RFK Jr. Pops Kamala’s Pretty Balloon

by John Kass

Aug. 25, 2024

Have you ever watched a child reaching for a red balloon?

First comes the wide-eyed wonder, the giddiness, the excitement. But when the balloon pops, and they always do, then comes the silent cry.

The hands come up to the head in anguish in the way of all primates. The mouth opens but there is no sound. It is the silent cry. Then come the tears as the remains of the popped balloon just sit there on the floor.

If you don’t feel for a child saddened by a popped balloon you have no heart.

But Kamala Harris, who was Joe Biden’s running mate, is no child. She’s the Democrat presidential nominee who talks like a tough badass prosecutor. And she apprenticed in the political arts under California badass Democrat boss Willie Brown, so she knows all about elbows and kicking butt.

And yet her balloon was popped by Robert Kennedy Jr. the independent third-party presidential candidate from the legendary Kennedy family. He dropped out of the race on Friday and endorsed former President Donald J. Trump in the November election. And just like that her momentum from the Democrat National Convention in Chicago was interrupted, then broken. The balloon burst. Tears to follow.

The 2020 election was extremely close in popular vote that decided the key battleground states.  Back then old Joe was polling higher than Harris polls  today. Kennedy’s endorsement of Trump is a significant event.

In his speech in Arizona endorsing Trump, Kennedy said:

“The DNC deployed aligned judges to throw me and other candidates off the ballot and to throw President Trump in jail. It ran a sham primary that was rigged to prevent any serious challenge to President Biden. Then, when a predictably bungled debate performance precipitated the palace coup against President Biden, the same shadowy DNC operatives appointed his successor, also without an election. They installed a candidate who was so unpopular with voters that she dropped out in 2020 without winning a single delegate,” Kennedy said.

“My uncle and my father both relished debate. They prided themselves on their capacity to go toe-to-toe with any opponent in the battle over ideas. They would be astonished to learn of a Democratic Party presidential nominee who, like Vice President Harris, has not appeared in a single interview or unscripted encounter with voters for 35 days. This is profoundly undemocratic. How are people to choose when they don’t know whom they are choosing, and how must this look to the rest of the world?”

“Instead of showing us her substance and character, the DNC and its media organs engineered a surge of popularity for Vice President Harris based on, well, nothing—no policies, no interviews, no debates—only smoke and mirrors and balloons in a highly-produced Chicago circus,” he said.

“How did the Democratic Party choose a candidate who has never done an interview or a debate during the entire election cycle? We know the answers. They did it by weaponizing government agencies. They did it by abandoning democracy,” Kennedy said. “They did it by silencing the opposition and by disenfranchising American voters. What most alarms me isn’t how the Democratic Party conducts its internal affairs or runs its candidates. What alarms me is the resort to censorship and media control and the weaponization of federal agencies.”

Can any serious person dispute what Kennedy said? She is the Democratic presidential nominee, beneficiary of the Obama coup that rid the Democrats of old Joe Biden. They pushed him off the stage in Chicago, and forensic experts studying the convention floor should find Biden’s skid marks any day now.

They really loved Joe?  The congenital liar Bill Clinton said Joe gave up power willingly. Obama, who pushed him out, said Joe was decent. Nancy Pelosi wanted to put Biden up on Mt. Rushmore. Oprah Winfrey said the convention was an ode to joy. Michelle Obama, she of the many mansions, warned us about greed, to not take too much. What have the Obamas done for the black community? Nothing. Hillary Clinton? Hillary took care of Hillary.

On that stage in Chicago, all the big mouths flapping their lips did was to reinforce the truth of the convention in Chicago: It was all complete fantasy.

No policy, no explanation of her plans that would fundamentally change the nature of America. No discussion, no acknowledgement. No mention of the 3.5 years she served as vice president in an administration that opened the borders allowing illegals inside.

The way the Democrats stuffed all reality into the Memory Hole was amazing: She  wasn’t vice president, she was born in a peach blossom, and the dew was her baptism.

