Summer of Love 2.0: Democrats Unmask Themselves at Riots

In the collapsing big blue Democrat cities where the left has revealed its true nature, there are two lasting images from their riots:

That anarchist crouching at the curb in Los Angeles drawing the hammer from his backpack, breaking the curb into chunks for throwing at police and law enforcement officers upholding federal law to deport some of the 20 million illegal aliens allowed to cross the border into the U.S. by the corrupt Biden regime.

The last time I saw the hammer thing, it was Greek communists hammering away at the marble steps of the great hotels of Athens, to throw their deadly jagged missiles at cops, the deadly missiles flying at me and photographer Chris Walker, the rocks coming at us out of the clouds of tear gas overhead as we walked through Constitution Square, where my father fought the Communists decades before.

And back to the images from LA, I cannot unsee the illegal migrant lighting Molotov cocktails to throw at Los Angeles law enforcement officers.

All the while as left-wing corporate media (CNN, MSNBC, Chicago Tribune, etc.) the coms shop for the Democtrat Party, the media blaming the violence not at the angry Jacobins bent on destruction, but at President Trump for federalizing the California National Guard to protect federal immigration officers trying to do their duty by enforcing law already passed by Congress.

The riots in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, and other cities across the country have been set by Democrats and their financial backers to impede federal authorities from arresting and legally deporting some 20 million illegal aliens released into the U.S. through Democrat Open Borders policy. Some of the illegal aliens are dangerous criminal offenders, including the worst-of-the-worst murderers, rapists, and child-sex traffickers.

These are who the Democrats are defending with their riots.  Yet none of the images I’ve mentioned so far explain exactly what is happening. But this next one does: The rioters waving foreign flags as they destroy the Sanctuary Cities designed to protect illegal alien criminals.

Yes, Democrats are indeed funding the riots and destruction of our cities. And over the weekend, the Jacobins are planning more unrest with their so-called “No Kings Day,” a slogan hatched by some illiterate.

But I’m not a Jacobin destroying a blue city. And there is nothing quite like this image in the X post from “Libs of Tiktok.” It explains everything. It leaves no wiggle room for the double tongues to play. It is what it is. A declaration of where they and the Democrats stand, with those opposed to our immigration laws.

Leftist rioters embraced and defended by Democrats flying foreign flags, some were Palestinian flags but for this iconic photo of the LA riots 2025–they were using the foreign flag of choice, the flag of Mexico.

We’re now in a confused emotional state, with double tongues shouting to distract us sounding as they must have sounded years ago, when the Confederates attacked Ft. Sumter on April 12, 1861, in Charleston Harbor, South Carolina. The Democrats now reveal themselves as the neo-confederates defying American law.

Don’t let the left confuse you. As the National Review’s Rich Lowry writes:

“El Tricolor is the new Stars and Bars.

“Do you want to make your national flag a symbol of lawlessness and defiance of federal authority?

“Well, then, here’s a one-step plan: Prominently wave it at violent anti-ICE protests.

“The foremost image of the L.A. riots so far is a masked motorcyclist holding a Mexican flag as he does donuts around a burning car with smoke billowing in the air and police cars in the background — Mad Max for haters of ICE.”

California leftists gaslight the nation as they’ve done for many years. Consider failed Mayor Karen Bass and the Gov. Greasy Gavin, who couldn’t keep the LA emergency water reservoir filled before the LA fires destroyed the city.

Consider this good and useful piece in The Federalist, written by Breccan F. Thies, titled “Fidel Castro Acolyte Karen Bass Is No Stranger To Orchestrating Organized Chaos”

“With riots and looting destroying Los Angeles (again), it is important to remember that the city’s mayor, Karen Bass, reportedly led a radical Cuban communist cell that was part of a group responsible for radicalizing youth and organizing chaos.

“In the 1970s, when Bass was in her 20s, she led the Southern California cell of Cuban Venceremos Brigade — a Fidel Castro regime-linked organization and alleged terror group started to subvert the United States and proliferate communism. After working as a “brigadista,” Bass climb the ranks to become an “organizer,” visiting Cuba every six months.

