Joe Biden’s Long Goodbye
What is the Joe Biden Democrat legacy? Lies and using the government hammer to make their fortune as they sold their country to foreign powers like China.
That is the Biden legacy.
It was always lies with China Joe. He’ll always be a liar. He was a liar 50 years ago when he used his brother as the bagman and he’s a liar now as a senile old man, with his son Hunter as the family bagman.
They’re old school Democrats, and so they’ve always been grifters as well. The Biden Crime Family have been grifters for a half century, using Democrat politics and the government hammer to build their fortunes, taking treasure from foreign oligarchs in China, Russia, Ukraine and elsewhere while wrapping themselves up in American patriotic virtue. And they’ve also taken from American tech oligarchs like Mark Zuckerberg and others who paid the Bidens big-time by helping them suppress legitimate news stories to protect Biden Inc. ,and the Biden hold on power.
And after all they’ve done, Joe and Jill are the ones who are the guardians of democracy? I don’t think so.
Part of the Biden genius has been to corrupt their allies. So the Democrat Party from Barack Obama on down lied to us to keep Biden as a figurehead in power. They shouted down and threatened anyone who would dare tell the truth to the American people. He was their meat puppet, yes, a dangerous meat puppet with nuclear codes setting the world on fire. But he was their meat puppet.
Years ago, when I first called him a meat puppet, I was harassed by left wing media writers (is their any other kind?) They asked that I respect the office of the presidency. But Joe didn’t respect it, did he? He spat on it.
In Joe Biden, America has never seen a politician so wedded to lies. The Biden lies oozed from him unbidden. And thanks to the Federalist online magazine, we have a comprehensive list of his lies.
“Let’s get something in mind about the border: When I became president, the numbers came way down,” Biden told reporters.
No, Joe, the numbers went way up. You had invited the world to surge the border and the world did as you asked. Your administration kept telling us that the border was secure. It wasn’t. That cost you the election.
The White House lied for him. Obama’s Deep State lied for him pushing the world to the very edge of nuclear war. He is the Idiot Wind.
And Monday, as President Donald Trump takes the oath of office, our long national nightmare with China Joe Biden will finally be over. But is it the time, as Democrats demand, of letting bygones be bygones? No. Not yet. Did the Democrats ease their boots from our throats? Not because of their kindness, but of necessity. Their shock troops in the left wing corporate media are weak and in disarray.
So if you’re asking me to let the old man fade into senility, I’m sorry. I just can’t. The Democrats carried the lie, perpetuated the lie and now we’re supposed to show respect to the feeble politician just because he’s a senile old man?
No. I can’t do that after all the Democrats have done. Throw a shroud on him. He’s done. But I won’t reward them. Yes, I know many of you are tired and want this coming week to be one of unity and celebration as Donald J. Trump is sworn into office, again. I want this to be a unifying moment for my countrymen who are exhausted. I get it.
But first I think there should be a reckoning.
There can be no forgiveness without admission of guilt. There can be no redemption without first confession. And the Democrats have much to seek forgiveness for.
There must be a reckoning for what they’ve done, from lying about the border to lying about justice, turning the Department of Justice into his political hit squad. And there is so much more for the Democrats to reckon with, including Democrats standing against the rule of law to thwart legitimate deportations of illegals that entered the country illegally and committed terrible crimes. And a reckoning for the more than 300,000 children lost to the sex traffickers on the border.
And beginning this week, look for the corrupt corporate legacy media to go into full “resistance mode.”
But the liberal media won’t ever be able to recover. The stench of their relationship propping up Joe still emanates from their pores, like a drunken eaters of raw garlic passed out in a steam bath.
As the corporate media claps its paws like trained squirrels, demanding “unity” and pouting when they don’t get it like the cynical TV leftist shrews of “The View,” please consider the cynicism of the American Intelligence officers who lied for Joe Biden, the Shameless 51.
To his lies that the Southern border was secure, to all those lies he heaped on the American plate in his farewell address, the shameless corporate legacy media that I was once a part of praised him and locked the gates of hell upon themselves. What we once called the corporate media is now dead. You heard the eulogies in their praise of Biden’s cheap farewell speech.
