Police Boss Garry McCarthy Loses Daughter to Chinese Fentanyl and Mexican Drug Gangs

Former Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy—now the police chief of suburban Willow Springs–is one tough man, a cop’s cop, relentless, hard shoes shined, looking for lawbreakers the way a natural born linebacker searches for ball carriers, relentlessly. A true crime fighter.

But even the strongest among us are weak for our children.

And a year ago last May, his daughter Kyla McCarthy joined the ranks of more than 100,000 young Americans murdered by the synthetic opioid fentanyl.

It is the deadly poison made by the Communist government of China and shipped easily here to our hemisphere, to our wide-open border with Mexico.

And it is all put together by the vicious Mexican drug cartels to kill our children. The Biden Administration tells us the border is secure, but they know that’s a lie and parents know it.

This is not just a cop story. It is a father’s story. An American’s story.

“It’s a story that you’ve heard 100 times,” said McCarthy on the Chicago Way podcast that I co-host with WGN AM executive producer Jeff Carlin. I’m including a link here so you might read this and listen to his words.

“She was a four-sport athlete in high school, a natural athlete who didn’t really work at it She once turned an unassisted triple play in high school softball and then led off the next inning and hit a triple off the fence. She gets to third base and everybody’s going crazy and she looks at me in the stands, then looks at her (finger) nails. She says, ‘How long is this game gonna be? I want to go get my nails done.’ And I was ready to jump out of the stands because, you know, I was the classic overachiever. I was an athlete, but I didn’t have her skills, I had to work hard to do it.

“So, she gets into a car accident when she was a junior in high school. Her ankle got pulverized on the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey. The short story is they loaded her up with Oxycontin. And she suffered through 18 years of addiction.”

It was last May 29 he was having lunch when his ex-wife (Kyla’s mother) called. She was worried because she couldn’t reach her daughter and they speak almost every day.

 He called a friend, a police boss in the Bronx who sent out a couple of detectives.

“They got into her apartment and they overdosed from fentanyl. Her and her boyfriend…you send people to prison and they become better criminals. And it’s pretty much the same thing with rehab. Sometimes you send people to rehab and they hook up with other people who have the same problems, and they just keep doing the same things and this is the result. I’ve had a lot of tragedy in my life, trust me. But this one takes the cake. May 29th. And the guilt is overwhelming.”

“You know what really pisses me off is the fact that this year in this country there were 110,000 overdoses. And just to be clear in  our 10 year active war in Vietnam, we lost 58,000 Americans, and here we are last year the number as 110,000. And the vast majority is fentanyl and we don’t control our borders, it’s killing our kids.

“The precursors come from China to Mexico, right?, they get put together by the cartels and the pain is distributed in this country across the southern border. And nobody is doing anything about it. So I’m, I’m angry about it and I wanna do something about it, but at this point, you know, it’s it’s overwhelming and there’s not a lot that I could do certainly. Except try and make sure that my my other daughter and and my son don’t fall into the same trap.”

In many 12-step addiction programs the key is recognizing the problem. We know what the problem is:

China sends poison to the borders and the government of the United States has given up control of the borders to the narco-traffickers. The news media ignores the issue lest the news reflect poorly on President Joe Biden, who was to have been in charge of the borders. But he has lost all control.

Is this a function of Biden on the payroll of the China Communist Party? Or a host of other reasons including China’s brazen insolence in sending over the spy balloons and we did nothing for days as the surveillance balloons collected data. They are still collecting data. China and the Mexican drug cartels have killed more than 100,000 young Americans and we do nothing. The data they collect involves our will to live.

“We’ve had Chinese drugs coming into this country and killing people. What is the point of a narcotic that kills people? And they think they’re getting high. They disguise it as other things. It’s really clear to me that this is a major attack on the United States. They’re killing our children. The drugs are disguised as gummies. They disguised them as Sweet Tarts and all these various things to sneak them into the country and and people are dying and that and you know it’s all over the news but yet nobody seems to wanna take the bull by the horns and stand up and say OK this is an attack on the United States.”