“The rioting, looting, destruction, firebombing, assaults on federal officers, waving the Mexican flag, burning the American flag, and the like in her city — deemed by Democrats and their friends in the corporate media as “peaceful” — coupled with the failure of state and local law enforcement to protect the citizens of Los Angeles is far less surprising when put in the context of Bass’s reported violent revolutionary sympathies.

“She actually let the cat out of the bag on CNN recently, admitting that Los Angeles has a “rapid response network” of agitators, adding, “if they see ICE, they go out and they protest.”

Democrats are all about childish political theater as their great cities burn. Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, Tim Walz and Kathy Hochul raised their right hands as if they supported law-and-order and hoped theatrically they’d be arrested by Homeland Security.

“I have the highest duty to protect the people of my state, and indeed, if Tom Homan were to come to try to arrest us, me, rather, he can try,” Pritzker said. “I will stand in the way of Tom Homan going after people who don’t deserve to be frightened in their communities.”

He wants attention, we can hear him thinking: arrest me, please arrest me Tom Homan please. 

JB is a frightened fat boy who has never taken a stand. He just oozes where gravity takes him. JB Pritzker as president? I don’t think so.

The Democrats will applaud as they burn American flags on Flag Day, June 14. Americans don’t fly Old Glory to the right or to the left. We raise it straight, with pride. We salute her and love the republic she represents.

This is my Pride Flag.

Make no mistake.

You see the American flags burning? You see the leftists as they raise Mexican flags as they attack American cities?

You hear the hissing of the double-tongues like Pritzker, Newsom, Maxine Walters, and Hakeem Jeffries telling us that if we only stopped defending the American borders, and stop deporting the illegal invaders, then they would relent and stop the riots and attacks on law enforcement officers. Is that their understanding of common sense?

It sounds like a deal only fools and chumbolones would accept. Not American patriots.

And you see Chicago’s own failing Mayor Panic Attacks calling for more resistance to the legal ICE deportation raids.

Johnson said he’s “counting on all of Chicago to resist in this moment.”

“It’s a war on our culture. It’s a war on our democracy. It’s a war on our humanity. I am counting on all of Chicago to resist in this moment because, whatever particular vulnerable group is being targeted today, another group will be next,” the mayor said. “I know there is an effort to divide us in this moment, but none of us are immune from this disease.”

Disease? You mean the disease you carry? That’s communism. My father fought it once. I will fight it with my sons if the need arises.

A Chicago Police commander friend texted this to me: “How the HELL is the Superintendent supposed to keep the city from burning when the Mayor is CONDONING it????!!!???”

As I type this on the evening of Thursday, June 12, the Israeli Defense Forces have just attacked Iranian nuclear facilities  and took out senior Iranian military commanders. I can hear the wailing of the Israeli air raid sirens.

Israel could not allow a nuclear Iran with nuclear weapons. Iran had supported terrorist Hamas that slaughtered Israeli civilians, children, moms and dads. The Hamas terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, 2023 will not be forgotten not by Israelis, and not by Iran that paid for the October 7 slaughter. Grown ups in the world understood. Israel made her decision. Israel wanted to live.

And now every American has to make a decision as well if you want America to live.

Is this your country, a nation of laws?

Or is it theirs, where the Jacobins break the concrete to throw at police, where Democrats spit on our flag, and burn it and call themselves patriots by trying to confuse Americans and demand that we do not uphold immigration laws?

This is a battle for America’s sovereignty, for American law.

Where do you stand, with them or with the United States?

Time to decide, America. There is no safe middle ground now.

Back when President Trump was in his first term, I sent the White House an email urging them to use RICO against Soros and the rest of the left-wing crowd funding illegal domestic terrorism acts. There are now alleged reports that huge quantities if common bricks have been purchased by the Democratic party who cannot tell you what building projects they are for. let us use the law to indict the Democratic sources of this anarchy and violence.

