery neck, as pink as salt smoked and cured old fashioned Kentucky ham.
The Federalist co-founder, conservative Sean M. Davis offers a prescription that only someone who understands the Deep State could offer the American people. Davis posted this on X as @seanmdav:
“Now it’s time for Trump to crush, with extreme prejudice, the entire Mitch McConnell staffer-fundraiser-lobbyist network in D.C. Ban them from all admin jobs and appointments, PNG their clients, and cut them off from all RNC/congressional campaign contracts.”
Americans are encouraged to back down, to back away from the task at hand. But that won’t get this Kentucky Combine rat or the other Deep State vermin. Their political posses must be made to be afraid to ride with them. If we were talking about your home you wouldn’t hesitate. You’d unleash the ratter and get it done. Rats in the smokehouse will eat through as many pink hams as they can reach. They are insatiable.
And as Sean Davis says, that is what Trump and the Republicans must do, no matter how much McConnell and his agents cry, no matter how much his mouthpieces like George Will and others like them plead mercy. Remember this as if you were having a drink and making a wager at the Blue Anchor Tavern in London.
There can be no mercy for a Deep State Combine Rat.
Unleash the terrier. Finish the job. If you’re a Senator, our country is hurting. So do your job. And get it done.

William Makepeace Thackeray would howl would approval, for your witty and exact prose and to see a later-day- Touzer toss the limp remains of these rats. Sound prosaics and sounder policy! Kass, Old Top, you have made poetry of the prose: “The Senate Judiciary Committee is the lair of a particularly oily Democrat from Illinois, Sen. And the only reason why he’s been allowed to represent Illinois for decades–as his wife served as a lobbyist–was that the Illinois Republican Party has been as corrupt, if not more so, than the Democrats. ”
Now, Touzer-Patel, “At Them! You valiant young villain!”
^^^^ THIS!!!!! ^^^^ Thank you, Pat.
Bravissimo, John!

Good morning, John. Again, you word pictures are great. I’m writing because I’ve “grown up” over the past two decades. Always a Republican, I couldn’t comprehend how slick the tongues of politicians could be. I grew up listening to WGN radio and Durban was interviewed a lot. What a smooth talker! When Obama was president I began to “wake-up” to reality. Now, thanks to you, and others who have found their voices outside of the Established media, my eyes are wide open. I married my husband 15 years ago and he refused to live in Illinois, so I moved to NW Indiana, and even though Democrats reign locally it’s mitigated by the state. Thank you for all your work. I wish we could meet some day. -Linda
To Democrats and their media cheerleaders, the only good Catholic is a bad Catholic. The courageous Bishop of Springfield Thomas Paprocki instructed the priests in his diocese to deny communion to all politicians who publicly vote pro choice. Thus, as reported in the National Catholic Register, Mr Durban had to “[find] another Catholic venue” in the Archdiocese of Chicago.
Ahh Bishop Paprocki, better known to his hockey pals as the “Holy Goalie” Like Hall, Crawford and Neimi, he fought off the pucks of players And slimy Durbin too, on doctrine, not politics. When posters called Budde a Catholic Bishop clearly showed their ignorance. No female priests or bishops in the Catholic Church. We need more Paprocki’s in this world and fewer political operatives like Budde.
If the Pope we now have had the convictions of faith and courage that Benedict or St. John Paul II had, he would have excommunicated Biden, Durbin, Pelosi and all the others who say that they are Catholic and support abortion. Where in Scripture did Jesus say that is acceptable to kill your own offspring?
John.
I can’t say I was surprised by Bishop Budde’s sermon and, as a religious leader, I accept that she felt it necessary to make the points she made. President Trump has a different responsibility as chief executive of the nation.
Had I been in a position to advise the president after the sermon, I would have suggested that he graciously thank the Bishop for her comments, that he would consider them, and then assure her that he would act in the best interests of the citizens of the United States.
PS. Since the formal title for a Roman Catholic Bishop is “Most Reverend,” I think his hockey pals can safely refer to Bp. Paprocki as the “Most Holy Goalie!” 🙂
Good morning John and all. Great column.
We have a long and difficult war of ideas ahead of us here. The deep state will not go quietly.
Hey DOGE, how about cutting off the government Endowments to the universities as a shot across the lefts bow.
Well written and well said, John. We must not shrink from our duty. The halls of the federal government need to be gone through with a fire hose.
The deep staters need to understand what this past election was all about-change. Change from everything, from what’s become the deep state, from having the lunacy of the left forced upon us, from having our taxes pay for all the insanity. The ways of the past need to be hammered down so deeply that they can never ride again.
Show no mercy and take no prisoners! Thank you, Mr. Kass!
Καλημέρα Γιάννη,
Lest we forget – the swamp is full of snakes as well, not to mention a few land mines here and there. Oily Durban will no doubt die in office as an immovable relic. We need a purge in Chicago and Illinois of these career socialists that continue to excuse crime and criminal behavior, allowing deteriorating conditions to fester – just like the disease caused by rats! Θεός φυλαξη!!
I agree Durbin is satanic, a devious
deepe-state rat without a conscience. He make my skin crawl.
Confirm Patel, let’s see if the rumors about Durbin and Epstein’s fantasy island are true.
We also should start taxing University endowments. That’ll get some lefties heads spinning and possibly lower OUR taxes.