Nothing but feelings and abortion and anti-Trump hysteria. Nothing but feelings. And more feelings. And joy and giddiness and feelings.

My friend Dan Proft, the conservative Chicago radio talk show host, has talked about people that rely only on feelings and emotion. This addiction to sentimentality leads them, inexorably he says, to the gas chamber.

Can a nation live on feelings? Kamala Harris and Obama who’ll use her as a foolish wooden puppet to run his fourth term think feelings alone can win her the election.

How did the Democratic Party choose a candidate who has never done an interview or a debate during the entire election cycle? We know the answers. They did it by weaponizing government agencies. They did it by abandoning democracy.

“None of it is real,” writes John Daniel Davidson of the Federalist. “The DNC has all the trappings of a major political party convention but without any of the substance. Not a single Democrat voter cast a primary ballot for Vice President Kamala Harris, yet Democrats are going through the motions as if that’s exactly what happened.”

Laughing, they all ran after the red balloon. MSNBC and CNN and the New York Times and the broken Chicago papers, and ABC, NBC, CBS, NPR and others who’ve given up on journalism and facts.

And then came RFK Jr., who endorsed Trump which benefit the Republicans in close battle ground states, from Wisconsin, and Michigan, Georgia and Arizona and others.

Real Clear Politics co-founder and president Tom Bevan and other poll experts say RFK helps Trump by dropping out. He has sound judgement. And I agree with him:

You don’t need a crying child to know what is happening to the Kamala vibes balloon. Obama and the Democrat bosses shoved her down Democrat throats. And RFK Jr. took a pin to it by dropping out in the battleground states, where Kennedy had been picking up between 4-6 points and endorsing Trump.

Will this win Trump the election? I can’t say.

But what I do know is that after the Hopium clears, beginning Monday people will go to the grocery store and buy expensive food. They’ll have to pump gas. They’ll think about Kamala not bothering to explain or do interviews.

And Kamala Harris and her corporate media suck ups will tell you they’re not concerned, and that Kennedy is crazy.

And now after the week of fantasy in Chicago, it is the time for the silent cry and tears.

But that’s politics. Just like balloons are part of politics.

And tears, too.

Kass note: Five columns this week and a couple podcasts, including the Megyn Kelly Show and The Chicago Way podcast.

Kinda like the old days.

    1. ok
It’s been a long tough week for this old man. Betty has been on me to chill, so have many of you. I get it. I don’t want another stroke and heart attack. So we’ll see.

      1. John, we all have to come to that part in life where someone, extremely dear to you, KNOWS your needs and has your 6s. Listen to Betty she not only knows you, but shares the love and same abode. God bless you Betty, take good care of that rascal we all love.
John, listen to her….God bless you also.
        Tom

      2. Definitely take it a little easier! In your defense, the political stuff this week was coming in thickly and swiftly. People couldn’t turn their heads without…Yep! There’s another thing on which to report and comment! Hopefully, next week will be easier, especially with Labor Day weekend on the horizon.

      3. Let’s face it- Kamala Harris is the modern day real life equivalent of Chance the gardener portrayed by Peter Sellers in one of his last films… this whole thing is so f….ed up that she will say absolutely nothing pertaining to her policies and positions while Trump, not afraid of the microphone or opinions will bury himself . He will be pushed further off the edge by a very biased pro democratic media- I hope something happens to prove me wrong

  1. The Democrats are running the same campaign as they did in 2020 when they hid Biden in the basement. Those of us who willing to pay attention knew how that would work out. If Biden had not messed up in the debate, they would have found another way get rid of him before the election. The Democrats have exposed themselves as the real threats to democracy, but are the masses paying attention? Of course not, it is almost time for football season to start, and that is more important. After all, didn’t bread and circuses work for the Romans for a while? Good article, John, but the masses are not listening and short of a smack in the face, they won’t. It is too much bother to think about their own best interests and thinking is not as entertaining as sitting like blobs in front of the TV.