  4. I know it is a separate issue, but I checked both the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times this am concerning the Israel airstrikes. The Chicago Tribune made no mention at all of this, and the Sun-Times had a small sidebar with the lead story on the anti-Trump rallies both yesterday and plans for Saturday. Nice job to bury the story.

  7. As the Summer of Love 2.0 begins I’m truly afraid for our country. I fervently pray those who vote in 2028 remember how the likes of Hakeem and the rest of the democrats gaslit us and how “mostly peaceful “ riots beset us again.

    I’m northbound on the Texas Eagle ( why are Amtrak’s blankets made in China?) to visit our two younger kids and their families. It’s been a couple years since my last visit and my romantic west side has further devolved. St. Catherine of Siena has “partnered” with St. Giles (along with old partner St. Lucy’s) and the Archdiocese is SELLING THE CHURCH! I’m calling Giles later this morning to see if there is one more Mass for me in the grandeur Gothic building with my Dad’s and uncle’s name alphabetical with all the other parishioners who served in WWII on the wall of the vestibule. My old man’s planted in Hillside now, with Uncle Dan and their wives with their parents, immigrants from Italy and Norway. I’ll visit them next week.

    This is all an indulgent, nostalgic aside….. Your regular respondents have said it all and you, too, savored Dylan in the morning….. terrific column and thanks so much for all the wonderful words so regularly sent.

    It IS time!! We MUST stop “tolerating” and “rehabilitating” seditious behavior whether on the streets or within the halls of “justice” and congress. This vermin, these cowardly masked outlaws must be eradicated, no?

    “Real” men (and women) protect our children and our wives and our spinster aunts and our handicapped. Where are the guys who will rip the masks from these cowards, disarm them of their hammers and concrete and lighters and bottles of gasoline….   17. Down here in Texas the local morning news outlet CW39, owned by ABC, just gave legal advice to those hoping to be arrested and where to find demonstrations for you to join. They did everything but give you helpful tips on what weapons to bring to the riot. Our great Governor Greg Abbott already has the National Guard on standby. During the St.Floyd Mostly Peaceful Riots, Houston Police locked up almost 300 once they started getting stupid. Most sat in jail all weekend. No hurry to process them. No overtime for processing them. A local TV reporter caught up to a couple of young men leaving the lockup and asked if they would participate in that nights planned festivities. HELL NO! WE’RE STAYING HOME TONIGHT.. they both replied, stating they sat there for three days. I guess having to take a dump in an open holding cell with forty other prisoners watching took the starch out of their drawers. In Chicago, the Mostly Peaceful Rioters were released immediately and promptly rejoined their fellow rioters. When there are no consequences for actions you get a result like that. But then again, that’s the result the Democrats want. They would rather see your city burn to make points with their partys agenda. They don’t care about their constituents. And they don’t care about you.

  19. I remember this vividly. Came back home to LA in 1970, might have been ’71 for the summer from grad school in the East. Sitting back watching the evening network news. Network news was all there was.

    A staged photo/film op showed three men on a bluff overlooking the southern border. They were not happy, they were angry.

    One was a U.S. Rep from CA, the other was a leader of the AFL-CIO, the third was, yes, the late great Cesar Chavez. All were vehemently opposed to illegal immigration from Mexico. They wanted the laws enforced. Easy to understand why. Many of the tweaks in current immigration law both preceeded and followed stands like these.

    It’s clear why they felt this way. It’s now clear why they currently don’t. Things have changed. Illegal immigration flipped California. It’s largely flipped Colorado and moving to flip Arizona. Texas is the next goal. It’s all political.

    This reality needs to be realized and be in the forefront of any dialogue.

  20. It’s like you said a few days ago John, they’ve had to activate the George Floyd protocol less than six months into Trump’s term. Why? Because their tactics otherwise have failed across the board. No matter what they have squawked about they have failed to turn the American people against Trump’s policies. Notice how we haven’t heard a peep about egg prices, tariffs, inflation, the stock market or the border for a while, have we. They have no winning platform. All they have is orange man bad. It’s not working and they are terrified about the mid terms.