Why do we put up with it? What we call the “news media” is definitely opposed to former President Donald Trump retaking the White House in 2024.  They loathe Trump and they loathe his supporters and seek to extract psychic revenge upon them, even to the point of cheering Joe Biden when he and his followers portray them as fascists.

But from what we’ve seen from the Southern border, we turn our throats to our enemy and give that enemy the most effective way to slip in the knife, as if we’re suicidal sheep.

We talked about many things. We talked of Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx who does not like prosecuting criminals and putting repeat violent offenders in prison lest they attack others. We talked of the difference of the Sen. Joe Biden who was once tough on crime and the President Joe Biden of today, who sits back and lets billionaire Marxist George Soros select his see-no-evil rogue prosecutors. We talked of famous Chicago police cases that led to the mayor’s office dropping police foot chases of criminals.

But we also talked about Kyla, and how he’s dealing with that hole in his heart. I asked him to consider writing about it, about her, about what happened if only to remind us again of what we seem to want to ignore:

That China and the Mexican Drug Cartels that control the Southwestern border have killed 100,000 young Americans. They’re slaughtering our young people, terrorizing law enforcement. This is an act of war and aggression. Hiding from that fact might soothe partisan politics, take editors off the hook, but it won’t deal with the issue.

Hiding from the issue won’t solve it. And only more young Americans will be poisoned.

“Writing about it might be cathartic for me,” McCarthy said. “I hope so.”

    Pray that you are healthy and doing well. Fentanyl is everywhere in our Streets, and Washington does not seem to care since the White House is involved in drugs and cocaine.
    The older I get the more realize there is not much we can do, the Country is becoming a Third World Country, Obama said that he would do just that, and he won twice while they call everyone a Racist, and his wife hates America. The truth will be exposed when Christ comes, and I will not watch TV or read the news anymore it is all about hatred, and destroying America. I was stunned the theatre (in North Aurora) was absolutely packed People in this country are hungry for the truth, and this movie exposes some of it. Tell your neighbors, friends, and strangers you strike up conversations with to go see this movie.   3. Garry McCarthy has always been a hero in my book. An honest and dedicated law and order guy, who has always understood that the entire point of it all is to protect the innocent. His loss is truly heartbreaking, especially in that it came from something he’s fought long and hard against during his career. The inner strength he has is exemplary.

    Losing a child, no matter the age, is unbearable. I lost a child at 33 years of age with a future of unlimited abilities within his grasp. He is my angel in heaven as Kyla is yours. God bless you.

Where are the virtuous ones who oppose the second amendment but say nothing about our open borders and the flow of these drugs into the United States?

    In Chicago, both Pritzker and Lightfoot seized every opportunity presented to them by an act of gun violence to grandstand their politics on behalf of the victims but never did you see them grandstanding against the reason for the much greater number of fentanyl deaths both here in Illinois or around the country.

    To do so would mean pointing their fingers at themselves.

The net gain of new voters coming over the border versus the loss of young American lives seems worth it to them. During Viet Nam, the term “acceptable losses” of American lives was used in justifying military engagement. Sadly, these fentanyl deaths may be just that.

Absolute tragedy, I can’t begin to imagine the horror this family endured through 18 years of a loved one’s addiction, but the myth that all the fentanyl coming to this country crosses the southern border is a grievance trigger perpetuated by right wing media. Fentanyl is crossing at land ports of entry up and down the west coast, Texas ports and through Canada. It’s a crisis, no question, but it’s yet another crisis exploited to keep the base angry.   18. If Garry McCarthy were to run for President, I would vote for him. I always have held him in high esteem and thought he did a great job in Chicago. Condolences to him and his family. We need someone like him in office to “drain the swamp” and take America back.

    What is happening at the border and with the corruptor in Chief is pretty hard to accept, isn’t it? Not one major news program even mentions this stuff. Americans are walking around with masks on still, or stoned, or worse. If you try to talk about any of this stuff with your Democrat friends they act like there is no problem. And this crazy administration, has let down hundreds of thousands of people and is directly responsible for his daughter‘s death in my opinion.     Mr John Kass, most of his readers here and elsewhere – we now have to get beyond just lamenting these terrible, tragic stories, noticing the near total corruption of Woke, Soros funded DA’s like our Kim Foxx, trying to appeal to the mainstream media to be more “fair” – not glorify opioid, meth, crack cocaine hard drug dealers like Saint (not) George Floyd but instead tell the true stories of gone too soon Kyla McCarthys. And then there’s the distractions of 5 days a week college (in name only) Football, NFL Football.