    1. Nancy once said you have to pass the bill to see what is in it. Now, we apparently have to elect Kamala to see what she actually stands for. At least with Trump he tells you what he is for and against.

    2. John L. You are correct that almost 50% of the voting population is about bread and circuses, oh wait, I mean Vibes and Joy! They are driven to distraction by a media fixed on enabling elite control. The progressive elites (they’re democrats in name only now) hate RFK Jr. because he is speaking truth about what is happening and truth is contrary to controlling the masses with distractions or even worse, taught cognitive dissonance!

  2. Thanks John and I agree with the previous comment about you not overdoing it.

I do miss the old days when I could get both your column and the crossword puzzle from the Trib. But at least I can still get your column.

    1. i miss the old days when I wrote four a week with a mid-morning radio show and was basically exhausted? not really but I get you Mark Olszewski. Thank you sir. I won’t overdo. Thanks for the reminder

  3. I still don’t understand why Trump agreed to debate Biden so early in the campaign.
Everybody knew the old geezer was declining fast and by exposing this so early, the democrat’s had more time to re-shuffle the deck. I doubt that RFK’s endorsement’s going to matter that much.

  4. Five columns this week and a couple podcasts, including the Megyn Kelly Show and The Chicago Way podcast.

And I just heard a rumor that you’ll be the guest co-host on the Dan Proft morning talk radio show tomorrow Monday 8/26.

    1. ok ok ok. I am tired. I didn’t stop even when I WAS ON VACATION. What kind of crazy doesn’t take vacation for 15 years, has health issues and then works during his vacation. I guess I am a Chumbolone.
But I do have a James Banakis column to run to give me a breather.

    2. Jim,
Did you attend OPRFHS? Mr. Reis’ home room 315? You sat either right in front of me or somewhere close by. I have enjoyed the columns you have written and your comments. Will try your restaurant someday.

      John,
I am a long time reader/fan and will not forgive the Tribune for what they did. It’s only good for reading the obituaries.
Excellent column as usual. I am happy to see your writing appear on Real Clear Politics. But as your wife has said—you need to chill a bit.

  5. I recall when Pelosi valiantly stated if you want to know what’s in the bill you have to pass it. So is that same thought plan here again? If you want to know what Kamala stands for you have to elect her?
What’s amusing is the lefts crying about democracy. Will the left be willing to wheel Kamala away with her balloon if she doesn’t meet their expectations?
I’m still confused as to why she’s the candidate.
I did laugh at the balloon comments. I recalled buying balloons for my children. Those helium filled balloons that either were accidentally let go of, or they were put in car with the child and it obstructed my rear view mirror.
    Thanks for your words.

  6. Balloon popping…..I hope! There’s still too much than can happen between now and election day; plus too much early voting beforehand. Many people either hate Trump so much they’ll never vote for him or will vote for anyone with a d. in front of the name. I can also remember back to 2016 when so many women were so enamored with the idea of the first woman president that they voted for the highly flawed, corrupt, and mostly failed Hillary Clinton. American presidential elections are like a football game played between the 45-yard lines {only Reagan in 84 got as much as 60% of the vote in my lifetime}. ‘Lanslides’ are a myth and a very small number of votes will determine this election.
We’ve had many surprises already – Biden dropped out, an assassination attempt – will there be a major terrorist attack before November? A high profile crime by a migrant? A market crash? A major scandal? How will the debates go? What will the weather be like on election day? It isn’t over until it’s over!

  7. Great column as always, and I agree with the don’t overdo it comments- you’re much to valuable to endanger your recovery. What scares me is how many people will buy into this “Joy” nonsense, like the ones who bought into the “Hope and Change” thing years ago. That one didn’t work out too well for this country.

And the show of how sad they were to see Biden leave made me sick- that took hypocrisy and dishonesty to an entirely new level, and the cheering idiots bought it.

  8. Perusing x.com, noted that the Left is considering one of their dreadful ‘fact-checks’ of RFK’s claims that the Democrats are bypassing democracy to try to win the election. No concerns about RFK’s rather aggressive claims about healthcare and childhood diseases, they just want to gig him for stating the obvious fact that the D’s didn’t run a fair primary, and they don’t want a fair election.