    The riot protocol is designed to provoke a response. It matters not that the response is legal and appropriate, it allows them to point and shout, “Tyrannical militant dictator! Rounding up his own people!”, casually omitting the fact that terrorist citizens of other countries are not our people. Sadly, there are still those who suffer so from the blindness side effect of TDS, they buy into the BS. At least there are pathways for the truth to be brought to light as there is less censorship now than there was in 2020.

    It is imperative that this administration and we, the people do not cave and allow ourselves to be swayed by their wailing and gnashing of teeth. We must not give in to the empathy they attempt to illicit. It is toxic. We must keep going until they are defeated.

  21. What this all shows, is that after letting in millions enter the country illegally during the Biden regime, the Dems will do anything to slowdown/obstruct the deportation of any of them.

    1. That will probably stop dead if Iran activates any of its terrorist cells in the US in response to last night’s Israeli raids. Democrats will try to blame Trump for the Israeli raids, but the revelation that many of these cells came across the southern border will kill that talking point in a nanosecond.

The left wing democrat, Alex Padillia, the senior senator from the Peoples Republic of California tried political theater yesterday, by barging into Krisit Noem’s press conference, moving in a threatening manner toward the front of the room, and NOT identifying himself until security grabbed him. He was dressed like John Fetterman and was nothing more than a bully. This was all planned and Chuck “U” Shumer found the nearest microphone to begin the well orchestrated demands of hearings, resignations and out right rebellion (insurrection) against the Trump administration.
    The whole plan was blown off the front page by the heroic destruction of Iran’s nuclear and retaliatory weapons program.

    Then some leftist judge gave the National Guard back to Newsom and the Propaganda arm of the DNC start crowing about their court victory. They all started writing on X about Newsom’s victory. Only took a few hours for the Appellate Court to overturn the leftist judge and end the plans of General Newsom to command the Guard. His army is now smaller than that of the Vatican.

    Pritzker and his little army of three governors got their heads handed to them by questioning by the House committee. Pritzker is such a PUTZ. He was not prepared and was shown to be a fool when his own text was used to show he is a liar. He should be in a women’s bathroom as the cleaning attendant. That is the sum total of his capability as a leader.

  25. As I watch the news and the burning of our flag it brings back a memory of a poem that the good Sisters required us to memorize in grade school. It was a poem that John Greenleaf Whittier wrote about Barbara Frietchie and Gen. Jackson with his Confederate army marching through Frederich, Maryland. Rather than repeat the entire poem which is long I will pass on a phrase that Barbara shouted at Gen. Jackson “shoot if must this old gray head but spare your countrys flag”. The sacrifices that were made from the Revolutionary War till today by not only the military but civilians for our freedom and these people do not deserve to be in America. Tomorrow is Flag Day and everone should have their flag out.

How did we allow this to go this far? Were we all asleep at the switch, or just too lazy to go out and vote – as much of the populace in Chicago was, and elected an empty suit, Mayor Pannix.   27. Yes, John – best of the best columns you have written. My husband left Cuba at age 19 in 1962 – a miraculous occurrence in retrospect. He arrived in the US with one half bar of soap and half a tube of toothpaste. Clothes on his back, white shoes – which he wore during his first winter in Chicago. He had enough money for a Greyhound bus ticket to NY or Chicago. He had a job waiting at So.Shore Hospital. He rode that bus. He got a room in the home of a retired school teacher- he could keep a quart of milk in her refrigerator. At night, he waited banquet tables at the Sheraton Chicago. He worked hard. He rode buses- no car. He was lonely. No family. No friends. What did he have? Freedom. Love of the United States of America. He DESPISED what communism did and continues to do in Cuba. Zero tolerance for the system that imposes suppression, suffering and deprivation on the Cuban people. Victor died in a car accident in September 2024. The flag he was given the day he became a US citizen in 1976 flies in front of our home every day. As we exited the church after his funeral Mass, we all sang America the Beautiful with tears of gratitude for this wonderful man , for the country we love, and heartfelt prayers for the defeat of communism.