“I think that was maybe one of the best speeches I’ve ever heard Joe Biden give,” said former Obama adviser and CNN commentator David Axelrod.
Really, David? One of the greatest speeches? Like the one in which he stood before the blood red wall in Philadelphia in 2022, and accused Republicans of being threats to the republic?
“Maga Republicans do not respect the Constitution,” said Biden. “They do not believe in the rule of law… and they’re working right now as I speak, in state after state, to give power to decide elections in America, to partisans and cronies, empowering election deniers to undermine democracy itself.”
Democrats always reveal themselves and the Banana Republic they wanted when they project their fears.
Remember that it was Axelrod’s cynical use of media that created Obama. And it was Obama who fantasized, after he left office, about having his very own meat puppet and telling that meat puppet what to say.
That meat puppet was Joe Biden.
So yes, I want a reckoning. For the liar in chief, and for all his trolls and enablers.
I love the United States of America, and there must be a reckoning.

The reckoning must begin with Nancy. After coordinating Jan 6th, to insider trading, to selling all of us so she can stock her $20 million SF townhouse with fancy ice cream. Then go from there; such as Garland, Wray, Pennetta, etc. The list is VERY long.
BINGO.
I think Jill ought to be brought up on Elder abuse charges as well. She’s as complicit in this cover up of his health as anyone.
I totally agree. It’s disgusting that the matriarch of the Biden family let this happen.
Exactly
Question: Joe Biden shamelessly pardoned his drug-addled son. Can Hunter be compelled down the road to testify against his Daddy—assuming Joe is ever charged with selling his office to China, Russia, etc., in return for bribes? Help me out, John.
Larry Kurtz, how did Nancy Pelosi coordinate Jan. 6? Just asking.
Huzzah! In 24 Hours this great nation will earn back its laurels and accountability will return to government.
Thanks you, John Kass, for your heroic part in returning the American voice to the American people!
The one thing we really didn’t get about the Democrat hard left until the last year or so:
They hate our guts.
And we hope to return the favor.
No redemption without confession… not gonna happen. So absolutely, time to return the favor.
John I would say go after the “small fish” first. The ones not able to pay for good defense lawyers like the J6 crowd and work up the food chain and by the time the 2028 election time rolls around the ‘Big Fish’ will be flopping around the bottom of the 14′ Alumacraft and scaring all the other fish away. Keep up the righteous fight !!
Getting those “small fish” is the way to go. Without a way to defend themselves, they will be offering information as they throw themselves on the mercy of the court. This is the only way to get to all the ones that were pardoned – find those laws that they are possibly still breaking.
These pardons is an admission of guilt. 45 didn’t pardon any of his family. The Biden Crime family has now set a precedent to all future Presidents – do what you want and pardon all in the end.
Pat Hickey __ John Kass __ our US Constitution hasn’t endured this much abuse since the Woodrow Wilson era.
Prosecute. The list is long, but those criminals need to feel the consequences of their actions. Otherwise, it truly is a two-tiered justice system, one lenient system for the elites and one for everyone else, the chumbalones. A common thief might have a few hundred victims over his career, but these democrats made all of us victims, the have millions of victims. And we’re supposed to look the other way? No. Prosecute them.
Jail sentences for all of them — I’d love to set this up.
John – great column as always, and you’re spot on. One thing we can’t lose sight of locally is the reckoning that is needed in the Chicagoland area, where Dem politics is alive and well. And it’s strangling the state.
Why else would IL counties want to be moving to Indiana?
You forgot about the ones that want to remain in Illinois, but shove Chicago out on its ass – and possibly include some of the collar counties with it. Sadly, Wisconsin considers them all tarred with the stench of Chicago and Springfield, and won’t take the northern tier of counties. But perhaps Iowa and Missouri will offer refuge to some on the west border.
I think the only northern county that’s stenched is Lake County. McHenry County is solid red for the most part.
Funny thing. My daughter and son-in-law who live in the Boise, ID suburb of Eagle are complaining about all the “elites” that are fleeing California for Idaho. And that was BEFORE the fires. YIKES!
Spot on and hilarious! ” Like drunken eaters of raw garlic passed out in a steam bath.”
You are as sharp as ever!
Military tribunals at Club Gitmo. Nuremberg style trial. Let Justice prevail.