  9. It ain’t over till it’s over (Y. Berra). Whst happenes if the Dems lose. Will Kamala and Joe as figurehead stay ensconced. In the WH? Will there be a peaceful
Transition of power. Will the WH and associated offices and agencies sabotage as they leave like in 2016? Will the Dems declare the election invalid?
They have too much to lose if Trump elected. Will Donald turn the tables and wespomizw the DOJ? No matter we are in for a tough several months and years. God help us. And John, don’t overdo!

  10. “Michelle, she of the many mansions, warned us about greed, to not take too much. ” One of the most moving experiences I have ever had was touring the Eisenhower farm in Gettysburg. This unassuming home with modest furnishings, (except for the living room decorated with gifts he received from foreign nations,) made you realize that the leader of one of the greatest armies in history, two term president, lived like almost any other man. A working farm. Small rooms with normal furnishings. A testament to real service to his country. He was the first president I remember getting elected. Times have really changed. Take care you don’t do too much, John! But at a time like this, we can’t do too little, either!

  11. Great column and the balloon reference is perfect. Your public loves you and we are always pray for you and your family. I understand work can be therapeutic so be mindful of yourself🙏 I feel like the plan is to keep Kamala under wraps and hope Donald chokes in the debate. If he can keep quiet and let her speak I think that will be another popped balloon for her. Shocker that there isn’t much coverage on Kennedy dropping out Friday.

  12. How did the Democrat power brokers manage to find a candidate even less serious than President Magoo? RFK Jr. represented what those brokers have corrupted of his uncle’s Democrat Party in noting that “They did it by by weaponizing government agencies. They did it by abandoning democracy,”

Kass’ reference to the Dan Proft point about Democrat reliance on feelings and emotion is Chicago-smart. Nitwit emotion allows Democrats to keep feeling the love for their balloon head presidents, playthings adequate for their parties. And the new giggling version will work if there are again enough balloon head voters.

Optimism confirms that Comments here urging Kass not to “overdo” it refer to workload, not style. Grand Mahler symphonies and Shakespeare tragedies don’t overdo the message. And I’ve never wished a Kass column were shorter or less hard-hitting.

  13. I find when things bother me if I write them down and I am able to get past them. Surprised you weren’t writing two columns a day. Thanks for putting into words what so many of us were thinking, as usual.

  14. RFK Jr gave a wonderful speech on the current state of the Democratic Party and the media. CNN didn’t even bother to broadcast it. Worse they launched a series of personal attacks to destroy the person. RFK Jr’s speech was full of important issues that should be debated. If you think he is wrong make a counter arguement. But Democrats and their media lapdogs ignore the issues and attack the person.

  15. Mr. Kass,
Don’t over do it. Like reading you and better if you are hale and hardy.

If I were President Trump, I’d let RFKjr to spread the anti-Democrat Party Gospel. Can’t let it become a sour grapes scenario, but RFKjr message is one that needs to be spread far and wide.

The DNC reminded me of a country club ouster. Where all the swells back stab and then have a good bye party calling the poor schlub kicked out a great guy or pillar of the community. Wink Wink, Nod Nod.

    Shade of the Politburo.

  16. Tony Cesare: This from FiveThirtyEight, which has Harris up 47.3% to Trumps 43.2%: “Our analysis of the polling data suggests Kennedy’s endorsement of Trump will have a minimal impact on the race. His endorsement of Trump may marginally help the Republican among white, male, and older voters. But the effect of his departure on overall support for either candidate will be small.” Hardly a balloon pop. Moreover he’s, well, crazy. A science denier and conspiracy theorist who had a parasitic worm in his brain (explains so much..) and bragged about dumping a dead bear cub in a NY park. No one ever took him seriously, no reason to start now. Again, there were many genuinely qualified GOP candidates (Haley) but Trump’s GOP keeps dragging out old, white authoritarians. That ship has sailed.

