Chicago Way w/John Kass: Do national nods mean anything in the race for mayor?
March 28, 2023
With a week to go in the run-off election to decide Chicago’s next mayor, veteran political advisor at Serafin & Associates and co-host of The Crisis Cast, Thom Serafin, joins John Kass & Jeff Carlin to size up what endorsements from Senators Dick Durbin & Bernie Sanders mean and where Brandon Johnson & Paul Vallas stand. Having closely looked at both candidates, it is tempting to vote for neither–but, clearly, Vallas is at least, sane. If Chicago votes Johnson in after Little Lori, then Chicago, to paraphrase H.L. Mencken, deserves to get him. Good and hard. Can we be that stupid? Is reace now all that matters?
Bill:
Don’t forget, people voted for Kim Foxx……..TWICE! We may actually be that stupid
yes, i cannot believe that this county voted her into that office….TWICE. my friends/co-workers who live elsewhere rib the stuffing out of me for it. truly embarrassing!
Some blue city will be the beta test for socialism, hopefully to spare the rest of us from the fallout. Why not Chicago?
Good point. Now that I’m out, I can handle it. But I think the blue city that does this will be from California.
National endorsements by the likes of Durban and Sanders scary weight with the elites, nit with working people. The people who ride the CTA, and have to step around the homeless and the beggars on the street and see the vandalism and have their cars messed up or their catalytic converter stolen know what’s what. The city is in shambles.
Willie Wilson pulled 9% of the vote John. Burnett holds a lot of sway too. Ja’Maal Green isn’t backing Brandon either. Brandon had political hacks and elites backing him. Chuy Garcia took the money and ran to DC. He’s not relevant in the city anymore. A sizable amount of his 17% will break for Vallas
Vallas only need 50% plus 1, but my math has him pulling 54% of the vote as working people all across the city come out to vote for him. HE got 36% Willie’s 9 plus Chuy’s 17 is 26% in play, plus the undecideds, that’s over 30%. I thinkmPaul can peel off more than half of that as not all of them work for government, and even many CTU members are disgusted at the un ion management and political agenda.
Constituency blocks will not follow mathematical logic. However, I hope people will vote for Vallas.
Let’s see if the chumbolones will awaken and vote for sanity and a mayor that has actually accomplished something, like Paul Vallas. We can only hope and pray, otherwise, the city will be forever remembered as a s–thole city, like Portand, LA, NOLA, Seattle, Minneapolis!
On the money!
You may want to add Detroit to that list!
If enough non-race-only voters, who are more interested in a healthy city, and not City/State union job holders, vote for Paul Vallas, then there is hope for the city. If not, the city will continue its downward slide.
The city will continue the downward slide no matter who is elected. It will just be slower under Vallas. He has no plan to fix the city’s fiscal woes, much caused by the unsustainable public employee pensions. No Democrat will stand up to them and it’s a well hidden problem that even the media ignores.
I keep hearing JK favorite word: HOPIUM. I hope blah, blah blah. Keep hopiuming bcuz that’s all you got. THE CITY IS GONE, DEAD, KAPUT, FINISHED, NEVER TO RETURN. You keeping kicking a corpse trying revive it. Get a new hobby.

The only hispanic votes Johnson will get are from the young indoctrinated Chicago public school students who are blinded by socialist teachings as taught to them by the CTU. The blue collar adult hispanics are fed up with crime and won’t vote for Johnson. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, our millionaire East Coast Socialist elites won’t sway any of these voters either. Hopefully the NIMBYS in Lincoln Park are fed up with crime too and vote for Vallas. Johnson has already made it known what his positions on crime are. He would be a bigger disaster for Chicago than Beetlejuice was. Lets hope Johnson losing this election encourages CTU members to decertify that union as a bargaining unit due to the loss of the 2/3 million dollars of their union dues to funding political campaigns. This alone should get people out of bed on election day to vote. Hopefully Chicagoans do the right thing and finish taking out the trash.
Keep in mind the recent installation of NYC mayor who promised control of crime. He’s worse than previous !! It’s not going to be pretty as the Chicago exodus continues, the assessed valuation of “not sold yet” properties decreases, and cries for tax revenue will demand a higher tax rate on those decreasing property values. Abandoned buildings and cries of “my turf ” will hasten all negs. Crickets and cobwebs in our jails.
Can’t we get that formerly richest guy in Illinois – the Hedge Fund guy (left for Florida) to donate a couple $ million in walking around $ to pay SS gang leaders to suppress the vote – offer some insider deals on well, academic text books or something.
This is the kind of thing John F Kennedy’s father Joe Kennedy did and GOP operator Lee Atwater did.
Winning American political campaigns where everyone including drunks, addicts, criminals and cat ladies all vote, it’s not all about intelligent “issues” like Charter Schools.
Would prefer to see Vallais win,but expecting Chicago to vote correctly? Lightfoot, Preckwinkel, Kim Fox, Biden seems to point to a very disappointing pattern.