Spot on! And please everybody, keep praying for his protection. I don’t care if they move the oath of office to a broom closet with cameras, or the Oval Office half-bath.
DJT. Pray for President Trump. I somehow think Sniffer Joe will be just fine, if they can only sedate him, get on the moving van dolly, and ship him home.
This was very funny. Thank you
Thank you for bringing us together (Kass Nation ) on a cold Jan Sunday. Reading the responses are a gift in addition to your awesome columns. Ja Biden gave my son’s ND graduation speech. To see with my own eyes his decline has been stunning. I personally feel his exit is what his family deserves. His arrogance turned out to be more than Nancy’s. Stay warm folks.
Looking forward to DOGE!
Too true! The only real deterrent is the certainty of retribution. A lot of Democrats need to go to prison – real prison – and it needs to be done by public arrests or midnight SWAT visits. Security clearances and passports need to be pulled, careers ruined, families separated, pensions denied, and public humiliation must occur; otherwise, the Lois Lerners, John Brennans, and Bidens of the world will simply try again a few years in the future since too many ‘got away with it’. There’s too much else to be done in President Trumps first two years, but after the midterms, for the sake of the country, it needs to be payback time no matter how unpopular in certain quarters.
The demorats gave perpetrated one of the biggest grifts in history. Believe me when I say history will not be kind to them! I’m still perplexed about the 39% of voters who think Biden was a great president. To quote you John, are they smoking Obama’s hopium?
Amen, John!! As always, an outstanding column! Can this jackass we tolerated as President ever be brought to justice? Hopefully Trump can clean house and expose to the world all that’s been happening!
Let Hunter testify, he has no immunity. Subpoena the mope before congress and make him tell the truth. His Uncle Jim should be next. Then Vindeman, Sen. LIAR Schiff ect.
Pam Bondi can be an extremely busy AG if she demands the truth from the enablers.
Every one of those 51 signers should be called before a congressional investigative committee.
Γιάννη,
Part of me wants to go ballistic on the Bidens and sycophants that covered for them. But I also realize our new president has bigger fish to fry, and can’t risk getting bogged down in endless procedures to document all of Joe’s sins, which are countless! We learned in Sunday school that our Lord will forgive us if we confess our sins. I’ve also come to realize there is a certain calmness and peace that comes once you’re able to forgive those who’ve wronged you. It’s an enlightened feeling. However, part of me still seeks retribution for the crimes committed by the whole Biden combine against our country. Therein lies my (and your) dilemma!!!
Great column, JK — only wish it had been twice as long. You could have included his being a Senate best-buddy of Dixiecrat racists, trying to plagiarize the life story of a British politician, slandering an honorable Supreme Court nominee, and — well, the list is too long. A writer’s sympathies if your head hurts just recalling this idiot’s odious history. (Mine did.)
But Biden’s gluttonous grifting of democracy has never been better described than in today’s column. A toast to the man who stood tall in the Tower.
Best wishes today for the good health and further achievements of one valuable guy in Washington, D.C. and another in Indiana.
The overwhelming destruction that the Bidens, this administration, and the rest of his Leftist Democrat ilk, have wrought upon our great nation is unforgivable. I’m all for heating up vast vats of tar, tearing open those old feather pillows, and building stocks in our public squares. It’s Shock and Awe time once again. Keep up the voice of We the People, Mr. Kass!
Great column John.
There’s so much for DJT and (next two terms) young Vance to fix here. May God grant them the strength and wisdom to do right by all of America.
My simple starting point.
Fix or replace the FBI and CIA. There’s trouble brewing in our homeland and the enemies who would cause this trouble are here and dug in.
Then start the investigations with who has been running the country in Bidens name. After that move on to publishing the Epstein and Hush money lists.
I have to agree with Leo that forgiveness is a good thing. Forgiveness I find is a gift from God. It frees the mind to make things right.
Yes, there must be a full reckoning to expose their crimes to the world. And it has to be a reckoning with consequences. Why? As a warning to future generations to never, ever let this happen again.
Yeah, life was hell under Biden, but not the funny Matt Groening rabbit comic strip. It was more like Prickly City, where people perform inexplicable actions and a coyote and kid are dumbfounded by it.