  17. John, another column providing great perspective “unburdened by what has been”.
Things are getting trending so bad, that The Economist just published what should be unthinkable: who wins a nuclear war between the US and China?
The power vacuum created by an absent and weak president coupled with a squishy foreign policy over the last 4 years has emboldened so many countries and enemies to rise up and challenge western democratic republics and in particular the US.

    https://apple.news/AfffdwdfQQ629iz-xuAPU4g

  18. Vintage and classic Kass, thank you. The “Hopium” and “Camelot” wings of the former Democrat party are now openly engaged in civil war. The apostate Kennedy clan siblings of RFK, Jr. criticize him, but history will affirm his rebuke was correct in every detail. And Obama seethes.

  19. Five columns and a couple of podcasts. Outstanding, it’s like Christmas in late August. I miss the old days but I agree with others about overdoing it. I’m sure your family will help with that.
Today’s column was excellent and spot on & I hope a lot of people share it. We have to find a way to get more people to pay attention and learn what’s going on. The people who only get their news from the legacy media on the nightly TV news are being grossly mislead. A suggestion if I may. We haven’t heard from Charles Lipson in a while. I enjoy it when you and Jeff get together with Charles.

  20. Maybe at least a few of those that voted in the primary for Biden had to know that they were actually voting for Harris. Some of them had to have concluded that there was no way Joe would make it through four more years and hence she’d assume the figurehead position. But them not seeing that coming, well, they are the masters of unintended consequences.
John, with the heavier work schedule, a little intermittent fly rod therapy will be good for body and soul.

  21. Γιαννάκη,
Σιγά, σίγα! Pace yourself, and take a breath. We’re here for you – always! We can only imagine what’s now going on behind the
Obama of Oz curtain – maybe the DOJ will endesvor to manufacture another fake charge against RFK to diminish his standing? Only God knows…and I pray He’s watching over us all!! Παναγία μαζί σου!!

  22. Excellent article John. And please don’t overdo it, we will need your words in the coming weeks.

I’ll never understand how everyday Democrats can continue to believe that Donald Trump is the threat to Democracy, when the DNC hasn’t had a fair presidential election the last two cycles. The powerbrokers chose Biden and then told him Harris was his VP, and were frustrated when Joe hung in there almost the entire 4 years. They thought they’d just install Harris back in 2021 or 22 at the latest. After the unscripted debate showed Biden’s weakness, he conveniently got “Covid” so he could be rushed home (to recuperate”) where he could receive instructions to drop out. Paving the way for an unelected Harris, who was perceived less desirable than Biden, to be installed. And they (general democrats) went along with it!

Now all the bells and whistles, feel good promises of “free” stuff, loans forgiven, 25K to new home buyers, etc etc will convince the uniformed and youth to vote for Harris.

Everyone notice how the interest rates are dropping? Gas prices are coming down? Convenient huh? I fear for our future.

  23. Obama has been running coups since 1996 when Alice Palmer never saw it coming! In her honor we should use her name as a verb – Joe Biden was Alice Palmered by Obama and Pelosi and Schumer.

  24. The dnc has watched the dem party in Chicago for 100 years…and 100 years of no to very little opposition…so the dnc is now practicing what the Chi dems have done for years and both remind me of the adage…
Power corrupts. Absolute Power corrupts absolutely.
The boldness of dictating by the Chi dems has given the dnc a blueprint for governing…snub you nose at the law…remember how the Il supreme court ruled that Rahm’s residence was actually Chi Town…when it wasn’t…pack the courts so when you lose at the ballot box the courts will always rule in your favor…and attack your opposition…not their ideas but their person, tax people beyond their means and get elected a mayor who cares not for people but the Chi dems.

  25. Right on the money John…I like your latest metaphor. I listened to RFK the other day and he made more sense than anybody else lately in summing up the deceit, duplicity, and amount of lying BS the Dems have been spewing for several election cycles now. He hit the “nail on the head”. The Democrats are truly the enemies of Democracy. Biden sucked but he earned and deserved the opportunity to face the voters .

