It’s all true. Every bit of it. The incestuous relationship between organized labor and the dem politicians, who reward the unions with absurd pay and benefits the public cannot possibly afford due the malfeasance of the same pols, who refused to fund the public pensions while the unions looked the other way.
Thank you Jim Thompson, Jim Edgar, Richard M. Daley. Michael J. Madigan, Bruce Rainer, Blago, Pat Quinn. These and many more, engineered the scam of shorting pensions, borrowing excessively to finance government with long term debt to finance day to day operations. These people gave us Sox park, the debacle that is Soldier’s Field, the obscenely over budget Millenium Park, hired truck. Com Ed!!!!!
The CTU may care even less about the “black and brown” children of the city than the KKK, the Proud Boys, or the Oath Keepers. I say this because the fought to keep schools closed when the data showed the lock downs were hurting their constituents more than anyone else. They continue to fight for more pay while ignoring the structural deficits the General Assembly runs, they also pay lip service to the violence in the neighborhoods where the people they “love” live.
A fair amount of the teachers either live in the suburbs, and/or send their kids to private schools. You see, the schools are good enough for the people they “care” about, but not for their kids.
And the Republicans are the bad guys?
The people who own the Democrats also own the media. Remember this.
We need to step out of this red/blue, left/right bullshit and take this country back for the working people.
The corporate capture media will make you hate the 300 pound person who uses welfare to buy their fudge rounds, this is disgusting, I will agree, but I hope all you “good” people out there realize that tax credits, grants, special carve outs, etc., given to the billionaire class, even to Barack Obama and his friends, dwarfs whatever the single mom gets.
Divide and conquer. That’s what’s they do. It has been tremendously successful.
Keep on fighting.
We are chumbolones one and all.
Erin Geary is a treasure. It was great to hear her today. I’m looking forward to reading her column.
can Chicago survive it?
Kasso, Detroit went through hell, so many moved away, so many lost everything; their businesses, home equity, they got Pennie’s on the dollar for the pensions they worked so hard for.
But the city survived, the pols and their cronies got paid first. They all survived. The bond holders all got paid, as did the banks.
Just to add insult to injury, the “great Barack Hussein Obama”, allowed the governor of Michigan and his cronies, to poison the children of Flint, MI. and get away scot free. He also bailed out Wall Street Siri during the financial crisis and kicked out scores of “people of color” out of their homes.
Once the city hollowed out, hipsters are moving back in. There will be investment opportunities to get in on the ground floor of even a small rebirth.
The identity politics is nice to cover, but it’s a smoke screen for the grift that the government runs. The black politicians exploit and punish their “own”, even more than the “racist” white pls do.
They can be bought off, as Obama was. He will tell them
To their face their water is clean, take. sip and say it is fine, then go spit it out later. He will tell you to wear a mask, distance and close your business and then host hundreds at a birthday party where only the servants wear masks. He will take us from 2 wars to 7. He will build the cages and put kids in them before Trump did. He will drop more bombs than George W. Bush, so many that they actually ran out of bombs. He will tell you to eat bugs and drive an electric car and conserve while he flies around on a private jet to his many mansions.
It’s the middles class workers who will get screwed John. The people that “matter” will be fine.
The poor most definitely do not matter to the political elites on either side, but especially the Democrats
John you may be too young to remember when CPS teachers fell into 3 categories. Certified and assigned, Full time basis substitutes( FTB) subs were teachers who did not pass the certification exams, and day to day substitutes. I graduated from the old Chicago Teachers College South at 69th and Stewart in 1967. I took the test to be a Chicago HS teacher of bookkeeping. Back then you had to major in your subject area, take and pass a written exam in that area and then pass a verbal exam in your subject. I did pass the test and was a Certified and Assigned teacher at Kennedy HS. Certified and assigned teachers got tenure after 3 satisfactory years of teaching and we could then move up the pay scale. Full time basis substitute teachers never got above the 5th year on the pay scale and day to day substitutes got a daily rate of pay when they worked. In the early 1970’s people were complaining the the certifications tests were discriminatory and the system was changed so that FTB substitutes teachers became automatically certified. So now 50+ years later you have people in the system or now retired that couldn’t pass the test for the job in the first place and they are retiring or being paid at the top of the pay scales