    3. Thanks for summing it up perfectly Nancy. I have a niece that loved the Korean culture so much she dreamed of going there to live. She taught herself the language, got a college degree and a plane ticket to go there and fulfill her dream. She soon felt discrimination for taking a job that should have went to a Korean. Work habits in Asian cultures do not mimic American work habits. Sixty hour workweeks are not unusual with no pay for overtime or union representation. The Koreans knew that she scorned at what most of them could only dream of. American Citizenship. She was throwing away what they desired. She lasted about a year before she returned…I’m happy your husband died a Free Man in a country he loved and cherished. God bless.

  29. The laws are the rules of the game and are to be enforced. If the majority in our democracy want to change them, then the elected legislative officials in DC could actually do something meaningful like legislate new immigration laws (but they won’t because they prioritize continuous campaigning and defer their responsibilities to the judicial & executive branches). Until this happens, laws are there to be enforced. That’s responsible democracy. Love the US democracy in action or, if you fly another country’s flag, leave it.

    1. I think you’re missing the point. For years they told us that they could solve the illegal immigration problem with new legislation, but their kind of legislation wouldn’t have solved the problem, it would’ve codified open borders. They knew this and they knew they stood no chance of making it happen, so they decided to ignore the laws on the books, causing a crisis that they thought they could ride to an open border. If they got a majority in Congress and Harris in the White House, they might’ve pulled it off too, another reason they hate Trump. Now all they’re left with is stopping ICE agents from getting rid of Biden’s illegals for long enough that they can participate in the Great Voter Fraud of 2028, and THAT’S why they’re fighting to give gangbangers, criminals and garden variety illegals the kind of due process that would take several hundred years of trials to get rid of 20,000,000 people.

    1. This *is* Illinois, after all. Isn’t that simply a matter of time for nearly *any* governor?
    2. If he’s serious about getting himself arrested, he really should arrange it so that it happens while he’s standing in a schoolhouse door. I’ve seen a couple of pieces laying out the similarities between Newsom/Pritzker/et al and George Wallace…

  34. It should be interesting to see what happens tomorrow at the “No Kings Day” demonstration. This has been in the planning stages long before last week’s mob showed up in L.A. I can imagine angry female liberals trying to peacefully demonstrate against bad orange man, only to possibly have the anarchists show up and start throwing rocks and molotov cocktails. Should be highly entertaining! As for me, I’ll hang my flag for flag day and wish our President a happy birthday.

    There is no threat of a consequence. Odds of getting arrested not very big. I’ll bet the “threat” of serious bodily harm would act as a deterrent to many of aholes.
    Sanctuary city budgets are being drained by these moronic policies and the mayors and governors know this a don’t care. Just raise taxes but Panic Man’s well has run dry. Cut off more federal subsidies to these cities and states.
    If you weren’t around in the 60s and 70s you won’t know. The Cook County Sheriff gave a tag em and bag em order if a cop saw someone run out of a store carrying merchandise.
    Any sane young liberal wasn’t stupid enough to get seriously injured by attending one of the riots. They sat at home and nodded their heads in agreement, not participating.

  42. As usual, I get the last word. Tomorrow, June 14, is Flag Day. It’s also the 250th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. Army. And, as the idiot liberals have so loudly bleated, it’s also Trump’s birthday.
    I plan to hang my flag on the front porch, head over to the park to watch flags being retired with proper honor, watch some baseball and in the evening watch the Army’s birthday parade.

    The liberals have condemned that parade, saying it’s a tribute to Trump’s ego and it reminds them of totalitarian countries like China, Russia, Nazi Germany and North Korea. I say they’re full of crap. It’s a tribute to an army whose members have been making the ultimate sacrifice for 250 years in order for those idiots to have the right to spout their nonsense. Too bad they don’t live in one of the aforementioned countries. Then they would see how long they would last criticizing their leaders or military.