  26. Excellent column, John. First and foremost, have a chill week. You deserve it!
I know we informed readers can see this, but I’ll put this out there anyway: The
Dem playbook is to blame Trump and the GOP for what they are guilty of …that Donald Trump is a threat to democracy (wink wink, it’s really us, we hope you ate stupid enough to see this). Kamala’s unicorn and rainbow devotees won’t change course. So, let’s hope that Trump and Kennedy’s message permeates the electorate. We must stop Obama from a 4th term in office.

  27. I have no respect for VP Harris and no intention of voting for her.

Having said that I believe everyone other than her family is not voting For her, they are voting against Trump.

Shades of 2016, careful what you wish for. The Dems are running the only campaign they can for now.

The debates should be telling but regardless of how inept she might come off Trump is his own worst enemy.

Is this really the best we can do?

      1. OK John. You mentioned studying civics. So think about this as your new civic’s lesson. The neo con Haley would likely beat the neo marxist Harris. Trump will not. And with that will come (given a likely capture of both Senate and House by the Dems) a “packed” Supreme Court, two more Democratic Senators from the new state of DC, sanctioning of men in woman’s sports via Title IX, more intrusion of the Department of Education in our kid’s education, more (if you can believe that) public sector union hegemony, a likely federal law ensuring the “right to abortion” on demand (hey with a packed SCOTUS it will pass constitutional muster), and many more Democratic Party dreams will finally become reality. I’ll take the neo con Haley any day over Harris.

        1. With the caveat that I’m the LAST person you want agreeing with you, but for what it’s worth, I do. The cult of Trump ends in November, and the GOP will be better for it, provided he doesn’t orchestrate another riot.

  28. John! Column is spot on and worthy of an interview on the topic with WSJ or Fox. Thanks for all the hard work writing and podcasting, but pace yourself please! I agree with the comments, your audience wants you to stay able to engage. Time for some R&R!

  29. When I read Dan Proft’s words about people that rely only on feelings and emotion, first thing that comes to my mind is my old 3rd world country where people vote only the same way, on feelings and emotion, till to date. Now, if only our damned old fool Trump watches his mouth till election……… My only wish is he heeds to Nikki Haley’s caring words.

    Nambi

  30. Great column.
Betty is right: Chill John Chill.
I would prefer to read two of your columns a week rather than none at all.

One thing I know for sure – Winter is Coming.
    Game of Thrones anyone?

  31. Hello John.

I join the chorus is saying that you have been burning the candle at both ends lately and in asking you to pace yourself and ease back on the throttle.

I fear that unless the points made in this column are disseminated nation-wide, the effect will be minimal. The mainstream media and their “journalists” will not press Harris/Walz on the issues or their policies. The fact that CNN, “[t]he most trusted name in news,” opted not to broadcast RFK Jr.’s was telling. Also telling was Colbert’s audience’s reaction a few weeks ago when he prefaced a question to a CNN talking head by saying that CNN is objective. That loud laughter emanating from a predominately New York liberal audience revealed that even they recognized CNN’s bias.

I suppose that, in the end, it all comes down to Trump’s behavior – will he listen to his advisers, including Nikki Haley and Tulsi Gabbard (in hindsight, either would have looked good on the ticket), or will he continue to name call and rehash old grievances …. much to the delight of his opponents?

  32. Wouldn’t it be great to have Comrade Kamala agree to a debate with John Kass as moderator? hmm.
Great column John Kass and thank you for your words as always. Your “kinda like the old days” creates that old time feeling here also….thank you ever so much.
God bless you John Kass and take good care….keep on keeping on.
    Tom

  33. Mr Kass –

I hope you are correct. I’m counting on a debate performance where Harris’s lack of intelligence and grasp of the issues exposes her as the poor candidate for president that she is. I also can’t wait to see Walsh and Vance debate, but I do not think it will occur. My money is on some ‘new information coming to light’ in the NYT or WaPo concerning Walsh and he is required to resign so that Governor Shapiro takes his place.