The MSM I usually read nowadays when I’m bored. I see them take my comments off their sites, lock my X account for no reason, and I get a gallows humor kind of laugh about it. Less than 60,000 viewers watch CNN now at any given time, according to Glenn Greenwald. Sometimes the reckoning comes from the scoundrels themselves. There was a guest op-ed in the New York Crimes saying that America was now united––in that about 70% of us are skeptical about institutions of old. When people are lied to for so long, they just move on eventually. And the smugness is intolerable. People think a Nobel Prize or PhD makes them win arguments, and they pull rank. But the facts are the facts. And if not Biden, the Dems deserve to learn a harsh lesson.
Just hang Hunter Biden’s artwork somewhere as a lasting memory
Jeff, didn’t you hear that much of Hunter’s “artwork” was in a storage facility close to his attorney’s home in the LA fire zone and went up in smoke. How convenient. That will be a massive casualty loss which he won’t even have to sell. Maybe if some still exists it can hang in the Getty or AIC or even the Louvre! Not! Just another grift.
A very good indictment. I fear the recidivism in the Swamp criminal class will negate much deterrent benefit. Punishment of the worst offenders is a must though, and Congress won’t do it. Just as the Swamp surface algae closes back up after a rock is thrown. Don’t let it die a death by committee. “The cohesive power of plunder.”
There needs to be a LOT of reckoning for those is DC that committed crimes – no get out of jail free cards.
We’re counting on Pam Bondi to independently lead the charge to bring justice from her “JUSTICE Department” for the American people.
Nothing will help change the culture of lawfare and cheating more than having consequences when caught and proscuted.
John, I’ve got a personal interest in this China thing. I remember a couple years ago when you were still with the Trib, you intimated that the Chinese control Oak Lawn. I emailed you about it but didn’t get a response. I live in Oak Lawn, as you once did growing up. What evidence do you have that the Chinese are infiltrating Oak Lawn, or is it a hunch, or do you know something I don’t?
Because I’m frenetically trying to do my best to point out the futility of a hot war with China, not out of any individual gain, but because I think it would lead to WWIII and nukes would wipe out tons of people, supposing their half-lives are still active.
The Masons, and through their kickbacks the police, seem to have a connection to the Chinese, who may still be loyal communists, at their massage parlors I investigated and told you about. Nearly every massage parlor in the neighboring suburbs outside of Oak Lawn, which has tried to keep them away, has a MAP sticker on the door, which if you know a little cryptography stands for MA-SON, as the Egyptians used the letter P to denote the sun; it has come to signify Jesus too, as in the Catholic Kairos ritual, XP.
While Oak Lawn has diversified, mostly the addition of more Mexicans and Arab families, I don’t see too many Oriental people around here. If you have any information, please pass it along to me.
Thanks.
Once again John, no one else could say it better than you. From the beginning of his presidency, even Stevie Wonder could see there was something wrong with him, but the liberal media and the democratic puppets kept shoveling the lies to us that he was sharper than a tack. Then when the powers that be decided maybe he wasn’t fit for prime time anymore made the decision to replace him with Kamala Harris ( who at first seemed to work hard not to replace Joe with) Deemed to run her in his place. The liberal democrats just seem to run around in circles and chase their tails. I tell my democrat friends who say they’re democrats because their fathers voted democrat, I say remember that this is not your father’s democratic party. Let’s look forward to a better tomorrow starting tomorrow!
A reckoning we must have. But it will take some time. Wait until President Trump gets into office and really sees the mess that the Biden Administration and the Democrats wrought. I hope President Trump showcases each and every treachery he finds to the American People. This country has been so divided by these Democrat clowns that it will take a decade to heal. I for one would be willing travel to DC to watch Pelosi, Wray and the rest of cabal getting their butts handed to them in court and then I’ll take out the prosecutors out for steak afterwards.