    I have been doing what you are doing now John Kass for ~ 30 years when I was left behind in New York City being a Public School teacher, later earning (didn’t work for me) an MBA from the #1 MBA program in the USA. This was in the late 1980s.

    I lived in New York City when there were over 2,000 murders in one year, tourists from Utah being murdered on the NYC subway, that Central Park Jogger gang raped and left for dead (all but one of the rapists got off thanks to race hustler Rev. NOT Al Sharpton and DA Robert Morganthau) .

    I lived at Avenue A and 12th street – 2 blocks away there was a Dominican Crack Cocaine Houses “THE ROCK” where the drug gang was cutting off people’s heads!

    I had worked on mainstream Republican, Conservatives circles and contacted everyone I knew to try to tell them what was happening, how they had to “WAKE UP” and do something – DO SOMETHING. These horrors were happening in our cities in our country – where the fuc* was the US Military ?

    I went to Grad school a block and a half from the World Trade Center and left NYC shortly before the Islamic terrorists bombed, slaughtered our people there the first time in 1993 – I predicted these terrorist attacks, slaughters in NYC and elsewhere.

    And then in 1991 under a supposedly “Conservative” ex CIA chief George HW Bush Sr “tough on Crime” , Not like the ACLU Liberal Mike Dukakis who let a murderer Willie Horton go on an unsupervised Weekend pass and Will proceeds to do a home invasion, rape and torture a regular middle class woman. This Conservative GOP USA President Bush allows gang members to riot, loot murder Korean grocers in the Rodney King LA riots.

    And then there were the first of many, oh so many distractions of false patriotic Neo Conservative war, interventions in Iraq, Bush Jr would do the same.

    90% plus Conservative support, GOP support for these fake patriotic wars, interventions in Iraq, Syria, Serbia and now Ukraine, Russia.

    And what do we do?

    We try to tell the teacher, try to let Conservatives, let the MSM media, Conservative churches like the LDS Mormons know about these 100,000 plus opioid Fentanyl deaths.

Trump asked Christian Coalition former Trump VP Mike Pence that our cities were all collapsing in to brutal suicides, drug addict homeless, drugs disease and despair and he – Mike Pence seemed not to be paying attention or seemed just not to care instead Pence wanted to continues to waste tens of $ billions sending tanks to Ukraine to fight…

    There are simple real things we can do like to protests outside the Mexican and Chi Communist consulates here in Chicago.

    We can set up scholarships in Kyla McCarthy’s name for teenage girls to strictly ovoid all opioids, do a concerted campaign to all metro Chicago doctors to never proscribe opioid pain killers like Oxycontin – to demand the USA military now fight as in KILL DEAD the Sinnola drug cartel.

    Why wasn’t “El Chapo” executed – wasn’t he in a Chicago prison. Where is he now? How about his whor* girl friend?

    Again, we need to make this…

    Don’t just complain about supposedly all evil, all powerful institutions like “The Liberal Media”, “The Cartels”, “The Woke Democrats”, “the Military Industrial National Defense complex” that does NOTHING to defend our nation, defend our border.

    We need to….

    Name names – confront real enemies and traitors like former Trump VP Mike Pence.

    Don’t just confine our opposition threatening not to vote for Pence or other traitors – that’s not what the Left does to get what they want and they are, yeah, winning getting what they want, taking over politics, education even (non) law enforcement in all our cities.

    I’m game to actually do something here in Chicago, metro Chicago.

  25. And El Chapo – the $ billionaire leader of arguably THE worst opioid Mexican drug cartel – we didn’t kill him and drag his body through our drug ravaged streets like we would in a real “War against drugs”.

  26. That was heartbreaking to read but I’m glad you wrote it. We’re losing more people from overdose deaths in a year than we lost in Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq combined.