Watching Steven Bannon, he urged Trump and the rest of his administration to plow full speed ahead with all our agendas with the “win” wind at our backs. Judging from the feckless and spineless bile that the Demorats squeaked at his nominees, these Demorats rats will soon be devouring each other. Keep up the pressure, it is only beginning. Thanks John
McConnell leads the Uniparty. Get him! He shined one time in his career on Kavanaugh. I don’t know why he did it. I am trying to piece together what sort of benefit he would receive from it.
One time I was walking my dog (French Britanny) down Lake Shore Drive in the evening around 8PM. I had him off the leash (unlawful, but the dog was obedient). He took off like a bullet toward the Polish Embassy, and killed a rat right there on LSD. As John says, he caught it, and grabbed it and shook it to death. The dog couldn’t hunt birds, but was good on that rat.
I love this column! Your use of the rat catchers is great!
The problem, just like London had with catching rats, is that the get shrewd and go into their holes and pop out somewhere else, somewhere new. The DC rats are wily if nothing else.
The best thing we can do to help the likes of Kash Patel is to continue what we the voters started: use the mid terms to vote out more of the rats. All the Soros men and all the Soros horses couldn’t put the Soros Humpy Dumpty back together again….
The Deep State mouthpieces have long tried to undercut Trump’s successes campaigning for some Senate candidates. There may have been better candidates than his choices, while some opponents were stronger than others. But now, he is in position to rid the vulnerable rats like Turtle McConnell and Murkowski et al, who defy MAGA from their red states. That is inexcusable.
Good Morning Mr. Kass:
EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT column ~ Thank you!
I am praying for K. Patel and T. Gabbard winning the nomination!
“The possibility that empathy resides in parts of the brain so ancient that we share them with rats should give pause to anyone comparing politicians with those poor, underestimated creatures.”-Frans de Waal
Thank you for your voice in these matters.
One point of difference: cats catch rats just as well, and while dogs were bred for hunting, guarding or companionship, cats are less domesticated and kept around breweries and farm houses to perform their nasty job too.
Yeah. It’s too little too late for the Republicans to pretend they were brave Constitutionalists. After 9/11 and the Patriot Act, meant to surveil Americans more than terrorists, only Russ Feingold, who was the lone no vote, can hold his head high.
You should write about Boss Madigan. It might soon be his turn to walk out into the woods.
Trump found out in his first term just how deep the swamp goes. That’s one reason he released the JFK, RFK and MLK assassination records. I think the public will be aghast when they find out that our own Deep State killed all three because they threatened to end the devious power grab of men who don’t believe in the concepts of freedom and democracy. Most of those early Deep State members are dead, but their proteges are well-ensconced at all levels of government.
Well here is little inconvenient fact for you John. If it wasn’t for Sen McConnell you would not have the present make up of the Supreme Court. In fact Merrick Garland would likely be on it. Think about that before you go off half cocked with your nonsense. You see John the reality is, today, it IS all about THE Court.
I agree that the Court is of Supreme importance. If we ever lose it, our country will be finished forever.
However, having the POTUS and Congress are important, too.
Look at the Mark Isenberb comment. He sounds exactly like TTT.
Ha Ha. But I know he is likely Not TTT.
The Court’s importance – for better or for worse – is outsized. FDR knew this. The present day wokesters know this as they were all yapping about “packing” the Court. Rather than criticize McConnell we owe him a debt. It was not only his blocking of the disaster known as Merrick Garland from the Court, he guided Trump during his first term, through the maize to get a whole lot of conservative judges on the federal bench. We are largely here, and not in a woke rabitt hole because of Mitch McConnell.
And yes, Congress and the POTUS are important. But the Congress has largely abrogated its responsibilities to the administrative state. Hence the critical importance of the judiciary and confirming what I said about Mitch McConnell.
I get it about Trump supporters and the Fox News playbook led by master manipulator old Rupert Murdoch who sold his Fox movie empire to Disney for $51 Billion, ten years ago and is the ultimate Greed is Good Warrior. What I do not get is how it is still about Trump the Brand not Trump the Change Maker. He is selling stuff like crypto coins as President. Not Cool. Most of you in Kassland are ok with it like the pardons for the Jan.6 violent protesters in 2021 who hurt police or worse. Some of them not all of course, should be prosecuted again. And if I did not like John,I would leave you small minded folks alone to revel in the Golden Age jive. But,even John knows that a new head Coach for Da Bears won’t get them far without better Defense or getting the McCaskeys to sell. Or getting Jerry Reinsdorf to sell the Bulls and Sox. Me? I could never vote for Trump the Brand nor did I trust the Biden Mafia either. I got plenty of cheese here in my Florida frig for the rats, though….
isenberg you are insulting.
Kassland? no one is forcing you to be here.
Great article John, as a longtime owner of many Cairn terriers, I can fully attest to their skills as rodent eradicators. They have attacked and killed rabbits, ground hogs, possum and various chipmunks and field mice. If only we could breed giant terriers and turn them loose in a sealed capitol building.
Trump has alreasy begun to defang The Deep State by releasing the JFK,RFK and King assassination files that the FBI and CIA have sealed by court order. Trump has also said he will release the Epstein visitors list also sealed by court order. When that day of release comes..to quote Flounder from “Animal House”
“…oh boy is this great!”