Awesome Sunday column John Kass . Thank you for remembering those 300,000 children lost to sex traffickers. Your words about corrupting the DOJ “into his political hit squad” are precise. We need to remember this disgrace, because devious politicians will try it again. As you point out, it was the Axlerod -types who created the Biden deception. Two decades ago David Axelrod helped launch the fiction of Barack & Michelle Obama as saintly heroes. Two shining stars, to be admired for their honesty and integrity. It was toxic Kool-aide, but media stooges gulped it down and begged for more. When the Obama lakefront library opens, Democrats and Republicans alike will kneel before pompous Barack and kiss his ring. No one will mention the Biden crew. They’ll be erased from history like the ghosts of brain-dead Woodrow Wilson and his despotic wife Edith.
Thank you John Kass for this column and it’s spelling out of truth and facts. I enjoyed your statement, “There can be no forgiveness without admission of guilt. There can be no redemption without first confession. And the Democrats have much to seek forgiveness for.”
Of course you know that he is to visit a church in Charleston today and had to hurry his morning appearance telling all about the “hostages”….and he must hurry out to his transport for that trip to Charleston. Stumbled through that little mini appearance also..
25 more hours and we can really start a new USA…God bless you John Kass and God bless President Donald Trump and keep him and his family safe and secure.
Tom
A friend (very liberal) posted last night on her FB page quoting an article by Heather Cox Richardson that basically said the sky is falling and the republic will not survive without democrats at the helm. That Trump got more and better coverage than Kamala’s campaign and implying that tomorrow will be a black day in the US. Biden’s “accomplishments including the hostage swap and cease fire were credited solely to him. Even though it has been reported some of his staff admit Trump brought it across the finish line. I chose not to roll in the mud and argue. . Pritzger and Johnson have vowed to thwart deportation efforts by allowing name changes (which records of course are confidential and not accessible to the feds.). Glad I no longer live in Illinois but a solid red (save some cities) state.
Hard to say what’s worse. Old school Irish political grifters like Daleys, Madigans , Burkes etc…or New School Communist Grifters like any Hispanic Chicago Aldercreature (except for Ray Lopez). The New Grift is led by the AOCs, Elizabeth Warren and best exemplified by California politicians like Karen Bass and Gavin Newsom. Lead the stupid and the stupid will follow. And so goes Chicago. I escaped six years ago and now live in a Free State. I torment myself by still watching Chicago news. I ABSOLUTELY GUARANTEE you that if you watch any five pm newscast you will be presented with the usual cast of aggrieved sign wavers with the usual cast of grievances benefitting their aggrieved benefactors who operate the usual “nonprofits”. The “New Grift” operates on a scale the Sicilians could only dream about a hundred years ago. Isn’t it funny that the state of Illinois is legalizing prostitution? The state has legalized gambling, dope and whores. The same thing they used to put mobsters in prison for….
Perhaps someone can refresh my memory… What is the penalty for treason?
Another great column John. My only concern is that as we go after all those who tried to destroy our country at the meat puppet’s direction, we can’t forget the puppeteer. He has made himself all but untouchable. He won’t go away and he won’t quit. He will only be looking for the next puppet to tie his strings to. He is much more dangerous than dim witted Joe.
John there will never be a “recogning” because as much as we want it, our friends, family and co-workers will never admit the damage that was done. Im a union man from the days as a child id sit on my daddy’s lap and watch him type letters as a AFL-CIO local rep. How he would meet the widowed wives and talk about the union and how they would be taken care of now that their loved one was gone. I was a union rep and negotiator for many contracts as the police tried to get fairly compensated. I served my country and raised my children to respect god and country and support unions as the only protection against the “man”. That man was the government and i can say that 3 of my 4 daughters are pro constitution and standing up for a great country (my 4th leans to the left but is smart enough to be mad about the last four years) and are following the recent election as a breath of constitutionally protected fresh air. It’s up to you John to lead the fight for this recogning that people such as myself so want. I’m a proud subscriber and supporter or your words John and hope you can carry the standard. Thank you.
So true, John. And SH*THEAD SCHUMER wants the Republicans to be besties now. I’ll never forget when they let Hilliary off the hook when she screamed at them, “What difference does it make!” after she declined responsibility for deaths in an embassy. The Repubs better grow some this term and keep the pedal to the metal, and keep the heat on Lardo JB.
I’ll bet Brandon has a huge supply of Xanax for when ICE comes to town.
People of Chiraque, don’t forget Brandon’s lies to you to get elected.
BTW. I do worry about President Trump’s safety.
