Anti-Semitism and the Unholy Alliance Between the Far Left and Radical Islam

By Paul Vallas

There is an alliance between the far left and Islamist fundamentalists that is based not on shared ideals, but on a shared hatred for Western civilization. For radicals on the far left, the West represents systemic oppression. For Islamic fundamentalists, the West is a system of moral decay and an obstacle to religious domination. In the mortar of this unholy alliance is the demonization of Israel and anti-Semitism—history’s bogeyman—which offers common ground for two seemingly incompatible movements.

While the contemporary left still revolves around material realities—who owns capital, who earns wages, and how legal and economic systems shape opportunity—it has resuscitated its discredited socialism and communism by submerging its class-based politics in a rigid moral framework that divides society into permanent oppressors vs. the oppressed, with “white supremacy” cast as the villain and the root of nearly every injustice.

The ideology is built around identity politics, replacing individualism with collectivism and moral pluralism with ideological conformity.

What presents itself as a struggle for equity and inclusion is, in fact, a modern-day Trojan Horse—an inviting vessel through which radical ideologies infiltrate Western discourse, weaken democratic institutions, and revive authoritarian ambitions.

The most striking act of moral inversion—and the ultimate expression of political hypocrisy—is the left’s inclusion of Islamists in its so-called “oppressed” coalition, despite Islamic extremism and its treatment of non-Muslims as well as its own women, and the destructive consequences in countries where Islam dominates.

By framing violent fundamentalists as mere “victims of Western imperialism,” the far-left transforms aggressors into martyrs. Illegal acts and extremist violence are increasingly sanitized as expressions of systemic grievance, while democratic governance, law enforcement, and sovereign allies are cast as the oppressors.

The atrocities of jihadist groups—including Hamas’s October 7, 2023 massacre of Israeli civilians—are sanitized as “responses” to colonialism, while the Iranian regime’s medieval brutality toward women and protesters is met with resounding silence.

The Assad regime slaughtered over 200,000 of its own citizens and abducted nearly 100,000 more, who vanished into detention. In Nigeria, tens of thousands of Christians have been murdered and thousands of churches destroyed by fundamentalist Muslim militants across the region. Hamas uses its own citizens as human shields and executes thousands of Gazan Palestinians and political rivals following cease-fires.

The Iranian regime has crushed six major uprisings since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, including the most recent uprising, which has cost as many as 40,000 lives, with tens of thousands imprisoned.

The left remains conspicuously silent. This selective outrage is deliberate. Maintaining the illusion that opposition to the West is virtuous, requires guarding barbarism behind the shield of moral relativism.

This accommodation is pervasive among American youth and growing within the political establishment, particularly within the Democratic Party, as support for Israel dramatically shrinks—even among some of its most prominent Jewish political leaders, many of whom conveniently use Netanyahu as the reason to rationalize playing to the emerging Democratic left.

In Illinois, former Mayor Rahm Emanuel—a possible presidential candidate—calls for ending unconditional military aid to Israel and demanding Israel pay for the military support the U.S. provides, blaming Netanyahu as he actually draws a moral equivalence between Israel’s and Hamas’s behavior.

Meanwhile, political consultant David Axelrod, Obama’s chief political strategist, praises New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s political skills and populist appeal and refers to Abdul El-Sayed as a “serious person,” while disparaging AIPAC as an instrument of Israeli political interference.

Most outrageous is Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, one of the Democratic Party’s biggest fundraisers, effectively comparing Trump and his domestic political supporters to Nazi Germany. Calling political opponents Nazis compares modern political arguments to one of history’s worst mass murders, hurting our understanding of real history and downplaying actual suffering.

The Nazi regime murdered six million Jews and millions of others. Using the label for routine policy disagreements makes the unique horror of the Holocaust seem common.

Adversaries exploit the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to sow discord and undermine Western institutions.

The so-called “Red-Green Alliance”—a convergence of anti-capitalist and Islamist movements—uses anti-Zionism to mask anti-Semitism, portraying Israel as an illegitimate colonial outpost. Demonizing Israel, a key symbol and ally of liberal democracy, becomes a proxy for attacking the West itself and a vehicle for mobilizing support, especially among the youth.

Anti-Semitism is unique in human history for its persistence, adaptability, and ability to reinvent itself over the millennia. In ancient times, its roots were theological; during the Middle Ages, economic restrictions fueled false narratives of “Jewish greed.” For centuries, it has been used by political actors to distract populations, rally support, and gain power—culminating in the Holocaust.

In the modern era, the far right condemns Jews as “globalist agitators” seeking to dilute national identity, while the radical left vilifies them as “capitalist oppressors.”

Anti-Semitism fits whatever fear dominates society, finding justification whether cloaked in the rhetoric of nationalism or anti-imperialism. Extremists from both the “accelerationist” far right and “deconstructionist” far left use growing hatred for Israel and the Jewish people as a proxy in their assault on liberal Western democracy.