  34. Biden was pushed out only after the assassination of Donald Trump failed. Had the Deep State, with assist from the Secret Service succeeded, Biden would have stayed in the so called “election” since the Republicans would have to cobble together another campaign in haste. The Supreme Court would not delay the election. Assuming Biden won, he would then have resigned enabling Harris ascension the presidency. Harris would then be a president that was never elected. Never won a primary. Nor any delegates. A president by appointment. That was the plan. Yes this country was mere centimeters from this becoming reality. Just centimeters. The Democrats claim they are dedicated to safeguarding our “Democracy”. They are, aren’t they?

      1. You know the old saying about poker. If you don’t know who the mark is then YOU’RE the mark. I believe the assassination attempt on Trump was a random set of circumstances that coalesced to enable the shooter to climb a roof in open and plain sight. Yes, the rifle must have been left there by careless roofers. I believe the job numbers that came out during the coronation only off by 800,000 was a paperwork mistake. The 22+ people shot on the streets of Chicago during the lovefest was not reported by local news since it wasn’t newsworthy. If you say it’s true then it must be. Believe what you tell me not what I see. And that nitwit Cesare, or whatever he calls himself thesedays doesn’t even merit a response.

        1. Enrique: You raise some interesting points. How does one distinguish between incompetence v conspiracy? Is there a point where it is impossible to do so? What’s worse: thinking the country is run by evil men and woman vs thinking (as I do) that the country is run by absolutely incompetent inept idiots and the Trump assassination attempt was exhibit “A” proving that so. I would also suggest that our idiot culture has been turbocharged by DEI … again as demonstrated by the supreme incompetence of the USSS and their (former) clueless inept idiot leader. If true, then, by Occam’s razor I don’t need to invoke conspiracy to explain a confluence of random events assisted by inept incompetent clueless idiots. I guess in some ways, my viewpoint, is even a scarier scenario than a planned conspiracy.

          1. Mr. Kleinman- Yes, I think the assassination attempt debacle is better explained by incompetence than conspiracy. Also we should keep in mind that Trump was a candidate and not the president at the time. I have to believe a sitting president would have been better protected. No excuse but just saying.

      2. Mr. Lee. In regard to your statement that you have to believe that a sitting president would have been protected better (than a mere opposition candidate) … well you don’t know that. In the absence of access to the USSS plans protecting a sitting president – which are likely highly confidential – your statement is one of mere belief … speculation on your part, absent any evidence. The evidence we do have – in this one case – points to unimaginable ineptness. Whether such incompetence, ineptness and pure idiocy would have carried over to protecting a sitting president is unknown.

I would also suggest that your speculation implies conspiracy. How? Well given that Donald Trump is arguably the most divisive major party opposition presidential nominees in American history, it would not be a stretch to think he would be a likely assassination target. Despite this, the USSS acted as they did … seemingly unconcerned by this plausible threat scenario. Conspiracy by indifference?

  35. Can Donald Trump be a policy wonk at the debate? Policy and accuracy. Facts, not insults. No empty generalities like “Sad!”
The election’s a toss-up. Play to win, not to get applause from the choir.

    1. Mr. Coon- Donald Trump won’t be able to stick to facts because, besides illegal border crossings, the facts mostly don’t support what he’s been saying. He relies on gaslighting and buffoonery which sadly has worked for him . . . so far.

    2. Mr. Coon. Donald Trump is many things. But one thing he is not: a policy wonk. He never was and never will be. But fortunately for him he does not have to be a policy wonk to excoriate Ms. Harris on her inane illegal disastrous immigration policy and the wide open southern border (remember she was the “Border Czar”). You don’t have to be policy wonk to excoriate her ludicrous (and illegal) economic policies such as student loan forgiveness and unabashed federal spending … which by the way has led to the highest inflation in 40 years. And you don’t have to be a policy wonk to excoriate her solution to high food prices: prices controls. Now that is true idiocy. Even her water carriers at the WaPO were shocked … “shocked I tell you.” And there is so much more too.