Hey, whatever happened to the disgraced Secret Service director?
For sure,……….Pam Bondi has her work cut out not just for her and the DOJ,…but for all US citizens that need to know the truth of the Biden family’s corruption.
My fear is for President Trumps safety both physically and from the underminers left in government who will try to derail all his policies.
Excellent JK, and great commentary.
I have enjoyed watching some of the Senate confirmation hearings. The men and women appointed have not taken the bait from their Democrat opponents.
Typical bullies, when exposed, suddenly play the victim of bullying or future bullying.
Adam Schiff. The CONSUMATE coastal. Coastal filth!
We won. Now let’s go!
Traitor Joe and the Saboteurs.
I have always agreed with you when you’ve stated that the POTUS is exempt from the Moutza. But since Traitor Joe will be out of office at the end of month, what could be more timely than awarding him the Moutza of the Month for January?
Joe Biden has always been a grifter and a user – since he took the first oath of office. That scene took place in the hospital room of his two injured, bandage-wrapped sons, lying in hospital beds. The memorial photo made sure to capture their images. Then Biden got hair plugs – remember??
Let the reckoning start by releasing the Epstein and Diddy client lists tomorrow afternoon. That oughta neutralize a large percentage of them right off the bat.
The Trump administration needs to come down on the Democrats/Marxists/Jacobins/Communists or whatever you want to call them, with the full force of the law for what they did to this country & the millions of lives/businesses they destroyed. There is no working across the aisle, as Dems never do when in power. Most of those in the Biden administration should face trial & be treated as traitors, guilty of treason. I’ve never watched any of Biden’s speeches. Most of us knew he was a liar & grifter. One can recall how he flip flopped on his so called beliefs if it benefitted his family. The great thing about technology is every utterance Joe has made is documented forever. Good riddance to the POS & his entire corrupt administration.
Until the reckoning has been completed, legitimately, and those deserving are called out, prosecuted where possible and shamed, anxiety will not subside.
Well I disagree. Are Biden and his woke Democrats abhorrent? You bet. But using the government hammer for payback (by the way given the recent SCOTUS decisions regarding Presidential immunity) it would be an exercise in futility. A waste of time. The way to get back to those scuzzbags is for Mr. Trump to focus on his major goals and accomplish them: close the border, remove the illegals, restore a vibrant economy, downsize and defang the administrative state, restore power to our representatives and restore a forceful but rational foreign policy. Focussing on payback will due two self defeating things: detract from what must be done, and lead us down the path to becoming a banana republic. After all, the political wheel always turns in the US. Continuing on with law fare is ultimately suicidal for our Republic.
I was pondering the fate of our country’s top grifter Joey Biden, and I foresee that like all the Moslem terrorists who commit heinous and bloodthirsty crimes and are caught, Joey Robinette will claim as his defense against possible fraud charges and crimes, mental and psychological infirmities caused by his daughter when she, not he, willfully exposed herself to him in the shower. As me Irish granny always said, I know a “teef” when I see a “teef!”
If it comes down to a choice between going after the outgoing administration or getting on with fixing the country by actually having a functional Congress and Executive Branch, I would prefer the latter.
John, tomorrow is the culmination of your war with “the paper!” The doubts you undoubtedly had about starting up a new concern in middle age were understandable. But johnkassnews.com is the fruit of your bravery and for that I’d like to thank you. But it would have been a muted victory if Trump’s second term didn’t materialize. It’s people like you and Miranda Divine and Salena Zito who are just good old fashioned gumshoe reporters that helped expose Joe Biden’s inherent corrupt nature. Go enjoy the day tomorrow with the knowledge that you had a hand in the environment that produced the victory! Thank you for that.
Couldn’t agree with you more. My Globe column this week was on the same subject, though not nearly as well written.
Your recalling how your “meat puppet” got the left in an uproar reminded me of the beginning of Biden’s four years of mandates and dictates. I’d written of how he talked of democracy and unity but was acting like a King. I dubbed him the “mumbling, mask faced monarch” but the new editor thought it “too harsh” and would appear that I was making fun of his stutter years past.