The real-world consequences are stark, as anti-Semitism has surged globally. According to Anti-Defamation League (ADL) data, approximately 46% of the world’s adult population holds elevated anti-Semitic beliefs, a staggering jump from 26% in 2014.

Globally, this represents roughly 2.2 billion people who agree with harmful tropes. In the United States, the ADL recorded 9,354 incidents of harassment, vandalism, and assault in 2024—the highest number in its 46-year history, marking an 893% increase over the past decade. College campuses have seen an 84% rise in incidents in a single year, accounting for nearly one in five reported anti-Semitic acts. Surveys indicate 42% of Jewish college students have personally experienced anti-Semitism, leading 34% to hide their identity for safety.

Anti-Semitism is more than hatred directed at one group; it is a bellwether tool used by radical actors across the political spectrum to destabilize Western institutions. When it is excused, repackaged, or politicized, the damage extends far beyond the Jewish community. If we fail to confront it plainly—and without double standards that ignore atrocities committed by Islamists, left-wing revolutionaries, or right-wing extremists—we risk weakening the foundational freedoms that protect us all.

The public must recognize that the radical left and its Islamist allies are not movements of liberation, but of domination—one secular, one religious—whose respective long-term goals are fundamentally incompatible.

For now, both will use moral rhetoric and a distorted view of history to delegitimize Western liberal democracy while silencing critics regarding the atrocities committed in their names. Western institutions are imperfect, but they remain the walls protecting individual liberty from every new Trojan Horse disguised as compassion.

  1. Used to live in Orland Park. Now it seems to the east of LaGrange Road that the town is infested with Muslims and Islam.
The Quran goes out of it’s way to explain the slaughter of ALL infedels, including the likes of Fat Boy J.P. and the rest of his ilk.
Trojan Horse is an understatement. Look to western Europe and the slow disappearance of their society and culture. When they were allowed to build a mosque blocks from the World Trade Center, how ironic the city is now run by a radical Islamist. Never dawns on Mandami’s voters, that he’ll be coming for them as well.

  2. People of Jewish descent, like Emanuel, Pritzker, Schumer, and Axelrod, will hide behind their descent when it is good for them to do so-and call you an antisemite for bringing up the facts that they are siding with the unholy alliance Vallas describes. When the train cars come to pick you up, they will be leading you to them, but they won’t be getting on.

  3. Excellent description of this “Progressive” Alliance Paul. It is a derivative of the identity based instruction inculcated through US public school systems and universities that rose dramatically during the Obama presidency, and also a lack of proper instruction in history and economics. At the core, anti-semitism is the leading push against the Judeo-Christian basis for much of Western Civilization, particularly U.S. institutions by these groups, intent on the dismantling of U.S. foundations. Hitler and the real Nazis came after both Jews and any Christians that stood in their way! Pastor Deitrich Bonnhoeffer comes to mind, executed before the U.S. forces reached the Nazi concentration camp he was held at. Truly this is another human overflow of the spiritual warfare that really does exist for the minds and souls of humanity. It is incumbant on those Jews and Christians remaining true to their faith to stand in the way of this latest wave of anti-semitism and anti-Christian politics in the U.S. and awaken slumbering moderates and independents to the threat to freedom and liberty and counteract it with truth.

  4. Great analysis, but I still don’t understand how anyone, Jewish or not, can align themselves with democrats or DSA. It has to be more than their soul scorching hatred of Trump. The old Democratic Party is dead. It makes me think of the old line, “You make me laugh. I kill you last.”

What we are seeing in this country is a slow but sure ideological takeover that begins with school boards, curriculum directors, and university administrators. By the time the young people hit college, the indoctrination is just about complete. It sometimes feels that we are dangerously close to a tipping point, from which the US will have a very difficult time recovering.

Do we still have a “silent majority” of clear thinking citizens that can squash the revolution that is brewing under our noses?

  5. Paul,
As you conclude with “Western institutions are imperfect, but they remain the walls protecting individual liberty from every new Trojan Horse disguised as compassion.” As the leftist media allows the promotion of these communists daily, we must rely on those of us like you and Kasso to expose the hypocrisy….before we all are forced to succumb to their yoke! Well said Paul!

  6. Mr Vallas—
First off a huge thank you for subjecting yourself to the wood chipper politics that is Chicago and Illinois. Maybe something about the Greek culture? Because Greece was the cradle of civilization they fight endlessly to preserve democracy. Kasso too !
The folks like Pritzger figure their money will save them and perhaps they will just pay the Islamist tax on non Muslims. But the day will come when it is no longer “affordable” to even the mega rich and they will also be led to the cattle cars and extermination. The irony is the self loathing by the far left. Islam is 10x more rigid than Christianity. God said to love thy neighbor, Islam —— not so much. Kill the infidel! Unless we unite to preserve our freedom dressing up in a hijab will not be a cute “multicultural” experience, but everyday life for half the population. Fidelity to one woman will be a thing of the past, female children who are just into double digits in age will become “wives”. Where are their (liberal white female) brains?
Thanks again for the intelligent writing.

