Chicago Way w/John Kass: Freedom rings
Chicago Way w/John Kass (07/07/25): Charles Lipson joins John Kass & Jeff Carlin for this post Independence Day episode. Charles is the Peter B. Ritzma Professor of Political Science Emeritus at the University of Chicago and an author whose writings can be found in the Spectator, Spectator World, The Telegraph, and more. On the docket, what the ’12 Day War’ between Iran & Israel means for geopolitical relations throughout the Middle East and beyond, how birthright citizenship impacts the U.S. census -and in turn the power balance between traditionally red & blue state, and why the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ will have a legacy beyond that of Ronald Reagan. Plus, Kasso wonders if the Declaration of Independence is the greatest document ever produced in America?

You are supporting the Atlantic?
no. when are you going to ask me if I’ve ever been a communist? I loathe the Atlantic. Get real Richard Ganch…
JK
John, I believe Richard Ganch confused “The Atlantic” which is on your “What I’m Reading” list as your support of this rag, but I might be wrong. You could clear up any confusion by replacing “The Atlantic” with “The New Criterion” on the reading list.
“Blue State Confederates” – you wish there was such a thing, so do I. Then there would be no Blue States. Here’s an illustration, without the former Confederacy. 11 States, without “our” votes (can’t include myself since I am in Illinois – without our votes today, you are begging us to accept Indiana as the 12th.
No worries, I know what you are trying to say. I just pine for a United States that has zero indoctrination
The pomposity and disrespect for those wounded among us on the Fourth of July is disgraceful. Only in a gung-ho country like ours does the whole nation erupt with fire hazards. And with me, they’re paid to do it. Oak Lawn wasn’t as it once was, with Ernie Kolb. It’s become a military quartering town, against the 3rd amendment. So many laws have been violated against my rights. But it’s local, state and federal so there is no escape beyond emigration. America has become less free because of the secret laws surrounding me, FISA abuses, public corruption. I have a whole list of them @davidvognar13, if it’s even public. Enjoy your First Amendment while you still have it. The government is in a hurry to use my case as a template for the police state. I only seek to live according to the Tao.
“For I realize today that it is a mortal sin to violate the great laws of nature. We should not hurry, we should not be impatient, but we should confidently obey the eternal rhythm.”