Jim Stramaglia is right, Kasso. You helped fight the fight, big time. I would love to see a reckoning but doubt anything will come of it. Love Trump but prepared for SOS, same old shit. I don’t think the revolution we are hoping and praying for will take place in our lifetimes.
Yup Biden a crook. We need someone honest , like say……Nixon, no?
Totally agree. If there are any embers smoldering we must continue to drown this hellfire from erupting again. We know it will and there are flamethrowers in their ranks!
Excellent article! I agree 110% that there MUST be a reckoning. Cut them some slack – NEVER. Never Forget! We’re supposed to give these corrupt people and this corrupt party a reprieve in the name of forgiveness and unity? I don’t think so – most of them still refuse to admit the error of their ways. In my opinion, most of them will lay low for the next three and a half years and then come back as corrupt and underhanded as ever in the hopes that the American public will forget Biden’s tragic four years in office. Most people I speak to about politics (conservatives) don’t even remember Biden’s inaugural speech when he told us “it is going to be a dark winter” (referring to his administration) where we were going to have to learn with less and “have less choices”. Boy – he exceeded those statements! My fear is that is what will happen again – the American public’s memory is extremely short and also naive. Keep up the good work Mr. Kass!
Andrew Coyne, a highly respected Canadian columnist with the Globe and Mail, on the incoming US administration:
“Nothing mattered, in the end. Not the probable dementia, the unfathomable ignorance, the emotional incontinence; not, certainly, the shambling, hate-filled campaign, or the ludicrously unworkable anti-policies.
The candidate out on bail in four jurisdictions, the convicted fraud artist, the adjudicated rapist and serial sexual predator, the habitual bankrupt, the stooge of Vladimir Putin, the man who tried to overturn the last election and all of his creepy retinue of crooks, ideologues and lunatics: Americans took a long look at all this and said, yes please.
There is no sense in understating the depth of the disaster. This is a crisis like no other in our lifetimes. The government of the United States has been delivered into the hands of a gangster, whose sole purpose in running, besides staying out of jail, is to seek revenge on his enemies. The damage Donald Trump and his nihilist cronies can do – to America, but also to its democratic allies, and to the peace and security of the world – is incalculable. We are living in the time of Nero.
The first six months will be a time of maximum peril. NATO must from this moment be considered effectively obsolete, without the American security guarantee that has always been its bedrock. We may see new incursions by Russia into Europe – the poor Ukrainians are probably done for, but now it is the Baltics and the Poles who must worry – before the Europeans have time to organize an alternative. China may also accelerate its Taiwanese ambitions.
At home, Mr. Trump will be moving swiftly to consolidate his power. Some of this will be institutional – the replacement of tens of thousands of career civil servants with Trumpian loyalists. But some of it will be … atmospheric.
At some point someone – a company whose chief executive has displeased him, a media critic who has gotten under his skin – will find themselves the subject of unwanted attention from the Trump administration. It might not be so crude as a police arrest. It might just be a little regulatory matter, a tax audit, something like that. They will seek the protection of the courts, and find it is not there.
The judges are also Trump loyalists, perhaps, or too scared to confront him. Or they might issue a ruling, and find it has no effect – that the administration has called the basic bluff of liberal democracy: the idea that, in the crunch, people in power agree to be bound by the law, and by its instruments the courts, the same as everyone else. Then everyone will take their cue. Executives will line up to court him. Media organizations, the large ones anyway, will find reasons to be cheerful.
Of course, in reality things will start to fall apart fairly quickly. The huge across-the-board tariffs he imposes will tank the world economy. The massive deficits, fueled by his ill-judged tax policies – he won’t replace the income tax, as he promised, but will fill it with holes – and monetized, at his direction, by the Federal Reserve, will ignite a new round of inflation.
Most of all, the insane project of deporting 12 million undocumented immigrants – finding them, rounding them up and detaining them in hundreds of internment camps around the country, probably for years, before doing so – will consume his administration. But by then it will be too late.
We should not count upon the majority of Americans coming to their senses in any event. They were not able to see Mr. Trump for what he was before: why should that change? Would they not, rather, be further coarsened by the experience of seeing their neighbours dragged off by the police, or the military, further steeled to the necessity of doing “tough things” to “restore order?”