  7. Paul,

Great article and excellent writing on your part.

Hard to believe that the city voted Johnson in when there is no comparison between the two of you. One sows hatred, divide, and blame while you provided solutions and intelligence to resolving the challenges the city faces. I don’t know if you could save the city, but you would have done a much better job than the one currently sitting in the mayor’s office.

  8. Pritzker is garbage I agree. Rahm is a political opportunist, but he is correct in this case. Axelrod is also spot on about Mamdani.

October 7th 2023 was horrible, and we should all feel sadness at those whom were murdered and the hostages and their families. It is confounding to me how a nation with the military and surveillance capabilities in a country the size of NJ allowed such a thing to occur. Also, I have to question the lag time in response.

Anyone who asks these questions is branded an item, its, phone, etc. the Epstein class is covering this up. Epstein, the young women, the financial dealings, there is a great deal there. It seems there are Amalek in Judea and Samaria too. Some of them are American citizens as well. no one cries for them either.

This space is an echo chamber for propagandized boomers who seek only to have their world views verified and don’t want to see anything that contradicts said views.

The “left” has their echo chambers as well.

We must wake up from the partisanship, fake news, manipulation, and psychological ops that are going on.

    1. More of the same ol’ same ol’ from Maitano. Starts out agreeing with the topic and then veers to slamming conservatives. I do have one question about your usual drivel of the ” Epstein Files” . Obama and Biden were both Democrat presidents. Lawfare against Trump began with Obama spying on his campaign, starting the false allegations of “Russiagate” against Trump amongst other things. Sll dirty tricks. Corrupt Joe Biden amped it up by authorizing raids on Trumps home. Put people that worked for Trump in prison. Tried to put Trump in prison. Mr. Maitano can you answer why neither Obama nor Biden released ( or more likely ” leaked”) anything concerning Trump to the media to destroy his election or reelection? Were they protecting Trump? Answer these questions please. I can hardly wait for your perfect logic and reasoning to these questions.

  9. Also, Rahm is talking a lot of sense. Any president would be smart to have him in their cabinet or as an advisor. He’s one of the only Democrats talking sense right now. MTG is also talking a lot of sense. Massie has always been a true Libertarian.

We don’t need to do anything about all the money in politics as long as we agree with what they’re buying I guess. They tell you what to think, show you only some of the facts. they also lie.

Trump was right. the news is fake. But now, he’s joined the establishment in exchange for being able to cosplay as POTUS and enrich himself beyond belief.

Trump makes the Biden Crime Family look like the chumps they are.

    1. Someone should ask Rahm Emanuel if he thinks Jerusalem should be a “Sanctuary City”? He threatened to sue in order to keep that *special* designation in place in Chicago. Isn’t it surprising that nobody asks him about what a courageous front he put up during those heady days before Greg Abbott’s busses threw a wrench in the gears and called the Dem bluff. With a rumored presidential run looming you’d think Rahm would be reminding everyone how he SAVED the city from the scourge of enforcement of federal immigration laws, yes? You’d think someone would throw it out there as an example of how Rahm can properly “take care of bid-ness” when he has to. Right?
You, Robert, can be the one to get the message out there. Your unique style would be a perfect fit to get the word out that Rahm “fixed” the illegal immigrant problem 20 years ago.

  10. Thank you, Paul for this well written and completely honest and true assessment of this situation today. It is, as we say, on the money!
Also, looking for the return of John with a column soon – have missed his writing as well.

  11. Paul, this is all well said; unfortunately, it seems a large majority of American Jews still don’t grasp the destructiveness of left-wing extremist politics to the country in general–or now, to themselves in particular. But they’ve been taught all their lives to equate American Christians, conservatives, Republicans, with Nazism–when in fact they have never had any connection whatever to Nazism, which after all is just another kind of socialism with screwball racial theories added. It would be good to think that this state of affairs will finally start to change now–but especially given people like the Pritzkers, Soroses, etc., it is hard to be optimistic…

  12. 1. Islam is a phony religion. And weird.
    2. I’ve said this before: as a member of National Assoc. Of Medical Examiners I have been allowed to review the autopsies of those recovered on from Oct. 7th massacre butchery by these so called peace loving religious Muslims. I can’t mention what they did bcuz of its horrors. Israel had every right to strike back and more. But what about the innocent Palestinians. There is no such thing. Again, where were the complaints about innocent Kraut/Nazi citizens of Dresden, Berlin, Munich, etc. Crickets. And the fascist innocent Italians? Likewise, crickets. Was it becuz they were white?
    3. Finally, no more aide to any allies or foes until our own people and debt are taken care None, nada, no more. Our money for ourselves.
