Nikki Haley has become that dangerously unhinged ex-girlfriend that is now your stalker. She won’t take the hint and keeps hanging around. Just to prove that Illinois can be as stupid other Democrat States, they’re also trying to ban Trump from the ballot. One can only wonder if Republicans can also ban Doddering Joe from their ballots for his treasonous border policies. Stupid is as stupid does….
Heidi in fact is reading from her holy scripture: “The Founding Myth, Why Christian Nationalism is UN-American” by Andrew Seidel … ironically a constitutional lawyer. The script is all there.
There is no question that Judeo Cristian ideals had a profound effect upon the Founders (which folks like Seidel denies by the way). There is also no question that as pointed out by the one indispensable founder – George Washington himself – in his letter to the Hebrew Congregation of Newport RI in 1790 that the young republic was not a nation favoring Christians but tolerating others. Rather as the great man said it was a Republic for all:
“The Citizens of the United States of America have a right to applaud themselves for having given to mankind examples of an enlarged and liberal policy: a policy worthy of imitation. All possess alike liberty of conscience and immunities of citizenship It is now no more that toleration is spoken of, as if it was by the indulgence of one class of people, that another enjoyed the exercise of their inherent natural rights. For happily the Government of the United States, which gives to bigotry no sanction, to persecution no assistance requires only that they who live under its protection should demean themselves as good citizens, in giving it on all occasions their effectual support.”
The Founders – though influenced by the Judeo Christian image of man (for instance check out Madison’s Federalist 51 where he couches “separation of powers” with in the Christian idea that we are all sinners) – none the less wanted to ensure religious liberty. And they did this by the “establishment clause” which the liberals love, as well as the “free exercise clause” which the liberals hate (see Masterpiece Cake Shop v Colorado). People like Heidi don’t realize that religious freedom did not mean religious nullification. Just the opposite in fact.
Nice point – Washington. Jefferson was a devout Anglican, just felt the State should not fund and given religion. All my ancestors from the Northwest Mountains of Virginia were devout Christians.
Ms Heidi is shadow projecting, all too common phenomenon, especially when there’s money to be made.
The key word in the Declaration is “Creator”. More closely aligned with the Holy Spirit, or the
Great Spirit as understood by Africans and American Indians. The scene from the opening episode of Roots comes to mind, when the infant is held up to the stars, to the Creator.
Use of “the Creator” points to the multi cultural, multi ethnic middle ground from which the United States was borne. And if this can be understood, like back in the day when people started to believe the Earth was round, something amazing happens politically. The race card goes away, for good. Poof, gone
Because these truths are self evident.