Some won’t, of course. But they will find in time that the democratic levers they might once have pulled to demand change are no longer attached to anything. There are still elections, but the rules have been altered: there are certain obstacles, certain disadvantages if you are not with the party of power. It will seem easier at first to try to change things from within. Then it will be easier not to change things.
All of this will wash over Canada in various ways – some predictable, like the flood of refugees seeking escape from the camps; some less so, like the coarsening of our own politics, the debasement of morals and norms by politicians who have discovered there is no political price to be paid for it. And who will have the backing of their patron in Washington.
All my life I have been an admirer of the United States and its people. But I am frightened of it now, and I am even more frightened of them.”
Mr. Flood- Thank you for posting this sensible column by Andrew Coyne. He is indeed an astute observer. This country, in re-electing Donald Trump has now repeated a very foolish and irresponsible decision.
Another 4 year long Trump clown-show is the last thing America, or the world, needs right now.
We should all be ashamed of ourselves. May God help us.
This article doesn’t tell how disgusted we true Americans were at the deliberate destruction of our society, brought on by Dementia Joe and his Crime Family and Cronies.
The lawfare against President Trump brought a whole lot of voters over to our side, mostly because of the nonstop persecution of a political opponent, but also because we all thought, “If they can do this to him, they can do this to me.”
And to rewrite history by conveniently forgetting the Clintons and Obamas, just because they were never charged for their evil deeds.
Tell ALL of the story, not just the part you want to believe.
From the article: “Maga Republicans do not respect the Constitution,” said Biden.
Heh. That from the guy who declared the long-dead Equal Rights Amendment to be “the law of the land” via X dictat a couple of days before he hits the door.
A fitting sendoff might be sung by Carrie Underwood (think Sunday Night Football theme) –
with sincere apologies to the actual author of the lyrics/composer of the tune…
I’ve been waiting four years for Monday Noon
Alright, what a fight, it’s finally here
Trump’s Inaugration’s kicking into high gear
The stars have arrived
Come on, get up and cheer!
Hey Jack, it’s a fact, the show’s back in town
The Rotunda is a’rockin’, time to crank up the sound
Truman, Reagan, King are all smilin’ on down
The GOP’s best have all come out to play
Coast to coast, there’s just one thing left to say…
I’ve been waiting four years for Monday Noon
The victory was won under a November Moon
The Forty-seventh Prez’ll be taking office soon
That’s why we’ve waited four years for Monday Noon
While I absolutely agree and love all the comments I am more concerned about getting things turned around in the short time they are going to have. Maybe hard to accept but he is right that his revenge will be a successful 180 from them. This is a great day but it will quickly turn if things don’t go RIGHT in more ways than one.
I agree Carol that things need to get done. But no matter what, we have a President now that loves America. Picture what our futures would be if Kamallla was sitting in that chair. Wasn’t it wonderful when President Trump sat down in the Oval Office and said, “This is a beautiful room”. (not a verbatim quote.)
Great column, as usual John. I was beside myself when he was elected (?) four years ago, but decided to give it a try because he was going to unify the country. That ended for me on day 1, when he closed the Keystone pipeline. On almost daily basis these last four years he pissed me off. I came to understand his grifting through the efforts of James Comer (who a liberal friend of mine) called a “stupid hillbilly. ” I felt we just couldn’t win because of the corrupt media in this country. Now, at long last, we are vindicated as we send senile, corrupt old Joe and the very irritating (but joyful) Kamala packing. Bah bye!
So who was the wizard behind the curtain pulling all those strings of government? Signing all those executive orders? Pardons? DEI’ing all those federal agencies? Negotiating away on our behalf? When will the corporate media tell us that small little detail? Who was the Wizard behind the curtain these past four years? Answers, please!
Another home run. Keep them coming
Mr. Kass- Why are you so selective in (rightfully) condemning moral failures like lying and grifting? Do you really not understand the hypocrisy in your own positions? Have you deluded yourself beyond all objective reality?
This country, with your support, just chose to ignore the behaviors of perhaps the lyingest, griftiest, most fraudulent conman of our times and reward that person with a second presidency.
Shame on you.
I urge everyone to read the astute article written by columnist Andrew Coyne posted by Mr. Flood (about 8 comments above) and respond.
